I bought into VS1 because I wanted to dig my teeth into the source code. I'm super glad Keen are still not obfuscating their assemblies. The code looks so much cleaner than anything I've ever seen in SE1. I'm actually impressed.
For now I'm just fiddling around with engine flags to see what they do, getting familiar with the new code. I probably won't get much more into SE2 until we get modding, at which point I'll, well, start making mods for whatever I can think of. But I'm really waiting for survival before I actually start playing.
There's a ton of survival stuff already in the files. Everything has recipes, and there's files for conveyors too. It's just all disabled. Water is in too, as I'm sure you've already seen on RUclips and Reddit. I'm actually surprised at how much they shipped in a disabled state. They know we dig through everything with a fine comb, so I guess they wanted us to find it. Pretty cool of them.
I supported SE1 in alpha and have 500+ total hours in it. I bought SE2 to experiment with and just support the developers. while we cant do much now, I have a feeling in a years time we at least will have survival and more of the basic blocks like conveyors and subgrids with rotors and pistons.
Really curious to see what modders will do with this game
SE2 start like how SE1 started out, i remeber than i got SE1 very on in its development which was basicly what SE 2 is right now.
@@ineverexist666 It does feel very much like SE1 start
There is a nonfunctioning Gattling gun in the game I think you failed to mention.
Would be funny as hell if they made the paint gun work on other players. Run around painting other players.
There's a very good reason why they released it this early, using your own words:
They need to make sure the bones aren't broken first. It's much easier to fix stuff in /this/ stage than anything else later if it breaks /now/.
One thing I REALLY wish they would change moving into SE2, is conveyor ports. Make them fking recolorable or add different types that arent a massive eyesore. 😂 Conveyor caps are cool and all but, I'd like to utilize cool conveyor hatches and cargo catches in the design of my ships without being forced to see an ugly yellow square or connector brim breaking up the lines or color schemes of mah shiiiiips. 😂😢
you can cover them using small 25cm blocks
Six months wouldn't be enough time for survival. They will be more than the next six months getting the next 3 vertical slices out, and they all deal with game mechanics, ingame workshop and vrage tools. Those things do have to be in and working before anything like survival.
edit: Xocliw said in today's (31/01/25) twitch stream that VS2 will not be sooner than 6 months. So survival is that much further out. It's clear that they're really paying attention to current player comments and engagement, so I think that's the best reason for them releasing the game as early as they have.
Hell ive already caused a ton of crashes and allowed it all to be sent in lmao so Atleast we are finding all the bugs early
Maybe you could just Star experimenting with making your own gribble blueprints that you would most likely use in all if not most of your builds. Could make for a decent live stream!
Hi, you said that you went to Prague for the lunch presentation, where are you from ? Edit: Oh, Canada that's quite far.
Being able to build under slanted windows now will be huge.
Mini Grid, Small Grid, Large Grid
I'm a big fan of the first Space Engineers so I pre ordered the sequal to support its development but I have no plans on playing it until there is more functionality. I know they don't need my money but I wanted to support development. I may change my mind if I noticed that they are more open to suggentions and feedback.
I would love if pilot could switch cockpits if connected by a big conveyor :). Had that as feature request but there were so many on that keen page, that noone could ever notice.
Only tangentially related, but Hypertubes would be pretty damn neat for bigger ships and stations. Like the ones in Satisfactory.
OOOO a thought. With a 300mps speed limit, will there be a jump drive?
Can you just make your own transition block? I might try. Also, theres enough for me to start building main engineering, atleast the physical room
I think the sooner we move from large/small 2x2x2 to 5m x 5m x 5m the better.
my biggest griev so far is that there are only 4 shapes of the detaling blocks yet :D and stil getting used symmetry getting disabled regularly and not always copies and places blocks
I hope they give us character customization options in the future. That weirdly beardless face is freaking me out.
he is angry
so its basically one 25cm grid system with different sized blocks?
With the paint gun, is it possible to paint just one side of a block?
Negative
No. But with unified grid system you can just have two planes of smaller blocks back-to-back and paint them different colours.
I like it but there aint much to do unless you wanna pre-build some BP's but I support Keen so I bought it but will play other games till 2.0 Survival mode comes out as I can't get enough of that digging and building.
😃
This build of the game is not ready for prime time in my opinion. I guess they rushed it out for funding purposes. I supported but will not be playing i suspect for quite some time due to lack of content ( no survival, key blocks missing, etc…). Don’t know why it takes them so long to release content, but I’m not a dev. I hope by this time next year there will be a full game release with some decent initial content and tools to play with.
Large, small and tiny blocks... lmao what happened to medium? 😂😂
There is no dana, only grid
I feel like if they dont port some of the stuff from se1 fairly quickly the game is gonna die
My personal opinion is that if they had at least released creative with all of the basic blocks in it whether they were functional yet or not, so it would at least be possible to actually build functional ships that would be survival ready once survival launched, it would have been enough to hold me over...As it is there just aren't enough blocks in SE2 to make creative worth while because you can't run conveyor lines in your builds because conveyors don't exist, you can't place batteries because they aren't in the game yet, you can't place gas storage because tanks aren't in the game yet...For me personally I always build using conveyors as a skeleton and then bury them within the hull of the ship so they are unseen but the whole ship is piped up, the only way to do that on SE2 is to use cargo containers for conveyor lines and then at some point in the future cut open your ship and gut it to replace all of the internals with the basics then it would have been a much better experience, I lost interest within about 10 minutes and went back to SE1 because there just wasn't anything worth building with even though I love the new unified grid system
I talked about this for some time, that this will only be a skeletal "game" or more so a demo, as SE1 was at the beginning, but... I was hated for that. So, if Keen dont put some more blocks to build something functional, then the hype will greatly diminish in time, and in fact they will shoot themselves in the foot, since for now, except beautiful graphic, we didn't get anything at all not even basics. Sigh.
Steam has hurt all early access games. After picking up KSP2 and playing it for a grand total of 18 minutes and getting denied a refund when the developer dropped it, I will never purchase an early access title again. The fact that Steam still has it for sale when no one is working on it's development should be illegal.
There is a legion of overinvested fanboys eagar to be burned by KEEN. Pattern recognition is not strong with them.
Greeble space program at the moment comes across as a SE engine upgrade with not much more, the first game relied very heavily on players and modders working out for themselves the gameplay part. Lots of stuff for builders for sure but a game needs more than just a block catalogue if they're going to coax people over without simply killing support for the first game.
This is too barebone.
They have all the knowledge from se1.
So this would have been a more positive go marked strategi.
1 Put in core se1. In vrage3
Features and blocks..
Planets resources etc.
2 Implement se2 over slices.
Water. Clima new block features demolition etc.
New block system etc.
So they should have waited
I guess it will take 5 years before se2 is on level with se1.
Alot of block dlc.
It feels like se1 allover again.
Which is actually a setback.
And not right for a much bigger Studio, with better engine.
I feel there is no one calling them out.
I coudn't agree more with you this is a bad release a tech demo to try to make money out of it. They haven't learned from the feedback of making a content rich game so you have something to do not just a lego building game that is empty.
or it should of been released as a free demo for feedback
so what they released is not the game, it's just a shell. you can place items and do nothing with them. did they run out of money to do this? There is not a single gameplay element in this release!
It's a vertical slice of the overall game. They have more completed than what is currently available to play. Part of testing an alpha and giving feedback is keeping the gameplay focused for the players. This isn't meant to have gameplay features. SOOOOON™
Also, SOME blocks aren't functional. Some are. You can build the hull of a ship, give it thrusters, gyros, cockpit etc, and fly around. That's about the extent of it right now. And of course, play around with the new building system which is actually 100 times better than SE1s! Testing the improved physics has been interesting as well... lol
But this was predictable, since SE 1 was in similar sate when released and I warned that SE 2 will be in this state when launched or even worse (aka it will be just a teaser not a game even in alpha state), but I was hated for that.... Anyway, if Keen dont add some functional blocks and planets soon, then hype will diminish greatly over time and in fact they will shoot themselves in the foot.
Sigh, I understand, that this is an Alpha, but... give us at lest 50% blocks from SE1 and at lest 3 planets with moons, but... what we got? As I said, a teaser, not a game!
It's 2024 all over again
@@heightenedsensesproduction542 What a load of crap are you saying here.... Why the hack early alpha is begin sold at a full price (50 euro!)? If so, then give us a FUNCTIONAL alpha game, and not a teaser, who will be a teaser for who know how long. So, no, no matter how fanatical you are, you simply cant dany reality, that a teaser is begin sold as a full and working game in an Alpha state!
