Those sub-floor timbers appear to be in excellent condition. It looks very dry. I would have left the floor as was. And you didn’t find any hidden treasure 😮 Great work, but I bet your muscles are very achy now!
Great progess with the floor renovation/insulation. If you haven't, a close inspection for possible rot in the syll would be a good idea now that you're already "down there".
The location of your cabin is very, very beautiful! I'm living in Sydney, Australia, where it's been 35 degrees celsius every day for weeks with almost 100% humidity. I love seeing the snow covered trees all around you. Love your videos 🙂
I visited Australia for the first time in 2019 when you had the summer heat wave. It was 43,5 C outside and the bushfire smoke had filled the air from Sydney to Canberra. It was quite a dramatic visit but we also loved it. Quite a contrast though. Here in the northern parts of Sweden we’ve had -43C this past week. It’s crazy to think people can live in an almost 90C temperature range and still get on with life. 😂
Who needs a gym? With all this physical labour you’ll be as fit as a butcher’s dog by next Christmas. Love your videos and thank you for your hard work and sharing your progress in 2023.
I am imagining all the things you can do with those rocks. I live in the "high desert" of the US Southwest area. We do great things with garden design using rocks such as those you excavated. I've banked along the driveway, built small walls in the veggie garden, and a fire-it area. Enjoy.
Hello Marcus and Erik! Good to see a friend help. Is Erik a childhood friend? We see those rocks become a wall somewhere on your property! Marcus, protect your body from injury while you work (says us two old people 😊❤) We enjoy your vlogs so much. Beautiful videography. With love from Phoenix 🏜️❤
Hey Marcus. Great to see the hard work and progress. I am coming to visit Solleftea in Feb and am so excited to be eventually coming. Stay warm as I hear it is extra cold at the moment and keep going. Regards Rob
Nice work man. I started renovating the living room of our 1934 home last August, so I am going through a lot of steps that are somewhat similar. Good luck and keep at it. This is going to be great!
Thanks for the great video. And wow, what hard work. Even in the cold and snow. Respect! I would probably have done the same with the heavy stone (apart from the fact that I wouldn't have been able to lift it 😅). According to the motto, as long as it moves, I can do it on my own. 😄
What a job dealing with digging out the rocky ground, I know how difficult it can get. I'm amazed by just how much rocks there were, and the size of some of them. Maybe they cleared that from around the house to make a garden when the second house was built.
This is so interesting and golden material, since I am dreaming to do something similar and have always wondered what the traditional wooden houses have hidden inside. Love from Finland :) Any tips where to learn to renovate old buildings? I don't have any knowledgeable close family or friends to ask help from.
Looks like you'll need a plumber now,.... when shell I com? 😂 ... Didn't get how you are planning to do the "underfloor"... ... thanks for sharing! Werner
Will you have a septich tank, ore is there a "main", .... good that you can ask youre father! ... and maybe sometimes he'll be allowed to help... 😂 ... I'm hoping to find somethink simmilar and from Videos like your's I can See what I'm getting into,... without much woodworking expereance on my side. Tx.
Ok, ... Well I'll have a couple of questions for youre dad then,... plumbing, heating, air con. ... is that basicly one job in sweden? How do you become a certivied plumper, heating technischen? .... school, aprenticeship?... Wouled be nice to have a conversation with youre dad about that! Tx Werner
Just an idea but it would be interesting for someone in the future to find a “time capsule” from you buried under the kitchen floor, when they go through the same process you are going through 🤔(well of course not the same process as you will have made it much better!!!!!!)
Great idea. As a carpenter, renovating old buildings in Copenhagen, it's always interesting to find little messages and regards, from our earlier colleges. A great tradition.
I'm from Australia so I don't know what it's like to live in such a cold country so forgive my question...but wasn't the floor insulated very well with the saw dust.,..it must have been good enough for all those years ? Or is the insulation your going to put in so much better....alot of hard work ...how much better will it be
It’s not as good as modern insulation but some might say differently. If you have earth all the way to the beams and the subfloor, it will make the wood damp and it will slowly rot. You can tell by the state of the old subfloor. I also wanted to check the state of the logs in the wall and to do that you need to dig everything out
Bra jobbat! Själv har jag och min fru bor i ett liknande hus ifrån sent 18 tal. Vi hade inte denna fördel att renovera innan inflyttning så vi fick isolera golven ovanpå det befintliga golv på nedervåningen.
Well done on the hard work. I had thought that sawdust was used as a natural insulation. Will you be replacing the sawdust with a different insulation?
I think without those props you might have lost more of the roof, the snow is really piling up.👍 Great progress again, loads of hard work, but will be worth the effort.👍
We will, at some point, do almost the exact opposite of what you are doing! We will be filling in our foundation with a modern version of what your floor used to be filled with 😅
Aren't you afraid the stone piers that your house is resting on could now shift and collapse after you have dug out a lot of the sand and stone that were around those piers?
Why the need to dig out all the insulating earth, then add a subfloor and then insulation? Is it new building regs? Why not just add the insulation directly under the current floor?
I’m really enjoying this series 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏼🤘🏿💋❤️
You gotta love friends that help you shovel 😄
So much hard work, amazing discipline. Great for mind and body.
Those sub-floor timbers appear to be in excellent condition. It looks very dry. I would have left the floor as was.
And you didn’t find any hidden treasure 😮
Great work, but I bet your muscles are very achy now!
Marcus, I’m glad that you had some help with the digging.
I am very impressed with your hard work. Great job you're doing!
Just love watching the progress. And seeing all the lovely snow!!
Your confidence has grown since the early episodes. Well done 👏👏. Keep on going!
Looking forward to see how the new subfloor will be installed.
Lots of hard work but it will be worth it when you have a warm kitchen.
Yes exactly!
That's a lot of backbreaking work. Well done. Please be careful with yourself. ❤
Thank you, I will!
Great progess with the floor renovation/insulation. If you haven't, a close inspection for possible rot in the syll would be a good idea now that you're already "down there".
Those shavings or sand would be good mulch in flower beds.
Yay! Love your videos 🤍

Wow. What a job working with all those rocks! It'll be worth it in the end. Great work!
I have that task on my to do list as well. A messy snd time consuming job for sure. 😅
Bra jobbat 😀🇸🇪👍🏻

Interesting video as always. Great going with that hard and back breaking work. It will feel really good when it’s done. Thanks for sharing.
Well done on your hard work!
Thank you!

💕It looks like the house was built onto rocks to help keep it off of the earth💕

My dad’s a plumber so I’m all sorted haha. You’ll see the subfloor in the next video

På ett sätt är det skönt att det bara är ett skal egentligen. För då kan man själv bestämma hur man vill göra med allt :)
Wow❤
Can I ask how you store the Cough drops? Are they sticky? Thanks, I love your content and your channel.
Well done on the hard work. I had thought that sawdust was used as a natural insulation. Will you be replacing the sawdust with a different insulation?
Thanks! That's the plan. Gonna add insulation made of cellulose. Old newspapers
Turn your wheel barrow around facing out before you fill it.
Hej Marcus. Vi nyder meget at følge dig.
I think without those props you might have lost more of the roof, the snow is really piling up.👍 Great progress again, loads of hard work, but will be worth the effort.👍
Yeah I think so too

Not the nicest job but the reward is: warm Feet!😀
Being from South Africa I have no idea how you deal with the snow, it looks like a lot of extra effort to get around.
👍
Suggestion : Laura Kampf videos on natural insulation.

Why the need to dig out all the insulating earth, then add a subfloor and then insulation? Is it new building regs?
Why not just add the insulation directly under the current floor?
You want an air gap in between the subfloor and the ground. It helps dry out anything that might get damp and it helps keep the floor warmer
Can you enable the translation of subtitles into different languages please ? Thank you.
You're going to hurt your back.
