True brotherhood in the Fighting Arts
Congratulations to both masters, they have provide the best explanations about creating attributes. Katas or forms (from any martial arts) like carenza and drills are meant to create attributes, attributes must be taken to sparring in order to learn how to apply them in combat. Very good video and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The true spirit of Martial arts is shown here.
Thank you for the great video.
I am a karate practioner but i can say that karate is a basic martial arts and then FMA kali is the advance martial arts.
I'm happy that this guy is so open
Man I gotta say Im really digging the foot work.
Thank you for this video, GN. I loved how calming and peaceful it is at the beginning. And loved how you filmed this type of videos. Kudos to you!
And for the two artforms, I'm very happy to see the exchange of knowledge and both masters sharing with each other.
Thank you.
This was REALLY neat to see. I was a 14 year Karate student and am just starting the road of Kali. I think it was empowering to see each participant "Out of their element." To watch experts in their respected discipline learn something foreign; it's encouraging for students who may feel 'weird' learning something new for the first time. Many disciplines merge now days and are expressed in the training of a participant I feel a whole new sense of optimism from this video as i look forward to the fun and play to be had merging traditional Karate and Kali. ***Side Note*** Karate flow drill "KAKIE" might be something for FMA practicioners to look into for drawing comparisons. Deep respect to all...
Awesome! Thank you for this!
This is f'ng fabulous! Each is a leader in their field and the respect, humility and open mindedness displayed should inspire us all. I will probably watch this like a million times!
I studied shorin ryu karatedo in the philippines from 11 years old to 29 years old.i have a blackbelt...i remember that regularly our dojo would invite on a regular basis arnis/kali instructors as weapons art training...our instructos always told us, unlike in okinawa we did not have kobudo experts, we had arnis experts.so many karatekas in the philippines, especially those of shorin ryu lineage know doce pares arnis of cacoy cañete and modern arnis of remy presas...many oldtimers taught combat judo which they learned from the philippine armed forces.philippine karate has always been eclectic
Machida has really helped to bring Karate into the modern world and I would like to thank him as a karateka. I'm up in the Bay Area and would love to drop in for a class sometime.
The Machida Academy is closed right now, like everything else. Chinzo is teaching live free fundamental classes on Instagram Mon, Wed, Fri at 6.30pm. The classes are also uploaded here on RUclips.
@@mickeman3967 Thank you. Would love to attend some online classes and drop in when they are reopen.
You did it right Mr. Machida. You got the flow of the stick Striking. The tap of Kali after the strike is a push to delay the opponent like in Karate if you play side to side position in Kata. The striking of kali is like a karate its always comes from below with the hip rotation throwing like the HARA TECHNIQUE ..Both instructors are Amazing.
First off once again great video... I wish more instructors were willing to trade knowledge these days too many instructors have grown complacent in their own systems also have extreme attitudes that there is nothing better than what they do... Growing up in the martial arts since the age of 3 I called my teacher dad ... he would take me to many schools meet many instructors he always told me remember one thing you're never going to be that good... I asked him dad what do you mean by that he said to me my son there was always someone out there with more knowledge be that someone learn all that you can I'm going to share a quick story with you my Dad's belt was so matted Staind and falling apart I was no more than 12 years old and I wanted to buy my dad a new belt he sat me down and said to me fine buy me a white belt and I looked at him kind of strange he said to me look very closely at my belt what do you see again the belt was so tattered but the funny thing was the inside of the belt was white coming through I looked at him and smiled and I told him what I saw he smiled back at me and said now you're truly understanding the meaning of the martial arts... Sorry for the long when did story I thought you would enjoy it again thank you for this great video I hope to be seen more...OUS!
The kime is incredible, Machida's strikes made air pop!
Mabuhay! From Philippines oss
You guys remind me of why i started training
Thare you go giveing me chills brotha
Thank you for te great great video! Empty Cup!
Why are you drawing a distinction between Kali and Arnis and Escrima at around the 7:30 mark? Are they not all the same art? They have similar etymological backgrounds and come from the same place. Is this just PTK terminology?
Nice, but too limited. I would have liked to see a comparison of applications from both arts, and a look at their similarities and differences. I loved the shadow boxing at the end, though. Tuhon Jared has amazing flow and power.
Nice school 👍
Love this!!!
I enjoy kata. It is moving meditation.
mostly Taikyoku with main difference being the hand placement up high to protect the head. Makes sense. Traditional Karate keeps hands too low.
Very cool.
This is awesome! thanks GN!, is he the brother of Lyoto?
on a side note, it's interesting how each martial art reflects characteristics of the original societies they came from
Nice.
I earned black belts in Tracy Kenpo, American Kenpo and my variation of AKJ-American Kenpo. Own school for 20 years and before, taught for Tracy. In AKJ first thing I did was throw the forms (katas) in the trash can. Maybe they help in other arts, but in a self-defense art like AKJ Kenpo, they serve no use. In Kenpo, each tech is like a mini form anyway.
Sifu
i practice both
Cuál es el nombre de la kata que mostraron ?
Why is the kata changed?
Karate shorts? Lol but I cannot argue with a Machida.
California...
chopping w/ tip of machete, then rolling-slashes when closer, same wpn
actually it´s the same .... , take a look at Quol de Mama and the start of Pinan nidan/Heian shodan
The closest equivalent of Kata in FMA are the Anyo (forms) of Modern Arnis.
@Zhan Zhen actually, the ne "Kali" was ahistorical and was only used beginning in the 1970s by Floro Villabrille and Dan Innosanto. The more apt term is "kalis," which means "sword."
The possible root origin of the word kali is the fighting art of Kalaripayattu of Kerala, India. As is known, it is the oldest recorded discipline of fighting arts. It involves the use of weaponry, empty hand, wrestling, all the way to the treatment of injuries attained from the practice of the fighting arts. Given the sphere of influence of ancient Indian civilization, this could be nearer to the truth. Afterall, before the arrival of Islam and Christianity, aside from the pagan beliefs, the thallasocratic civilizations of south east Asia were highly Hindu-Buddhists in nature.

It's like every single martial arts channel on youtube uses this exact same music whenever they are trying to be super profound and emotional. lol music is distracting honestly. Would be better with no music.
When demoing the power swinging mechanics for FMA, Jared is cheating himself a little in the video. I'm not sure if it's the floors or his form but he stops pivoting at the hips. If he lightened a hair onto the balls of his feet he'd gain a little more power but more importantly it's better for his knee.
I understand karate has to evolve. 😪still sad
Now Pilipino is no interest in kali they all interested now in the gun
The two oldest, and still relevant, forms of unarmed combat, wrestling and boxing don't use kata. Just saying.
"Flow drills," semantics.
Boxing uses shadow boxing which is a simple form of katas.
