Uses unarmored fighting style for more grappling damage and animalistic behavior and powering up regular bite.
I ran a one shot, where one of the PCs played the UA version. During combat they raged and grew a tail. I made sure to describe this for those behind the barbarian. I will just recommend a butt flap for those who select this subclass. Otherwise it might get a little breezy....
You guys have some dedication I thought you guys uploaded on Tuesday because today was Thanksgiving, but hey a pleasant surprise I really like this barbarian it’s not my absolute favorite but it’s definitely a top contender Happy Thanksgiving guys
I'm making one that's a lizardfolk beast barbarian multi class with fighter. Make it four levels in beast barbarian than the rest in fighter champion. Get the unarmed fighting stye to power up bite. Max out constitution for the unarmored defense. Spent the rest of the ability scores on the feats, tavern brawler, slasher, crusher and piercer to make full use of have the 3 damaging types at once. This guy's story would be somekind of biological abomination that was considered a failure because of his latent powers not being known. When he beast rages he becomes a monsterous creature when raging. Grows a second head that's only a jagged tooth snout for the jaw version.
Just started a Harengon beast barbarian. And hell yeah! This is fun! Jump an extra long distance and then rip 'em apart. That's what I call a killer rabbit.
Great video as always guys, keep up the good work. I have a technical question, have you thought about getting a couple of lav mics? It might improve the audio quality.
That recording session (last 3 videos) our microphone wasn’t being detected. Didn’t find out until editing unfortunately. Trying to fix the issue for future. Thanks for watching!
Honestly, this book is a dream come true for all us players and DM. So much content with this book, I can't wait to have it in my hands. Also happy Thanksgiving guys, and happy holiday to everyone!??
People forget that you can use a shield with each natural weapon. Three claw attacks AND a shield? The shield master feat comes in handy because barbarians will have advantage on STR checks to knock people down and you can make it tour bonus action each round.
I got some good rolls at the start of our low magic Grim/Dark campaign. 18,15,17,12,7,6. I'm going Wildhunt Shifter (with the custom origin swapping the +2 to strength and the +1 to Int). I'm taking three levels of this and then going Order of the Lycan Bloodhunter for the rest. Not the most optimal (won't get extra attack until level 8), but I get to do the "This isn't even my final form" thing with my bonus actions three turns in a row (rage transformation, Order of the Lycan transformation, Shifter transformation). All the transformations are great, even the shifter, because the "opponent's within 30 feet of you cant gain advantage on attacks against you" is INSANE with Reckless Attack. One annoying thing about the Path of the Beast claws is that they are weirdly classified as "Natural weapon simple melee weapons", rather than unarmed attacks, which means you cant attack as a bonus action, and they also don't work with things that buff your unarmed attacks (like monk or Order of the lycan). Whatever, I can deal with it if my DM isn't happy with them being homebrewed to "unarmed attacks".
WereShark Beast Barbarian named Bruce (from Finding Nemo). Uses the teeth & turns blue with webbed fingers with solid black eyes when he rages. And no, he never knew his father.
In the inheritance cycle there are elves who modify their bodies with magic, either for aesthetic or functional reasons (or both). It would be cool to flavor this subclass in a similar way so it's completely voluntary and you still have some bestial elements in your regular form. Maybe you have fur or feathers instead of clothing, maybe you have animal-like eyes,... . Raging is then probably not anger based but just your way of "drawing your weapons" - except you grow them from your body.
Technically yes, PB is normally better. For barbarian though, if you hit level 20 you can get a +7 to con(which most barbarian things seem to have scaled off off) so con mod in a long campaign would be better, PB in a campaign not hitting 20 is better
This is an S subclass for sure. This subclass honestly should have been one of the base ones in the Players Handbook. Barbarians live isolated in the wilds and have a strong connection to nature and animals.
True, but there's enough room for roleplay so you don't have to be a savage out in the wilds. Maybe you were a noble who was visited in the night by a spiteful fey who thought it would be funny to curse you, or maybe your grandpa was a famous druid who passed down some of his shapeshifting powers to you that showed themselves while you were performing a play, then you became a circus freak.
Claws aren't light weapons. And while in theory Dual Wielding feat should allow to do it, I can easily see DM not allowing it and I personally would totally agree with them.
@@antongrigoryev6381 Natural weapons should definitely be light weapons in this case. It’s 1d6/1d6, no different than dual wielding hand axes. Ugh I just hate how anything that makes logical sense for 2WF is nerfed.
@@angrydwarfofdoom You already get additional attack for them being d6, and it is much better than basic dual wielding. It is something that you can't do with handaxes. Getting *fourth* attack for nothing would be too OP. If I was DM, I would consider Claws' extra attack as if you're *already* dual-wielding, so no further bonuses.
@@antongrigoryev6381 See, to me, the lower damage, lack of access to +1 and higher magical items, no ability to use GWM fear, etc, is the trade off. Even a two weapon fighter would be able access magical weapons. Four attacks I think makes the difference less painful. No PAM or GWM for this build. Shield Master does fit nicely though I don’t think I that’s the same trade off. Of course, RAW, you can use a shield and get three attacks, so even that is pretty good. In that case you can have high AC for a barbarian, being a bit more tanky. 19 AC with half plate. And if you get magi shields or armor? Might have a barbarian with 23ish AC who takes half damage form attacks. Maybe that is what they’re trying to do.
@@angrydwarfofdoom Say that to monk. See - you began to justify your incorrect reading of rules by what *you* would want. That doesn't work like that. "It is weak otherwise" is not a justification for your wantings. "What they're trying to do" is to make a flavorful subclass, not to care about all the min-maxing you would want. Oh, and don't forget that you add Rage damage to *every* attack. That's the reason Barbarians don't get third and more attacks. Having four attacks at *fifth* lvl is too much.
Apparently yes, but you would lose all three if your rage ends (until you get persistent rage that is). twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/984853901743505408?lang=en
Another option instead of shifter is human variant fighter initiate feat unarmed fighting style then all you claw attacks are d8 so you dont need a long sword
I'm not happy with 3 changes i feel they were not thought out and haphazardly thrown togather which cause one feature to be inferior in almost 90% of sitations. That being giving the tail which has reach already a defensive when bite was the tanking pick before with the double nerfs it is just worse in over 90% of sitations. Especially since you should try and not engage in combat at half hp and thats when you'd activate rage. profiency bonus healing is really low hardly worth loosing a greataxe strike or a ac bonus even if you do loose a reaction. If they were always active all the time while raging then i could see a time you would but they should have improved the healing instead of nerfing it if they only wanted it to activate below half hp.
UA versions of claw and bite were way better without being overpowered. New versions are just convoluted and weird. Tail is just OP. Theses changes don’t make sense to me.
So...after using 2 claw attacks, how do you get a 3rd with a weapon if you're not allowed to have a weapon in hand when you do your claw attacks? I think 5e is a collection of bad ideas thrown into the game so people can have 'official' unicorn centaur vampire angel wizard knight rogues with elven and demonic blood living in unthoughtful 'everything is a magical monster' campaign settings where even the toothpicks at the local Pub have a +1 bonus and grant Clairvoyance. It makes the game nothing but a framework denoting which dice to use when...and even then, it could all be done with percentile rolls. Time to pull back WoTC, or you'll end up like WoW after WotLK.

The tail attack gives reach yes, but more importantly it says it adds 5ft too your attack... if your a bug bear your tail hits at 15ft

In my head, I picture this subclass as a Lizardfolk or Tabaxi and that instead of "raging" they're just sort of going feral.
Or a dragonborn who becomes more dragon-like while raging. Just flavor the enhanced jump at lvl 6 as growing wings.
