  • Yes! I did it for over two decades. It is policy for probably most LEOs. Load mag to capacity. Place in weapon. Chamber a round. Eject magazine and add one. That is DUTY carry. And to tell you reality...in 25 years of qualifying and shooting 2 days every quarter...hundreds and hundreds of rounds...I had one failure in 25 years. It was with the 19M. And I am not knocking it...because we are talking about 1 failure out of THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of rounds. Started my LEO career with a Sig 228. Always followed the policy of duty carry with every weapon. Sig never failed ever...thousands of shots. Glock 22 replaced the Sig. Thousands and thousands of FREE government rounds. Never failed once. Glock 22 replaced with 19M. And I did have a failure on the firing line when it was still fairly new. Just once. Don't remember if was a FTF or FTE...just remember one time. I was fast as lightning back then and had it cleared and back to working before the targets turned. BUT, my point is the mags can be loaded to capacity and stored that way. Now i don't know what would happen if you stored them like that for 25 years and never emptied 'em. BUT, if you store your mags like that and every now and then got shoot your weapon, quality mags will very likely out live YOU!

I've had magazines that have been fully loaded since the 80's and function fine. Myth busted .
