    You can get by with 12 lb line, but put a 3 or 4 foot piece of clear plastic air tubing above swivel to protect line from barnacles. Line can slide through tubing when it gets against a piling.

    • @southernsalt

      That’s actually a really good idea that I’ve never heard of before. Thanks!!

    • @TridentDriver
      @TridentDriver Год назад +9

      Seems like you would totally defeat the purpose of the small line. If your goin to put tubing over your line you may as well use a 120 lb mono leader

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  Год назад +7

      The leader would still be exposed. He’s talking about using tubing around the knot which’s where most of my line drag occurs.

      My newest rod is a 75cm two-section telescopic rod that fits in my small backpack, it’s solid enough, it feels great and it looks great, especially with the reel I bought for it, colours match nicely 👍
      I’m forty now, but since my early twenties my gear has just kept getting smaller and lighter, and the level of fun I’ve had with it gets better and better, lol
      For me, not only is it more fun feeling every little movement, but you know that if you hook a big one you’re really going to have to work hard to land it 👌 🎣

    Tip your Crusty Crab with a piece of shrimp, for scent! Or smear on the Pro Cure scent! That will help.
    But, if they make them in muddy brown, that would help it look natural.

    Try soaking plastic baits in the oil from good cans of tuna fish

    I catch all my sheeps head on 10pound braid and 20-25pound leader. I agree with you, lighter tackle is way funner, catches just as much and in reality its lower profile so less spooking fish. Easy peasy.

    Higher pound test doesn’t horse fish in any faster it just has a higher tensile rate and abrasion resistance. I use 20lb braid in MA. for striped bass and reds/trout when I visit my sister in s.c., it’s fine, unless you’re running into sharks or bull reds etc.. You may want to think about a higher test leader, I use 15-40lb mono/fluoro depending.

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  Год назад

      But it does… lighter line means lighter drag and less forcing the fish. If I ran 40 pound line I could just lock the drag down and force the fish out

  • @puchman2419
    @puchman2419 Год назад

    Hey boss man Give you a friendly advice, use the same Lure But by the one with the hooks on the arm. It gives it action as it's falling down like a real crab when you have the hooks on the arm. I don't really like using the single hook. One seem not to get bites. But the one with the hooks on the arm. They bite it like you're using live bait.

  • @nicklausb
    @nicklausb Год назад

    Use heavier(50 or even 80 lb test) braid as mainline and keep your leader the same as you normally use. When you get drug through the pilings, the leader isn't usually broken, it's usually the main line that is cut.
    80lb test braid still handles better than 30lb mono.
