It's me. Yeah, well I can't get myself to go away. Oh God, I shouldn't feel this way. Reach down your hand in your pocket, pull out some hope for me. This song is therapy. When someone can put how you feel into words, and give those words that same stressed out, fed up feeling. Man, this song is everything on days like this.
Amen. A great song that someone like Rob puts so much emotion into is therapy. Hey, someone else is feeling what I feel. Better than a comfy couch, a therapist and $300 per hour. Rob will (should) go down as one of the great all time songwriters. He puts his heart out there in every song he does.
One of the best concerts I have ever went to. I liked Matchbox Twenty for years, but as I have gotten older, their songs resonate with me. Simply….. amazing.
Realizing i still know all of the words to all of the songs after all these years. This album is comfort for me- memories of good old days of old fashioned good music.
Yes! I remember my oldest brother playing this CD in his Jeep Wrangler. Back when I was just a young teenage little sister hanging out w her big brother, cruising in the Jeep. Saw Matchbox 20 last summer. One of my top fav concerts I've ever been to, all the songs just felt like old times. ❤
We liked these songs as kids because they sounded good. But now we love them with the wisdom and knowledge of being an adult. Always loved this song. I never connected the lyrics to myself but now, it helps me get through my bi-polar episodes. I'm manic depressant and when he sings "Hey, it's me and I can't get myself to go away" I just cry and let it all out.

Amen! Leave it to Matchbox 20 to say to themselves "ain't that right" when they've had it up to the boiling point and it's another true to life song that keeps us and them totally real!
I've been known for my knowledge of music for many years and have written reviews for many forms of media....in most all genres. Matchbox 20, IMO, is one of the best musical bands of all time. The members' sheer talent and brilliant songs is their recipe for greatness. Few bands ever reach that level.
This was my favorite song on that cd when I was 12. And it's still my favorite. Every time I hear it I sing along. Being 34 now and working in retail 40 hours a week. This is so fitting to how I feel at the end of every day. Lol
Music is the most amazing thing there is. If you can think of it, there's a song about it. Songs can capture our hearts, our souls, our minds. It isn't just about how they make us feel, but how they can let us express ourselves. All our favorite songs are just ones we can relate to. You can tell a lot about someone just by having them tell you all their favorite songs. Listen to their songs and you will know who they are as people.
I miss my 20s so very much! Until I play this & I'm right back there so alive so loving so kind so strong! So innocent & pure! I'm sorry for letting myself be manipulated by so called love of my life!
I can't believe their record label almost dropped Matchbox 20 over this song, it's so good! Glad they grew enough sense to keep them tho. Love Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas 🥰
Wow that would have been stupid lol. I honestly off the top of my head could only name this song without needing a bit of time to think, and id say this is one of their best.
@@thesausage351 I agree, i just bought their first album ,Yourself or Someone like You and have been playing it nonstop lol my neighbors might be tired of it but I'm not
Whattt?! I didnt realize this is my fav song, until I saw them in concert last summer. This whole song just rocked and hit hard in person. I'll never not go to a Matchbox Twenty show. 🤘
For some reason I have the lucky memory of remembering most of the songs that my parents played in the car when I was 4 and 5. This album came out and was played all over the radio around that time so some of the first songs I ever remembered hearing were songs from bands like MB20, Hootie, R.E.M., Alanis Morrisette. I think having such memories of loving that music so early has made me an old soul musically.
Man. Reading this, hoping my boys (7yrs & 4.5yrs) have memories of my 90s & 2000s jams... I can only hope my songs bring them the same happy memories as Elton John does for me riding in the family suburban w my dad and all the traveling softball games we rode to & listening to Elton John's greatest hits on cassette. ❤
@@jennyp6689 My dad is a big Elton John fan and shared most of his music with me as a kid. He introduced me to a ton of 70s acts like Fleetwood Mac and the Doobie Brothers.
@@davidmatheny1993 thats awesome! No idea why I just seem to have memories of Eltons Greatest hits... I guess because Crocodile Rock, Benny and the Jets & RocketMan are just classic. I begged my parents to buy my husband and I tickets to see EJ's Farewell Yellow Brick Rd tour. If I had known that EJ would continue that tour for multiple years to follow, I probably wouldn't have forfeited a year of presents (my husband and my bday gifts, Xmas gift, anniversary gift -if there was a chance for a present for the holiday it definitely got included).
I never looked forward to having these issues. I did, and I didn't want them. When this album came around I was like YES, THIS IS HOW I FEEL! It was nice to hear it in words instead of jumbles in my head. I felt validated. It was cathartic. Never since have any such lyrics grounded me so. Bands come and go but Rob Thomas and MB20 still remain the best of the best.
They played this on a Canadian radio channel early 97. First and favorite song I heard. Played it for my friends and they weren't impressed. 5 mo later, EVERYONE has the album and love the hell out of it !
My wife's favorite band. Saw them last night in Moline, Illinois and mainly went to see the Goo Goo Dolls. Glad I went and was unexpectedly surprised by the show these guys put on. Great job gents!
Very weird indeed. 9 years after you, I did the exact same thing; woke up with it in my head. Specifically the sound of the drum kit. Well, anyway, I hope this finds you still waking occasionally with a great song playing in your head! Rock on!
Loved this since the 1st time .. N years passed..but i was always trying to remember whatthe name was.. years later it just popped in my head n ive been playing it constantly ever since
An absolutely underrated gem of a song....that and the video feels like it was shot by David Lynch or Stanley Kubrick....2 of my top 3 favorite filmmakers 😎🤓👍👍
I was 11 years old when this came out, I liked their songs. Now that I'm older, I love their songs. So freakin relatable given that I've grown up and been through some rough shit. Has so much meaning. It makes me sad. I love Rob Thomas, dude is real.

'Cause you won't turn away

And no lord, your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling

Well I'm surprised if you'd believe
In anything that comes from me
I didn't hear from you or from someone else
And you're so set in life man, a pisser they're waiting
Too damn bad you get so far so fast
So what, so long
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
And no lord, your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling
It's been a long day, always ain't that right

I've been known for my knowledge of music for many years and have written reviews for many forms of media....in most all genres. Matchbox 20, IMO, is one of the best musical bands of all time. The members' sheer talent and brilliant songs is their recipe for greatness. Few bands ever reach that level.
This was my favorite song on that cd when I was 12. And it's still my favorite. Every time I hear it I sing along. Being 34 now and working in retail 40 hours a week. This is so fitting to how I feel at the end of every day. Lol
I'm 62yo and it's still one of my favorite songs.
I can relate! Working in retail is so freaking draining…every day you want to slap any of those costumers 🤣🤣
same born 1984
Same but this was not my fav just a fun one
@@bobmullis6106 yessss
This song is the reason I'm still here. It's strange how music can literally change our lives.
Listen to their songs and you will know who they are as people.
strange and priceless...
Right there with you, rob Thomas is my life saver. Always will be with his music.
This album is TIMELESS in my life and I’m 40❤️
Brings back memories...Love Matchbox Twenty...Love Rob Thomas.
Talented but believe me not the nicest guy
Love this song so much!!
Rob Thomas is a great singer and the rest of Matchbox 20 are great too..
YAY....
Definitely my favourite matchbox song it hits me different I love all there songs but song makes me feel something I can't explain ❤️
I miss my 20s so very much! Until I play this & I'm right back there so alive so loving so kind so strong! So innocent & pure! I'm sorry for letting myself be manipulated by so called love of my life!
Matchbox 20 in 21.🤘
Certainly the most eventful period of my life late 90's early 2000"s and the music was brilliant. It still is
I can't believe their record label almost dropped Matchbox 20 over this song, it's so good!
The classic MB20 lineup.
My wife's favorite band. Saw them last night in Moline, Illinois and mainly went to see the Goo Goo Dolls. Glad I went and was unexpectedly surprised by the show these guys put on. Great job gents!
Great song! Woke up singing it this morning! Haven't heard it in years! Weird how your brain records things.....
Very weird indeed. 9 years after you, I did the exact same thing; woke up with it in my head. Specifically the sound of the drum kit. Well, anyway, I hope this finds you still waking occasionally with a great song playing in your head! Rock on!
This is a great standard for good pop music. Great band.
+Shane Lee's this wasn't pop when it came out, but whatever it still is fkn awesome!!!
Shane Lees This isn't pop, it's alt rock.
This song and video is like a super blast of 90's to the face... and I love every second of it
I was 17 and I listened to this album for a year straight. 90's rocked!!!
Me also,I was 25 tho:-)whole album still holds up for sure
Another flawless album produced in the 90s alternative rock perfection
Loved this since the 1st time .. N years passed..but i was always trying to remember whatthe name was.. years later it just popped in my head n ive been playing it constantly ever since
Same
Most popish sounding songs about love and parties. There songs are about loneliness and depression.
2019 anyone? This is one of my top faves by them. Nobody makes music like this anymore. Alternative 90s rock ruled!
Agree totally 😎
Remember when they first came out? Blew me away back then. Still does so now. Thanks for sharing... December 2019, gonna be 2020 in half hour!
An absolutely underrated gem of a song....that and the video feels like it was shot by David Lynch or Stanley Kubrick....2 of my top 3 favorite filmmakers 😎🤓👍👍
On a huge Matchbox 20 kick today, feeling nostalgic. For some reason their music reminds me of driving in the car in the summer when I was younger. :)
This song is devoted to who else, but that special person who is the only one that would take that shit from you.
I was 11 years old when this came out, I liked their songs. Now that I'm older, I love their songs. So freakin relatable given that I've grown up and been through some rough shit. Has so much meaning. It makes me sad. I love Rob Thomas, dude is real.
This song and performance is absolutely amazing. I will never get tired of watching it. ❤
amazing lyrics.. always ANYONE can relate
It's sitting by the overcoat
The second shelf, the note she wrote
That I can't bring myself to throw away
And also
Reach she said for no one else but you
'Cause you won't turn away
When someone else is gone
I'm sorry 'bout the attitude
I need to give when I'm with you
But no one else would take this shit from me
And I'm so
Terrified of no one else but me
I'm here all the time
I won't go away
It's me, yeah well I can't get myself to go away
Hey it's me, and I can't get myself to go away
Oh God, I shouldn't feel this way now
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
And no lord, your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
Well I'm surprised if you'd believe
In anything that comes from me
I didn't hear from you or from someone else
And you're so set in life man, a pisser they're waiting
Too damn bad you get so far so fast
So what, so long
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
And no lord, your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
Oh, ain't that right
It's me, yeah well I can't myself to go away
Hey, well it's me, yeah well I can't get myself to go away
Oh God I shouldn't feel this way, now
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Pull out some hope for me
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
And no lord, your hand won't stop it
Just keep you trembling
It's been a long day, always ain't that right
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Well, reach down your hand right now
It's been a long day, always
Ain't that right
Reach down your hand in your pocket
Well, reach down your hand right now
It's been a long day, always
Ain't that right
Oh, ain't that right
Well, ain't that right, right, right on, shut up
Right, right, right on, right on, shut up
Come on
I like to listen to this song after work.
Whenever I have a shitty day at work, I listen to this song. Good call!
Art Vale lol some days this song speaks measures when you get home and she told me through a text message which I finally deleted lmao!
Art Vale
Ronnie Diaz every fucking time quit this shit!
Art Vale just right now listened after I finished a huge school project.
now all my homework is off my chest
Loved this song when it first came out and I was 13...... now I'm 33 and it means so much more.
Released on this day in 1996 still listening, love you guys ♥ 25 years of greatness
This was the first song that got me onto Matchbox 20, have just seen a shrink and she suggested tastes and aromas where my thing, but when I go back to it I really could listen to and relate to every one of their songs. Rob you are a genuine genius truly thank you for getting me through my "long day" I'm still listening 20 years later
I don't know what i would do without these boys in my life.
Definitely one best songs ever any generation can love the song❤❤❤
It's 2019 and I still can't get myself to go away...
Seeing them perform this song *live* is indescribable! 🔹️🫠🔹️
I STILL love this whole album, the first three albums in my opinion were great. The new one just doesn't give me the same feeling
The Old Matchbox Twenty Rules Always! The New Matchbox Twenty Sucks Big Time!
the friends 10 yr old daughter was horrified to think an oldie like myself (35) would listen to such a "cool" band like matchbox twenty . lol rock on rob and the lads

This is a GREAT album
Nearly every song on it was a hit!
I think what we need right now is to pull a little hope out for the world and the 95% percent of us that want to change the future.
Hard to pick favorites with them but I really love this one - album has stood the test of time
