Thanks! The 'metal parts of the switch are easily cleaned with phosphoric acid. I guess a Coke would work, but I used the stuff you get at TSC. Worked great. Thanks again!
I know this is a six year old video, but thanks! Most of the videos address replacing it with an aftermarket one. However, I have a 2000 Jeep xj classic (136,000+ miles on it) and I like to keep it as original as possible when repairing it! I guess if the little Mercury switch (?) goes out I’ll get a replica similar to the original. I also saw the comment about the LED upgrade light and will see if I can get that. Again, much thanks for the video!
This was very helpful. I was able to go to AutoZone and get the bulb right away and install it with no problem. It is not that I need the light that much but I hate having something not working on my Jeep. Also, I know how it turns on an off!
Here is an LED replacement for that bulb: LEDKINGDOMUS 4pcs 44mm Festoon LED Bulb 12SMD Rigid Loop 1.73" White Interior Dome Map LED Lights 561 562 567 564
This is exactly what i was looking for! The internet was only showing me results for aftermarket led strips. Would you happen to know if it is possible to get an LED replacement bulb for the driver foot well light, as well?

Michael Maschenik It has an internal switch that turns off the light when the hood closes.
