Love Arch Enemy and Alissa is one of the class of metal vocalists who has a whole massive vocal toolkit available to then. She growls with AE but she has the technique and vocal agility to hit operatic high notes if she wishes (check her Swan Lake with the band The Agonist for an example). It is always a treat when you find one of her other styles, but the growls are always the most epic to me. I especially love how the diction is so clear, her predecessor and now manager and once mentor, Angela Gossow who is the OG, was the same. This is such an anthem of empowerment that the lyrics *should* be heard, and not lost in an overly distorted muddy mess.
Nightwish and Arch Enemy are both thirty years old. They've been around for a long time. Nightwish does a lot of epic, gothic romance music while Arch Enemy is all about the epic anthems and fight cheers. I think of Nightwish as for the champagne and wine moments, while Arch Enemy is for those times you just want a beer and whiskey. You should check out one of their live videos sometime. They get the crowd pumped and ready to take on an army.
You make Nightwish sound like they were for refined, wealthy people. Did you know that Nightwish launched their own beer back when Tarja was still their singer?

Just found you. I found Arch Enemy on tv at 15. The song was We Will Rise and it scared the shit out of me. Looking at me now, people would LMFAO. It does take adjusting but if you enjoy it, you get accustomed to it after time. Stay well. Subbed :)
