More mergers mean less competition. More shrinkage in commercial aviation is not good for Americans.
Shrinkage is embarrassing.
Where would competition be if JetBlue were to go out of business? Where does competition come from if Syn Country goes out of business?
@@RLTtizME Remember Seinfeld?
@@frankfielder Of course.
There has been 2 no 3 new carriers starting up. I think a JetBlue and Alaska merger would serve Americans much better while allowing beeeze,Avelo, Northern pacific and even Allegiant growth opportunities
"10% for the big guy" will push that merger right through.
jetblue couldn't do spirit so there's no way they're getting swa
But under a new administration, that might change
I agree. Biden needs to go.
Southwest isn’t getting JetBlue but Sun country is gone. A JetBlue acquisition would cost alot of money and would force Southwest to change its buisness model completely
@@KingSosa97 well of course Southwest would have to change their business model with buying any type of Airbus
Invest in aviation paint NOW.
Or Wrap them like a tesla. 🤣
Who paints vehicles anymore? You know you can wrap them
Southwest doesn’t need other Airlines, Jet Blue needs Alaska
It shouldn't happen!
SWA - Sun Country would make more sense and be more likely to be approved. No way a JetBlue merger would be approved if Spirit wasnt.
Retaining THREE entire law firms? This SWAPA must be flush with cash.
Southwest needs to set up its own internal quality inspection teams to get involved in monitoring the construction of their Boeing planes. It’s obvious they cannot trust Boeing. This type of monitoring is typical in grocery where they employ third party auditors to keep watch over their food suppliers.
Southwest has internal auditors that actually work with Boeing at their plant they've had them for years SWA is Boeing's biggest client. 😉
No mergers! We need more competition not less.
Then we better not let any airlines go out of business, either. After all, that would reduce competition.
I agree with you
@@alexisr.diazmartinez5900 ok so how is that to be done?
The only thing crap like this does is raise ticket prices. This crap needs to stop!
SWA needs airplanes. Period.
They need AIRBUS airplanes, that's why they are doing it. They are full of iffy 737s and Boeing is going down by the head.@@pchansen100
Without consolidation the big airlines will force smaller airlines out of business. It’s very simple macroeconomics. Not always about your access to cheap fares!
@@smitteyb11 exactly and not to mention the big 3 are where they are due to mergers
Hopefully Jet Blue will keep Airbus and switch the entire fleet over to Airbus while immediately stop purchasing the FrankinMax. 🧟♂️🛫🛠️
Hell No! Can't stand airbus!
jetBlue doesn't fly Max aircraft. They fly A320, A321, and A321neo aircraft, so not sure what you mean by switch the entire fleet over to Airbus.
@@marcd1981think they mean if they merge. .. have an all airbus fleet eventually
How long did it take you to pick out those emoji's. Probably a waste of time don't you think?
@@user-ew3dm1jq6j why??
I was involved in three mergers in my 37 year career with the major airlines. Nothing but hard times and continuous legal fights. Nothing good comes out of them.
The justice department will not let it happen no matter what the pilots and law firms say.
Yea we gotta get rid of Biden. He's completely stopping airlines from growing by using mergers.
An Alaska/Hawaiin/Jetblue merger would make a great national airline competitor. To compete with the big 4.
Not good... I am from Germany but i remember the USA having much more Airlines in the Past... Northwest, TWA, Pan Am, Continental and more... It is no good development.
Indeed, more monopoly always equals expensive tickets and worse maintenance
It’s unaffordable to fly these days due to monopolies
Try flying anywhere in NWT or Nunavut, many people seem to forget it's still a part of Canada
So why is Southwest and Jet Blue ok but Jet Blue and Spirit isn't?
Spirit is Ultra Low Cost Carrier, JetBlue is just Low Cost. While Southwest is also Low cost.
Ahh nothing like a Maximus Video and coffee in the morning 😊

Maximus Disasterous.
SWA + ALASKA makes more sense.
Makes far more sense than swa/Jetblue! If the merger couldn’t be approved though, Spirit, the government will not approve a merger with SWA.
@@kenwhitfield219 It's all about route redundancy. And SWA doesn't want Jet Blue's fleet.
I believe they do want the fleet. Not all of it tho. If something like that ever went through, I believe they would retire all the Embraers and the A320 and retain the A321NEO and A220. Both aircraft would add safety net to the carrier for more potential MAX issues and add capacity while opening new routes. This would also give southwest a better presence in the Northeast as well as the Caribbean. Both markets the carrier has been wanting to expand in.
@antonyh37 Facts brother. I would totally be open to this happening. Being from Trinidad & Tobago, lacking connections to the US is a big issue, a merger JetBlue and Southwest would help a lot.
SW/B6 make much more sense. Same unions for both pilots & flight attendants. B6 used to be very similar to SW in service before B6 upgraded their planes for Europe. Also, B6 has routes and hubs that SW does not have due to the size of their planes. B6 is an Airbus fleet with a few E190s for small regional airports. This would expands SW and be a bonus. Once Biden is out office there a better chance of a merger.
Possibly one of the most irritating AI voices on this platform.
Just what we need… more monopolies
I’m guessing you don’t know the definition of a monopoly.
@@buckcampbell4292
I’m guessing you don’t know an example of sarcasm when it’s presented…
Southwest customer service is going down almost as fast as a 737Max with a stuck AoA sesnsor.
Wait.. too soon?
No, but you have to proofread before posting if you want the MAXimum (see what I did there) effect.
Too late. A window/door plug falling out is more current. Or a tire falling off the plane.
Everyone always forgets that JetBlue also flies the E-190; they're no longer an Airbus-only operation. But yes, I see your bigger-picture point that this merger would end SWA's current 737-only philosophy. Alaska did that briefly when they acquired Virgin America.
They’re getting rid of the E-190s either later this summer or by the end of the year as more A220-300s join JetBlue’s fleet.
Boeing 737 + Airbus A320 series is big plus. Commonality matters less when the total operations of both companies are so large. But the benefits of operating both are great. You can tailor each route for the most suitable aircraft. If there's an issue with one, you can use another. When you need new aircraft, you can pitch each manufacturer (Boeing and Airbus) against each other to get the best deal. Delta is extremely good at this, and I think Southwest Blue could be too.
Is SWA hedging its bets regarding 737 issues? Always good to have some sort of backup plan should the 737 finally hit the dust.
They have heard this trope for years. They know what they're doing. They have given up mining advice from YT Comments decades ago.
Funny thing I was in Phoenix 3/17 making a delivery near the approach end of sky harbor and saw a southwest plane with a unique delivery with the sun country airlines sun compass logo on it h😊mmmmmm

@@tod456The title makes it sound like a merger between Airbus and jetblue.
Part of the merger talks today are that today if an airline wants to grow, they don't have the ability to just go get 30 aircraft very fast. So, they look to buy another airline to expand their equipment, and cities served with the staff to handle it.
That’s correct it’s a play for airplanes and pilots. Can’t get either anytime soon without buying out someone
I remember ever since Sun Country was buying 737s…there were rumors about southwest merger. With Sun Country…you have the Amazon contract along with every airport being a regular airport for Sun Country…I think that would help SWA the best.
I miss Herb Kelleher. SWA was a great airline under his guidance, and the entire operation has been in a MAX-dive ever since.
If the DOJ wouldn't allow JB and Spirit to merge, there's no way they'll allow this.

Great video Maximus. Jet Blue wanted Spirits Gates, Pilots, and yes Airbus Planes. Someone commented; Why is SWA OK but not Spirit? The present Federal Administration, is the problem on so many levels. I can say that Jet Blue lost a lot of money because it fell thru. Once we get the “Commies” out of the Whitehouse in November, let the fun and free market reign supreme…
I believe Southwest wants to diversify the fleet with at least one other type due to the MAX woes, however both major manufacturers are backed up with orders. More aircraft sooner rather than later would give a boost to SWA as they have had to cut capacity in an already tough market. The Jblue and the Breeze merges make the most sense for SWA. JBlue would give SouthWest routes that it wants. While Breeze would give them the A220 that peaked its interests before placing the large MAX 7 order that has since been delayed for years. Sun country's 737s are old NG airplanes and doesn't really add value other than capacity.
I felt worried about JetBlue expand south Florida for the future to Europe
If they are going to acquire an aline it is more likely to be Spirit due to their worse financial situation.
Omg in my opinion we need to slam on the reverse thrust of these airline mergers lest we end up with 3-4 airlines being able to completely fix the ticket prices to full high. We the flying public will end up with even more cramped seats and no services for a ticket price which will stagger the imagination. Competition is a good thing.
Vote for anti trust supporters.
Against it completely.
This should and probably will be blocked by the FTC just like the Spirit Jet Blue merger.
Southwest and Sun Country merging would make the most sense because both airlines are an all 737 fleet and they would get a key midwest hub in Minneapolis not only is Sun Country headquarted there but you also have delta which could create a lot more competition between the two airlines due to both Sun Country and Delta competiting with eachother in many markets to and from MSP. Compared to other ultra low cost carriers like Allegiant, Frontier, and Spirit, sun country is way smaller and if southwest was to buy sun country it would not make a big difference because Sun Country really only is an airline that fly's minnesotans from minneapolis to the rest of the country and back. Plus the reputation of sun country nowadays is not that good.
Fleets are not compatible.
The whole purpose of antitrust laws is to keep mergers from thwarting free enterprise. We need to support these laws not make them political footballs.
My understanding is the only reason SW is looking to merge is because of the delay of the Max 7. They say they are flying half filled Max8 and 800 aircraft on their shorter flights. I do not believe Sun Country has any 700 series in their fleet and if so not many. Jet Blue is all Airbus so there is a ton of money spent on training and servicing those type of aircraft not to mention the Jetblue A320's and A321's have as many seats as the Max8 and 800 series aircraft. Unless they can find smaller aircraft like the 700 series or A319 which most of those still flying are up there in age I do not see a real solution.
Please tell me this is the livery they’re going with 😅
Hell no ! Southwest should stay independent Delta is too into itself and would change the culture of southwest. And I don’t see how delta is a U.S. national carrier anymore with an all foreign airline.
Who has more money? Jet Blue or Southwest?
Wasn't this kicked around quite a few years back as well or am I mistaken?
Wrong model, different airplanes, lost competition.
Ticket prices 💥
So southwest can merge JetBlue but JetBlue can’t merge with Spirit. Ok….
Jet Blue also flies Embraer planes, not just Airbus. I was on one two days ago…
Being retired as new 220s come online.
Maybe if Southwest has cash they could upgrade one plane type they use for a ‘different’ one 😅
Definitely not.
I’ve been hearing spirit
So LUV will be able to merge with JetBlue, after JetBlue was not allowed to merge with Spirit?
If that happened, the combined company would be the world’s largest airline with over 1,000 aircraft but that’s only a dream as the DOJ will terminate this the way it terminated the JetBlue/Spirit tie-up though this one will be decided quickly.
Now KBTV will never get Southwest service.
Southwest has had its share of problems, but is a good airline. I’d much rather fly SW than some legacy carriers.
SW JetBlue merger doesn’t make ANY sense & wouldn’t happen anyway.
Ever since Herb left operational and strategic direction at SWA, they have been going south or downhill. The airline industry, albeit, has become a battlefield and not an industry I likely would want to be in, even if I was starting with 1-billion dollars. The JetBlue + Spirit merger made much more sense to the traveling public than SWA acquiring another airline. But DoJ blocked that, for whatever strange reasons on their part. SWA is now diluting their brand, their customer care is way down from years past, and now the Frank Lorenzo types appear to be in charge, surrounded by their bean-counters. Michael Douglas in the movie Wall Street offered his 1987 futuristic pronouncement: "Greed is good!" Selling their $ouls for more exponential growth, and only serving their institutional stockholders at the cost of other key stakeholders.
That would be a great merger. SWA would get rid of every JB airplane since they aren't Boeing. Then they would dump JB employees since they wouldn't need all their employees.
SWA would also end JetBlue’s services to the few European destinations they go to.
Southwest would not leave Boeing. Perhaps they are considering Avelo who flies to many smaller airports Southwest doesn't yet.
LMFAO!
Makes sense if SWA wants to wash its hands of Boeing easily.
As of now, the culture at Boeing is still dangerously horrible.
Thanks for the latest installment of "WTF is going on now?" in the US airline industry.
The title of this video is a little confusing when just reading the thumbnail. The first thing you see is "Airbus JetBlue Merger Rumors Heat Up", which was a very confusing couple of seconds, wondering how a manufacturer was merging with an airline.
I thought SW was proffitable, why would they want a Merger?, unless theyre taking over JetBlue???
We are not turning the profits we need. Boeing cut our deliveries down to 46 and let’s just say that’s optimistic. We hired for increased deliveries that aren’t coming so we are running very fat with staff now. All hiring is frozen, natural attrition will downsize the company until capacities increase.
Merger to decrease customer service, makes sense
Ticket prices will go up and maintenance will go down
I boycott Boeing products.
Nobody cares. Move along.
Hear me out, no airline would be allowed to own, or lease, more than 5 aircraft -- with the stipulation that no aircraft could be a Boeing product. Can't make money, then you go out of business. The rest of us keep getting our pay cut, so can airline employees.
Only 1 other real airline of size matches aircraft. Alaska. Hawaiian merger is not done.
not true!!!!! put those rumors to rest!!!!!!!!
Glad the administration actually did some good here.
This is not going to happen. Lets move on!
Buy the rumor, Sell the news
Southwest Airlines is too big to merge with other airlines. Southwest Airlines and JetBlue do not have any fleet commonality. At least JetBlue merging with Spirit Airlines had fleet commonality and both airlines are not as large as the big four airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Besides, Southwest Airlines should instead focus on buying a 45% or so stake in another airline and form an alliance. Delta Air Lines did something similar when they purchased a stake in Virgin Atlantic Airways and Latam Airlines.
SW is a great airline. I worry a merger with JB would be the worst corporate cultural disaster since Novell married WordPerfect.
Airbus?
Is it blocking the mergers a good thing? I don't understand. So previous administration gave a lot of funds to airliners to keep workers. Did they sign some agreement, so now government has more power over them than before pandemic? Or were this laws already previously established, but governments were more kind to them, until they messed up with pandemic funds? Is this related to some airlines misbehaving or is it just lets go Brandon?
It is simple anti trust legislation preventing monopolies.
Preventing this merger is very good for the flying public.
Bs . And even if …this is one merger/acquisition that it blocked would be totally understandable
their fleets dont match up
This comment section proves that aviation enthusiasts and people that do not work in the airline industry understand very little about the industry’s current state.
Mergers and acquisitions at least keep most jobs that do not have redundancies. While airlines going out of business looses all jobs and peoples lives get destroyed. If those employees from the companies that go bust want to stay in the industry, they will have to start from the bottom all over again.
This isn’t a good idea. I want to fly JetBlue due to only Airbus Airplanes.

Airbus / Jetblue merger ?? Better check your caption ...
A Southwest/JetBlue merger is not going to happen, but Southwest/Sun Country is likely. Neither Southwest nor Alaska Airlines would switch to Airbus aircraft, so if you're an Airbus fan, which Maximus has become, stick with JetBlue.
I worked for Southwest for close to 17 years and the acquisition of Air Tran was a disaster and history will repeat itself with an acquisition of Jet Blue. Most of Air Tran's then Leadership was God Awful and Southwest and that then POS CEO , Gary Kelly basically let Air Tran run the show which put the Southwest Culture to RIP.
Many good people came from Air Tran that i still consider friends to this day but the Air Tran Leadership was awful.
Southwest Airlines followed that blueprint and is just a terrible run company lead by current SWA CEO, Bob Jordan who is Gary Kelly's puppet.

Why?😂
"Airbus JetBlue Merger Rumors Heat Up ..." -- complete nonsense.
JetBlue and Southwest have totally different and distinct customer offerings. A merger would not sit well between these two airlines at all. For instance the JetBlue TransAtlantic operations and Mint suites would be totally foreign to Southwest. If Southwest has money to spend in a takeover they'd be better upgrading their scheduling computer systems so that the meltdown in scheduling that happened not all that long ago does not happen again.
I believe you were a consultant for Braniff as I recall. Uh oh.
