Van Veldhoven's music is suave, smooth and unctuous, no matter what piece he interprets. He creates music that makes me drift like a dove gliding in high airs. I am then in a trance carried by the winds wherever they take me. Thank you NBS for making all videos free. This is not only a treat, but true medication as well.
I couldn't agree with you more. Before the digital age I lived in an old century farm house. Our alarm clock was an analog Christmas lights timer rigged up to the Brandenburgs on the turntable. All spun through the resident rock band's stage sound system. Bach physically rumbling the floors. No grander way to jump out of bed.

Once the Sinfonia started, I just couldn’t click away. Something about this music sucked me in and captured my full attention, just fascinating and awesome.
Absolutely brilliant. Love the NBS. Never fails to bring JOY and make me smile. Would love to hear them live. What a gift to the musical world they are. As is JS Bach of course. Wonderful combination. A divine gift to humanity. Thank you. Fliss G
When you think "it's impossible to write something as beautiful the Sinfonia" and then Bach hits you with the long alto aria "Wo zwei und drei versammelt sind"...
many viewers may be unaware that this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Netherlands Bach Society may be without peer, their videographers do not lag behind. By any objective evaluation JS Bach represents one of the apogees of human culture.

I completely agree, I was about to make a comment, but I didnt find the word "bassoon". In Sweden we call that instrument "fagott", but I was clever enough to understand that this word has another meaning in english (!). So now I have learned something. The word bassoon.
Hej@@staffanolofsson8201, Everyone calls the bassoon fagott or some variant of it. It comes from the Italian word for "bundle of sticks" in Italian -- fagotto. The English took bassoon from a later French and Italian variant for "large bass," bassone, but the Italian word for bassoon is still fagotto. Very strange.
@@DarrenBush The "bundle of sticks" meaning of _fagotto_ didn't come into general use until after that term was already being applied to the bassoon. Both the bassoon and its predecessor the dulcian are known in Italy as _fagotto,_ but neither instrument is made from, or even resembles, a bundle of sticks. In fact, the dulcian is carved from a single block of wood. The word _bassoon_ is related to the French _basson_ and the Italian _bassone._
This is the best performance of the Aria "Wo zwei und drei versammlet sind" I`ve ever heard. A wonderful countertenor and an unbelievable orchestre. Thank you so much !
Yes, and while Alex Potter is a wonderful male alto, Irene Friedli’s alto voice cannot be surpassed in the Bachstiftung rendition, deep and rich. But she hasn’t sung with them since-one does wonder why….
I can't stop listening to the final choral. It fills me with such peace and tranquility, and it is tonally so beautiful. It feels Bach is deliberately using archaic compositional techniques that predate him at least by a hundred years such as the figuration in the final "Amen" cadence -- what a joy and exactly what I would want from a 'dona nobis pacem' (which this is the German version of).
This was unknown to me, but now it is known. And loved. A cantata with so much genius in it, and with the orchestra and the singers at their top. Thank you NBS.

Your music always makes my soul recover. And I find this to be a great Cantata and specially love the oboes in this. But all the the singers and musicians are of course world class!
Beyond superb..I do believe that this group of musicians are the best I have ever heard, dare I say, comparable to/but different to the Simon Preston/Trevor Pinnock recordings of the 80's/90's. I love the relaxed feeling and naturally flowing musicality exuded by the conductor and performers..no power play controls which one finds displayed by certain contemporary English conductors! which get in the way of the listener's enjoyment.
