    Once again, Dave, salmiakki is not "salty liquorice" as in putting table salt into liquorice. The salmiakki flavor comes from ammonium chloride and needs not to be used with liquorice, although often is. And the black color is just the invention of the candy industry and has no real connection to the real color of either liquorice or ammonium chloride.

    • @juukyll
      @juukyll 5 лет назад +38

      The deep black colour of liqourice comes obviously from medical charcoal, and i think it has nothing to do with the taste. But one main ingredients, molasses, is quite black or deep brown. So i think that the deal with the colouring is that they wanted to purify the black colour, to make the liqourice look more delicious. And these were my conclusions only, there can be other reasons to the use of charcoal as well.

    • @Deussu
      @Deussu 5 лет назад +41

      Dave should probably join with some chemistry teacher and let him show Dave how salmiakki is made!

    • @mrwalter1049
      @mrwalter1049 5 лет назад +3

      @@juukyll I doubt it has anything to do with medical charcoal other than the element. If you have a look at a black food coloring you'd see that it just says "plant based carbon". That is not the same as the activated carbon used in medicine.

    • @juukyll
      @juukyll 5 лет назад +9

      @@mrwalter1049 Finnish name of E153, which is colouring of most finnish liqourices, is "lääkehiili", which translates to medical charcoal or acticated carbon. So I assume it is the same chemical composition as medical activated carbon, altough it is not probably medical grade. Anyway, my point was that the colouring is added to ephasize the already blackish colour, and the black colour is not just a decision that someone has made.

    You should try the Finnish national sport called Kalsarikänni. All you need is underpants (kalsari) and liquor (viina --> känni [drunk]). Kalsarikänni means being drunk alone at home (couch is fine). When you are drunk, you can call to your boss or the other person you hate and tell them what you really think about them. This is also a good solution with Coronavirus.

MS Mariella) and was experiencing blending vodka and candy. “Turkish peppers” (salmiakki candy) made the first “salmiakkikossu” and was a instant hit. Salmiakkikossu makes my favourite drink when mixed with a bit of viina and some generic energy drink like battery. It's called punainen kala, same as one hard red candy we have

    It is absolutely fantastic that you can buy lonkero from many 7/11 and Cirkle K shops in Hong Kong

    That "long drink" is the first one that came on the market, in 1952 to celebrate the 1952 Helsinki summer Olympics. People apparently liked it given the vast array of flavours on the market today.

    Oh that british "lovely", all you'd need are some Union Jacks flying behind her when she says it :D
    And I've noticed that quite a many brits actually like salmiakki (and dutch too). Apparently it's because of anise-liquorice (or something like that) which tastes really similar to salmiakki

    I like the fact, that the strong ones have been kept in cold properly! Nothing is as bad as Minttu or Salmari warm...

    I brought some Mnttu from Lativia at Super Alko, tastes just like the mint in the Marianne candy, It is called Minttu Twist Polka. It was very cheap .

    You should try mixing salmiakki koskenkorva with energy drink! It tastes absolutely fantastic! If you wanna order it at a bar or a club it's called "punainen kala" (red fish) :D

    I love your mom. So sweet and kind and funny. I would not mind sitting down and having a salmiakki shot with her.
    I wish you would make another video and try Kyrö gin Napue, Teerenpeli whisky, and Helsinki Distillery Company also has liqueurs etc

    I suggest you to try "UFO shotti". It's also from Finland. It's pretty girly drink (dont tell my friends that i love it). Pink colored with taste of salmiakki and sour fruity effect
