Drinks that are drank while hungover are called "korjaussarja". Actual drinking while hungover is called "korjailla" which stand for "repairing" which then leads to the repair kit saying.
Jaloviina was invented during wartime when there was a shortage of brandy, the then-favourite drink of the Finns. The state decided to manufacture four different "cut" versions of brandy (only two of which are sold nowadays): three-star (75% brandy, 25% grain ethanol), two-star (50-50), one-star (25-75) and "zero-star" (grain ethanol with colouring to make it look like brandy).
The one-star Jallu (also known as The Sheriff) is widely considered to be the one and only. There's even an "Academic Jaloviina Society" in Aalto University, Espoo (the joining fee is the price of a one-star bottle).
and since you already have Jallu, you should try a cocktail called "Talonmiehen vapaapäivä" ("The janitor's day off"), for which you need: One-star Jallu Coca-Cola Step 1: pour a glass (~2dl) of Jallu Step 2: put the Coke back in the fridge Step 3: Enjoy
You can make 5 star stuff your self. Just use better brandy/ cognac as base. I would recommend Monnet X.O or similar as regular Jaloviina is based on VSOP grade stuff. Same with grain alcohol or lets just say vodka go for some top self premium brand like Finlandia, Belvedere, Grey Goose etc. You can call this "made from scratch" jaloviina as yoloviina.
Another finnish cocktail you should definitely try is kossuvissy. It's simple but pleasant, just like us finns. Add 4cl of Koskenkorva to a glass and fill it with Vichy water (or any other sparkling water of choice). If you want to go fancy you can add a slice of lemon and some ice. Enjoy!
Try in the next episode Napue´s Gin. Make from it Gin and Tonic whit rosemary and cranberrys. In 2015, Napue was voted the best gin in gin tonic at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), and in 2016 the award came from the San Francisco World Spirit Competition's premium-Gin series.
Hi Dave! When I went to Finland they made me try Vahwa Terwa.. Which tastes like your clothes smell after going to bonfire night... Very odd! That and cloudberry liquor which was lovely in comparison!
About the cocktails. Lonkero is originally a cocktail. Gin and grapefruit soda. It was made for the Helsinki olympics because they needed something fast and easy to mix and serve to the tourists. It stuck around after that as you can see
@@t1n4ukk0 moontv teki cocktail videon jossain vaiheessa, miss oli ville vallaton cocktail. ja yhdyn siihen mielipiteesen ettei viinaa ja maitoa pitäisi missääm vaiheessa sekoittaa toisiinsa missään tapauksessa
You should try some Lakka liqueur. Tastes good imo. Also I dare you to try Gambina. Tastes horrible imo. Both should be pretty good for the Finnish aspect.
Like quite many people before me, I'd also like to suggest trying some stronger beers. Finland has many small breweries with fantastic products. I'd also recommend giving Finlandia vodka a try since it's one of few Finnish vodkas with actual quality.
You are learning the culture pretty nicely. The point is just to find the drink that will not make you puke and gets you maximum drunk as fast as possible. Repeat again in the morning.
One of the traditional finnish cocktails: Ville Vallaton = Pisang ambon, vodka and milk. Leijona Pastilli Shot= Tar flavored liquorice vodka, Karpalolonkero = Cranberry long drink, Minttu black mint and my personal invention/suggestion for the next summer: Metsmaasikas Wild Strawberry liqueur + Vanilla ice cream + whole milk (put that all in blender) after blending add some ice cubes.
You should try cranberry lonkero and lime-cactus lonkero too! And orange-pineapple! And from Alko you should try Kissanminttu, Valdemar and Hotti hedelmä-salmiakki liqueur.
If you're friend of sweet cream liqueur I recommend Pople liqueur. Specially strawberry ice cream and marshmallow & raspberry flavors. Bottles are cute pastel color and they are good for smoothies and milk shakes. I myself mix it with a bit milk and then a bit ice. Also you sure do look like you're having a hang over :C Poor Luola isä
Try some sahti (for example Finlandia Sahti) if you can get your hands on it. It's safe to say that if an Alko has a fridge for some products, they can order it for you.
I drink like once in a blue moon and I remember my first contact with Jaloviina... My first shot ever was a Jaloviinashotti and I didn't even know what the liquid in the glass was and I swear I almost died. Same with Ufoshotti and I have so many regrets. Very proud of you trying all these tho. Very Finnish.
If you are able to get your hands on some Sahti, you should definitely try that. It falls somewhere between mead and beer - Really good! Any manufacturer works but "Lammin Sahti" is the most popular one
YES. Ufo shotti is awesome and tastes exactly like the candies. :D Oh and I like "mummon tohveli"-drink (grandmas morning slipper), it's mixture of baileys cream liquer and salmiakki kossu. That's like the best thing a bartender has ever suggested to me. :D You have missed at least Lapponias lakka and mustikka liquers. Very goood, I recommend! ;)
UFO shot comes from the candy "UFO karkki" which come in few varieties, but the pink one was the 'first' :) It's a sour hard candy with salmiakki powder inside.
You should try a drink called kelkka! 2cl black kurrant vodka, 2cl passoa liqueur and orange juice. You should also try koskenkorva vanilla or peach vodka ☺️👌🏻
One classic drink almost all finns drink when they are a bit younger is Kultalonkero (”golden lonkero”) i suggest that! And since you have grown an affinity for Jaloviina, go get the Jaloviina Long Drink!
Dave! Try mixing jaloviina with flaggpunsch (you’ll find it at alko by the liqueurs) it gets a nice sweetness, but still tastes great. Ratio about 50/50. And the rest of your flaggpunsch you can heat up in a coffee maker (just put it straight in the pot, not in the water thingy) and have a glass as a dessert after eating pea soup.
You should try other jaloviina mixtures. One pretty known one is jallumuuli. you crush some lime in to a glass, put in some jallu and mix it with schweppes ginger ale soda. It's fantastic.
@@cozy_rain_sleep Well, I'm not entirely sure if this holds true anymore, since Gambina has grown this kind of a cult following lately and has thus gotten a bit more expensive (could just be overall inflation and maybe increased alcohol taxation), though it's still very cheap by Finland's standards. The most alcohol per euro back when I wrote this comment was Marabello, but now it has been changed to lower ABV and isn't that much cheaper than before, so it's not most alcohol per euro anymore. Actually, Gambina might be number 1 now despite becoming a bit more expensive over the years. Both Gambina and Marabello are these kind of wine cocktails with a bitter vermouth like taste and a lot of sugar.
Valhalla and Gambina (if you manage to find a bottle that is). Also, you should try some traditional Sahti, although it may be hard to come across unless you're somewhere in or around the Häme region.
Napue Gin! It was rewarded as the world's best for gin&tonic in 2015. Kyrö Distillery also has whisky, another gin and long drink. Other Finnish alcoholic brands include Happy Joe ciders, Crowmoor ciders (actually a lot of cider brands… so I'll stop now lol) and Garage lonkero I don't remember if you've tried Minttu, but there are several versions.
My recommend for the next episode is the Jalokahvi. I noticed that someone mentions the "Korjaussarja", sometimes it can also turned to "Virityssarja"(ksi) which means "a tuning kit" :)
Try out "Tervasnapsi" and "Leijona pastilli shot". First one might not be so good but the Leijona pastilli shot is good when served as ice cold shot's and great when its served ice cold and in or after the sauna.
I was really surprised by that Jussi69 aswell the first time I bought it, I mostly bought it just because I like the band The 69 Eyes which Jussi plays the drums in.
The one star Jaloviina is also known as the Sheriff. In Finnish cultural circles the Sheriff is a favored gift for premieres and other festive occasions while the three starred variant is shunned and sometimes even considered an insult.
Depends on your taste. I can't tolerate the sugary aftertaste you get w. regular coke. Zero has crisper taste that works well with Sheriffs' cognac tones.
Oh the ufo shot brings back memories from a year back, drank one bottle of ufo shot and then 6 lonkeros (siksari) in one night and wasn't even that drunk! After that I realised that I have a problem and was 3 months without drinking
Here's something new which probably dont get too much thumbs since most people wont know it yet, couple years ago, a product from lapplandia came market, espresso vodka, its vodka which has been flavoured with coffee beans. It won a big competition last year, and its probably the best cold shot u can drink that is finnish made. So, even if this doesnt get thumbs up, u should give it a try. Its delicious.
You should try traditional rye based Sahti from northern Satakunta/southern pohjanmaa. Try place called Finlandia sahti to start your journey to experience mythical finnish beers.
You should try Fireball+Glögi combination! It's freaking fantastic, even tho Christmas was like two months ago. And Kultalonkero and Karpalolonkero, definitely. Your vids and reactions to Finnish stuff are hilarious!
You need to try Janukas! Which is a Jacky makupala vanukas (kids pudding), the toffee flavour and mix some Jaloviina into it. Jaloviina plus vanukas = Janukas!
I recommend you to try Strawberry Ice Cream and Raspberry Yogurt liqueurs by Pople. They're heavenly good! You can mix it with vodka or take like it like a shot. Also good with ice cream.
I mean it's pretty Finnish to drink when hungover...
Haha true... I've been here way too long 😂

Great educational answer! I personally dislike Jallu though, I prefer Vodka or Jägermeister.

He already did minttu + cocoa, i think in the 2nd video :)
Kraunator that's true, I just checked. I must've'd forgotten!
A half? A HALF!? Perkele, give me all of it. xD

You should try Karpalo lonkero (granberry long drink) and also 3 star Jaloviina with hot schocolate.
Granberry long drink is disgusting. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone lol
Karppis o vitu nannaa
Part 4 too, since we got some stronger beers in the shops
Yeah, I really need to try those!
"Strong", not really. Just normal beers. And the 5,5% limit still restricts a huge variety of beers sold in stores.
Shoulda probably used the word "stronger" :D
Karhu is the best strong one in my opinion

Lonkero also has another meaning, which is ''Tentacle''

I smirked when you said "i hoping it's going to be nice like fruity taste" and I knew it's not. 😂
Enjoy!
You can't use just any water. It's the sodium in Vichy water that makes kossuvissy a timeless classic.
Or as I like it, double the Kossu and add some extra salt (and of course, Hartwall Vichy)
You have to try KultaLonkero

No, it's shit. Never ever try any "lonkero", which has the words "käymisteitse valmistettu" because long drink it is not.
Try napue gin and Kyrö karpalo lonkero

The UFO name comes from UFO candies. You should try them too.
Oh reaaaally? If they're as bad as the drink, maybe not xD
Dave Cad you should still give it a try.
They are terrible. Synthetic "strawberry" taste combined with salmiakki. So you'd love them probably.
Candies are better than the drink. The liqueur is supposed to taste like the candies, but no. Horrible.. Try the candies and you’ll know what i mean.
