  • Join us on a deep dive into the world of capacitors and sound profiles as we compare two similar yet distinct Nakamichi decks: the DR-1 and DR-2. This video is a unique opportunity for audio enthusiasts to see how different capacitor choices can influence a deck's sound characteristics.
    In the Comparison:
    🎵 The DR-1 Experience: Equipped with solid polymer capacitors, the Nakamichi DR-1 stuns with its linear response, delivering profound bass and crystal-clear highs.
    🎶 The DR-2 Sound: The DR-2, fitted with Nichicon capacitors, offers a warmer audio palette, though it presents a somewhat muddier soundstage and less defined highs.
    🔍 Analyzing the Audio: To aid in this sonic comparison, we've included an illustrative chart that visually represents the differences in sound profiles between the two decks.
    This video is not just about technical details; it's an exploration of how these small components shape the overall listening experience. Whether you prefer the clarity and precision of the DR-1 or the warm tones of the DR-2, this comparison will offer you insights into the nuanced world of high-fidelity audio.
    Tune in, compare the sounds, and share which sound profile resonates more with you in the comments. For audiophiles and music lovers alike, this is a comparison you won't want to miss.

      Check the bass at the end of the song, Nichicon is softer and not so deep

    Listening a couple times online and to the WAVs, I agree DR-2 is more warm and saturated and muddy, DR-1 is more clear and subdued. I feel like ordinarily I'd prefer DR-1, but sometimes I'd prefer DR-2 for certain kinds of music, it's like chocolate and vanilla ice cream, why wouldn't I want both? And there you have it, you can choose DR-1 or DR-2 for your music of the hour!

    To my ears, DR-1 has less cloudy low-mids (cleaner) and automatically it will be perceived as having better transparency and better separation. As a whole, it sounds great.

    hi, i make my research and its said that in the Nakamichi DR-1 and -2 when they go out of the factory they have electrolytic capacitors. Why you change it for Solid Polymer or Nichicon capacitors? its better sound ?

    • @hifirulezzz
      @hifirulezzz  5 месяцев назад

      Nichicon are electrolytes. Nakamichi has Nichicon installed from factory in DR-1/2. Just after 40 years electrolyte tends to dry out. Newly produced sounds better. And solid polymer has a superior performance parameters but way more expensive.

    I really liked this video and makes me wonder if I have to replace the 16 (I believe) capacitors for the Nichicons or the Kemets… Got a question, did you adjust the frequency response coils on both decks? Thanks for all. My deck is the DR-2.

    • @sc0or
      @sc0or 11 месяцев назад

      What are "frequency response coils"? If I'm not mistaken, the only coils in a path are bias filters. FR is set with constant elements according to an equalization curve. It's possible to adjust lows of course, but with a soldering iron.

      @@arturovillalpando289 I see what you mean. Yes, these coils make that equalization curve (by the way, Nak 68x makes no difference for SX/EX/ZX at that place and a thau is a constant for different tape types, but CR-1/2 does). But the curve itself must be a standard one. No tone board is expected in a cassette/r2r player actually -) May be it was set wrong by a previous owner. I'm a bit surprised to find an inductance as a part of an equalization (because of distortions it introduces), but this is Nakamichi. May be it's an essential ingredient of their recognizable sound. May be because of that people prefer to make records on Aiwas -)

    • @hifirulezzz
      @hifirulezzz  11 месяцев назад

      I did not adjust, as the record curve was flat on my charts. However, I mentioned that it get more flat on a higher recording levels. Check my charts in upgrade videos. I installed these caps in my Sony 555 both esA and esJ, SACD Sony player and MD recorder. This significantly improved clarity and made response linear. Check my chart at the beginning of the video. I recommend to listen this video on a good speakers or high quality headphones as bass on DR-1 now incredible. And highs go beyond what cassette decks are supposed to do. Someone may like more warm sound of the Nichicons, but for me they now sounds muddy.
