Nakamichi DR2 Made in Japan VS. Made in Taiwan
When Nakamichi started the production of the DR2 they were produced in Japan. Later the production moved to Taiwan.
On the left (or the first picture) the Made in Japan version and on the right (or second picture) the Made in Taiwan version. There are people who say that the Made in Japan version is better but as you can see there are no big differences. They also sound the same.

They are both essentially the same in terms of parts and build quality.

thank you so much for your video....i own a couple of Naks incl. the DR2 which is made in Taiwan. Good to see that the Japanese version has good film cpas around the dolby chips where the Taiwanese one has cheap S caps....your video confirmed my suspicion that the Taiwan ones use cheaper parts....will do a full recap on mine now...getting rid of the Chinese crap that is in this Japanese machine....
A good mod: change the two 220uF/6.3V caps on the PB Amp PCB to 470uF/16V, this will improve bass response significantly and the sound will be much more balanced.

The Japan build is neater, even down to sticking the labels on. Does this attention to detail affect the sound? Probably not. Will it prove more reliable?...maybe.

Different motors. Japan has Sankyo.

@@bestopinion9257 the other one is also Sankyo, they just removed/rebadged the motor..same motor...these transports are known as Sankyo transports also use in Onkyo Integra decks

So what's the difference? You'd need a double blind listening test to figure out if there's an audible difference in quality.

At this price segment there will be minimum difference.. talk about hi end. there will be a day night difference between the components used and build quality.. Japan being the best.
