Interesting history to this one. Read the description for details. Apologies in advance for any of the Welsh mispronunciations. Hope you enjoy this "twofer".

Such a lovely & eloquent description. Wish I could join the membership further discussion. My financial situ keeps me from having monthly payments, however, I give thumbs, comments & “thanks” as I can. You definitely deserve all the kudos! Blessings to you & laughs to the haters who haven’t a sense of humor. 🖤📚📖

What a graceful writer. I loved both stories, although the story behind them was immensely sad.
I'm halfway through reading the second book in the Regeneration trilogy by the way... isn't it sad that we never learn from the past? Maybe all politicians should be made to read all war literature and poetry as part of an entrance exam into politics.
Beautifully read as always; I'm part Welsh and your pronunciation and accent was on par ❤

@@thehangingparsiple5692The politicians are just representatives of large financial interests, i.e., very wealthy families.

@@ProleCenterAgree. And war is a big money spinner.
I wonder sometimes if it all becomes a game to them. Up there in their ivory towers, cushioned from reality by wealth and power, it must all seem like a game of chess

I was deeply moved by the reading of The Bowmen, Machen was a consummate artist indeed... and Out of the Earth is an excellent example of his craft in subtle understatement and suggestion! Thank you for these riveting recordings.

    Another excellent presentation, thanks Jasper.
A war story quite apt for we in the Southern Hemisphere with ANZAC day on Thursday.
As a former archer in acre-enactment company, the battle of Agincourt is well known to me.
I know what even 50 arrows flying over your head sounds like. Scary but wonderful like a flock of starlings flying low over you.
Out of the Earth, is particularly disturbing as it is alludes the corruption of children, and malicious gossip.
It seems that we are so much more unnerved when little ones commit heinous crimes. ( For example a certain John Venables and co).
    Very dark stuff.
From dark to light to dark again.
    👍🖤🖤🖤

    Fantastic stories and narration!
Machen was a heck of a writer. "Out of the Earth" is a bit eerie and creepy!
These stories exude excellence, as does your narration!
    Thanks!

Wonderful stories from the great Arthur Machen. The Bowman was perfect for St George’s Day and very moving.I love your sound effects too, very subtle and well chosen.Machen grew up in the area that the second story is set.A place steeped in history and settled by the Romans. He was a fervent believer in the supernatural and had a genuine belief in beings that inhabited the area from time immemorial.Edit: Machen has many admirers , his books are still in print. There is also an Arthur Machen Appreciation Society that meets at least once a year for dinner and talks.Descendants of this great writer also attend.

Beautiful and moving, both. Wonderfully narrated as always.
I hate it when a story touches something essentially authentic within my self that I've been trying to murder for ever so long as it is the fountain of grief and sorrow in this world.
As always, I speak only for myself.
Now I'm all philosophical and junk, just at bedtime, too. Thanks a bunch, Jasper. 😉

Great choices. I remember being on holiday in south Wales (I think it was Caerleon) and looking over the road to spy a heritage plaque, which lead me to say, "Oh look, that's where Arthur Machen lived!"

"The Bowman" was recounted in places as a real event despite Machen going on record saying it was fiction.

Can I expect some singing again?! Loved your "singing in the rain" in Kecksies. I half expected the "scream" mandrake is said to make though I know not the same plant- I want to remark on how you can emulate an American woman without sounding - how to say it with political correctness- no effeminate, falsetto- did you attend RADA- you are SO TALENTED IN MANY AREAS- I'll leave off and get my shroud, ie Victorian nightie on...Sweet dreams

Most people not only do not learn critical thinking, they refuse to learn any kind of discernment in what they hear. Facts are whatever they believe them to be and are upset when their beliefs are not taken as fact by others.
