@Reece A regardless they can make the conversion seem more natural. When its a seller that has no idea what they have it makes scene, but with someone like this, its breaks the illusion of watching a reality television.

the rifles were easily adapted to fire metallic cartridges.
When the metallica cartridge came along pretty much all of these were converted by a gunsmith to shoot a cartridge instead. It involved putting a barrel insert to reduce the caliber down to .45 and some other operation on the receiver.
@@GuitarGunner Sharps rifle company was contracted by the ordinance department in 1867 to convert 31,000 government rifles to .50-70 government. not .45 caliber.

I guarantee the price was negotiated and agreed upon before they drove three hours to get it.

He bullshitted his way buying a guitar that belonged to Mary Ford. Told the guy it needed to go auction. Call Joe Bonamassa, Slash, Rick Nielsen, or even Richard Gere who collects guitars. It would be done in a second.

@@artheriford Rick Nelson died in December of 1985. Richard Gere auctioned off his entire guitar collection in 2011.
When you go to a pawn shop you expect 50 cents on the dollar, when a pawn shop goes to a retail outlet you better expect to pay retail price.

30 years ago, I would have said that Rick could get more in Vegas, so a seller's price would be a buyer's price. With the internet, that's no longer the case.

The henry was basically the minigun
An assault rifle need to have power and usefulness but it’s main point is that it has to be readily mass produced. The Henry was rare and expensive, and couldn’t be produced as fast or as cheap as the sharps. Only high ranking officers would have something like a Henry
@Custis Long Henry rifle was around that time but just like kiwi said its produced on small quantities so its rare but it would make its way to American Wild West as Winchester rifle

...the explosive was likely Tannerite, which for the most part can only be detonated by a high velocity projectile.

Look closely when he loads it. The Sharps has been converted to shoot center fire brass cartridges. It is NOT in original condition. It should be using paper cartridges. That drops the price drastically.

Yep I picked up on that one too but remember that in 1867 roughly 60,000 were converted to metallic cartridge for continued use by the Army.
The Sharps Rifle and Carbine (Models 1848 to 1881) were chambered for the . 50-90 Sharps cartidge (0.52in caliber/bore).
Wish Sean was around still. Best firearms expert on the show.

That was clearly using a metallic cartridge. It's either been converted or it was an 1874 model. The 1863 used, as Rick mentioned, a combustible, paper cartridge with a separate percussion cap.

It's a conversion. It still had the old pellet automatic priming system in place.
I love how the owner wanted $2,500 and said if you find the right person they’ll pay it. Rick goes $1,900 and the owner goes deal. Lol

I love those old revolvers in the showcase. They remind me of the Clint Eastwood movies where he takes out the revolver to reload ammo or exchanges the barrel. Those clicky noises are addictive to listen to!

For anyone curious: The explosive target is probably Tannerite. You can buy the 2 powders to mix together yourself at home. Its extremely stable and safe. You can only set it off with a shock-like force, such as a bullet.
Edit: I just saw the Star Reactive Targets label on the jar.

Buford's Cavalry at Gettysburg were not only using Sharps, but Stars and Burnside Carbines. By 1864, Union Cavalry was using 7 Shot Spencer Repeating Carbines..

Contrary to popular belief, the Cavalry did not fight with the Carbine when mounted, but dismounted in whatever formation was ordered. Generally, every 4th man held the horses in reserve to the rear of such formation.

Used to be a dream of mine to have one, Sharps rifle with long barrel, not this Carbine version. Preferable the 1874 model in caliber .45-110.

The USMC gunny instructor at fort AP Hill had a couple of sharps and Winchester’s for us to shoot during a visit from the UK. More fun than the modern rifles.

Why do supposedly intelligent people say 'cash money' ? Selling my boat last year a man makes me an offer and says 'cash money'. I said, "well I dont take checks, monopoly money, nor do I finance, so I'm assuming what you plan to use is cash money." He got insulted and left. Oh well. I just dont really understand that statement when its used in negotiations.
Well others could take payment in cheques, wire transfer, crypto or even gold. Cash is used to negotiated because it's a currency that you don't have to wait to spend. Most are more likely to jump at an offer of 10grand cash right here and now. Rather than yeah that cheque should clear next week ect
