- On a cool April morning we headed to the Grassy Ridge Bald in Pisgah National Forest. This hike starts at Carvers Gap and follows the Appalachian Trail as it straddles the Tennessee-North Carolina border through the Roan Mountain range.
Unlike many of the forest covered areas within the Blue Ridge Mountains, this hike takes you through the longest bald the region has to offer. The views are spectacular as they give you a feel of the Swiss Alps right here in the United States. To get there, you will travel the "Grassy Ridge Bald via Appalachian Trail," which is a moderate 5 mile out-and-back hike that gains 1,079 feet in elevation to a 6,165-foot summit at the bald.

I mean little Switzerland is nearby so the title is correct
Sure hope to get there one day. Not sure I can make the hike but the views are great.
In the right weather, it is fairly modest. You don't even need to hike that far to get good views. Within the first half-mile you get some breathtaking scenery. I do hope you get the chance to experience it. Thanks for leaving a comment.
