Cow Fights In A Moose Rut Pit!
Here is yet another, close up and personal view/experience of the moose rut pit antics. When the bull digs his pit and urinates in it, the pheromonal allure to the cows is impossible to ignore. It pretty much drives them wild. Not with passion; with the need to roll around in that smelly mud! They fight each other off to wallow and stomp in it, caring nothing about the bull, who stands by dejected, watching all those many cows coming in from every direction to fight for a chance to roll around in the mud he created.
It's a funny and wild part of the moose rut. As you see, we always have a tree ( several) nearby, and we shoot with long lenses, because it can get hairy/dangerous at times. But what a riot! Enjoy! Subscribe! Join the fun!

First time seeing a moose cow (cat) fight.
Fun stuff, isn't it? And you have to watch your back when they start coming in for the pit action. We always have trees nearby for cover. Things can get really crazy. Thanks for watching.

The girls just kept coming out of the woods. This looks like a healthy herd in the North. Can you imagine a monster bull in that area, he'd probably have 10 or 12 cows chasing him. He'd be weak just from all the mating. What a great situation to be in, huh.

I noticed your company is located in NH. But I assume you are filming in AK, am I correct?
You are correct. We go to Alaska for moose since we can't get them predictably in front of our lenses here once they are in hard rack. We do get them in the spring/summer when they feed in the ponds/lakes, but after that it's a needle/haystack deal...
I lived in Peterborough for a couple years and lived in So. Vermont for a few more. I would see them on occasion. The terrain in the videos looks like AK. Thanks for all videos, keep them coming.

Silly cows,, fighting over warm stinky pee. Lmao that first dominate cow is really irritated at him being so tired. She just wants him to get the job done.
Believe it or not the cows aren't even ready for him yet. They just want to shove him out of the way for that rut pit/pee to wallow in. Too funny. They want to smell it on him and they rub wherever he smells like his own pee. Weird boy/girl stuff, no?
@Oldschool DOSfan Thanks very much. Cows will generally come into estrus the first cycle toward the end of September. They can also, if not caught for that cycle, actually cycle up to half a dozen (sometimes more) times after that if there are no bulls around. Rarely happens; they tend to get found!
