When Hedwig was killed it symbolizes the last of Harry’s Childhood
I was holding on, I wasn't sure if he had for sure been killed. that symbolization makes it all the more dark as the film rolls out. I can't imagine when I rewatch how different and more in depth will everything be
@@stefsolari What really got me was when Dumbledore died, Fawkes sings his last lament to Dumbeldore flying away from Hogwarts forever. There were a couple of us in tears in the theatre when we heard the song b/c i we all read the book already.

You asked why they weren't jumping at the chance to give Voldemort their wand. It's because a wizard's wand is like an extension of themselves. The wand learns from them and they learn from the wand. They become connected. The book describes it as if he was asking them to remove one of their arms.

@@stefsolari Definitely worth reading. The movies have to get across so much info in so much less time and sometimes it just doesn't happen. I'm reading the series for at least the 5th or 6th time now as I read them to my son. We just finished reading and then watching Half Blood Prince. He was crying so much at the end. As was I. 😆
All true, and basically, without a wand, they are helpless. They cannot defend themselves and, further, they cannot do dark magic, which means they are useless to Voldemort, and therefore expendable. Not a good place to be if you are a Death Eater.

Hermione wipes her parents memories so that the Death Eaters and Voldemort have no reason to go after and attack them. She fears they will capture and torture her parents to try and find her (to get to Harry) and she thinks they will have no reason to go after her parents, if her parents do not even know she exists. :(

@@stefsolari Totally! Ron and his brothers dressed a Ghoul as Ron to tell the Ministry (Death Eaters) that he is sick in case they wondered why he didnt show up to his last school year. That shows how much they were willing to sacrifice to help Harry. 100% Loyalty

Taking another person's wand, especially from a male, is also metaphorical to emasculation. Take away a mans wand and you take away his manhood. Lucious was one of Voldemort's most loyal followers back in the day but since he returned, and Lucious failed to retrieve the prophecy in Order of the Phoenix, he has essentially been demoted and shamed. This shaming is also why Draco was given the task of killing Dumbledore; to correct his father's failures and reclaim esteem for the family name, otherwise Voldemort would kill them all.
Fun fact: the actress playing Mafilda Hopkirk, that Hermione turned into, is Sophie Thompson, the real life sister of Emma Thompson (professorTrelawney)

The ministry IS under Voldemorts control. That guy at the beginning (Pilas) was a ministry official poised to take over, and was put under the imperious curse by Voldy. Shame they glossed over this in the movies bc it’s pretty confusing like you said.

Yeah, the only time they mentioned something about it from what I remember was at the meeting when Snape says those closest to Harry seem to believe that they took over the ministry and one of them laughs saying they were right but it seemed he had an underlying tone; I didn't know how to take it after the "joke". As the movie continues, it gets easier to distinguish but yeah, it was a little confusing at first

The eye on the door of Umbridges Office is the magic one from Mad-Eye Moody. In the books Harry takes it off the door. That was the moment the people in the Ministry knew something wasnt right..
I don’t think they properly explain it in the movies, but basically how those two Death Eaters found them in the coffee shop was because there was a curse or something (I haven’t read the books in a while) placed on the name “Voldemort”. So basically any time his name is spoken the Death Eaters are alerted and they can go to wherever it was spoken. It was a way for him to sus out and find people opposing him, because in reality almost nobody uses that name (hence everyone calling him “you know who”, “he who just not be named”, etc). So Voldemort knows that anyone that uses his actual name can be seen as threats to him and his followers
She will be completely devastated by the end of this movie series

This movie helped show how strong house elves are - which begs the question, why do they seem to be so low on the hierarchy in the wizarding world?
Hermione as a Potter close friend is a target of interest ans as her parents are Muggles, so are they. She's protecting them by modifying their memory and sending them to Australia, until she eventually comes back to undo the change herself. It's also one less thing for her to worry about, lowering her mental load quite a bit to concentrate on the task ahead.
The Dursleys are extracted by the Order of the Phoenix to avoid them been taken into a cross fire during the Potters escape because the house will eventually be attacked.
Death Eaters are more terrified by Voldemort than anything else. Also, giving uo their wand to him as they kidnapped the only wandmaker in the UK would be remaining naked in a combat...
Draco was forced into the Death Eaters cult in punishement for his father's tailure regarding the Prophecy.
The Trace is exacly why underage wizards can't do magic on their own outside of school especially if surrounded by Muggles.
An ambush was extremely likely if not totally probable...
The Weasleys house (The Burrow) never burned up in the books. The 6 movie added that to wake up the audience from the boring experience of the movie.
Voldemort doesn't gain magical power but he gains political influence... As for his soul, it doesn't diminish his magical prowess it seems. His vanity IS his weakness first and foremost.
Mundungus was supposed to be seen in the fifth story when the Order cleaned Sirius house to make it comfortable. The locket was there !!! Under their nose before they casted it aside to be dumped. Mundungus, a thief/parasite whatever decided to take it to make some money out of it until he was later intercepted by... Umbridge.
The infiltraded Minister, Pius Thicknesse is under the Imperious Curse. Umbridge might not know for whom she really works.
The Eye on the Umbridge's office door is Mad Eye's magical eye, they took it from his corpse after killing him.
The Dementors were out of Umbridge's cat Patronus radius (until she was knocked out) so they didn't feel Harry's presence until then.
At the end of Order of the Phoenix, Umbridge was put unter an inquiry. Rufus Scrimgeour replaced Cornelius as Minister who was dismissed for incompetence. In Half Blood Prince, not in the movie, Rufus tried to recruit Harry into the Ministry's private circle so he could be seen by the media vouching for what they did but he refused.
In Deathly Hallows, Death Eaters kill Rufus and put the puppet Pius in his place and promote Umbridge.
Honestly, the way Hedwig died in the movie is better than the book, at least in the movie she went out fighting instead of being crispied while defenseless in her cage,
If you read the books been there Hermione explained that the reason why she did it and she told her parents everything about Harry so to protect Harry Andrew parents feel liberated their memories and then had them moved to Australia where she was going to find them after the battle and hopefully restore their memories
23:26 - he never uses the phrase "I must not tell lies" in any of the books. This and The Order of The Phoenix when the centaurs sieze Dolores are two of of those places where the films are actually better than the books.

Hedwig knew Harry the 2nd longest after Hagrid.
All those bad times being neglected and abused by the Dursley's, Hedwig was Harry's one and only friend.
She was also his method of sending messages to Sirius Black and his friends.
Harry Potter had a very special relationship with Hedwig, not only that but she was the most unique owl at Hogwarts and the smartest.
Fun fact: Domhnall Gleeson(Bill Weasley) and Brendon Gleeson(Mad-Eye Moody) are father and son. Bill's line about Mad-Eye at the Burrow hits differently knowing this.
Giving your wand would be like just handing over your personal laptop (that you've had and used for years) to your boss just because he needs one for his year-long business trip...
You should see the scene were Dudley shakes Harry's hand. It's on RUclips. They should not have cut that scene out.

Adding my comments for the couple minutes I was away during the premiere here. :)
The other ironic part of the point about Muggles and Magic blood being mixed is Voldemort is also a half-blood.
Underage wizardry. If you remember from the start of Order of the Phoenix, the Ministry knew that HP used the Patronus Charm in the presence of a muggle. So ya until they turn 17 and become an "adult", any magic is detected. So he can practice magic outside the view of muggles, but in their presence is forbidden and the Ministry can detect it. And there are spies within the Ministry who can report his whereabouts to the death eaters and Voldemort.
Wand: you'll learn more about "wand lore" in part 2.
small spoiler: the spell that cursed George was Snape using his spell the Sectumsempra Curse (what Harry learned from Snapes potions book that he used against Malfoy without knowing what it did) which was a "misfire".
The fact about voldemort hating half bloods and being one, is I think another parallel to him being like Hitler. Hitler thought the Arians (blonde hair and blue eyes) were the master race, yet he had brown eyes and hair. Other parallels are there with the extreme dictatorship, taking over government, Death Eaters/SS followers, being power hungry, killing anyone who doesn't fit the same values, being very smart by spreading misinformation and turning people against others, making it seems like "mudbloods" are a different species and convincing people to turn them over via this manipulation/imperius curse

Something worth noting is that while Umbridge is terribly evil, she was never actually a death eater. Along with most of the people working at the ministry when Voldemort's supporters infiltrated it, she went to whatever side they believed would keep her safe from persecution, which in this case was Voldemort's side. But she was never actually a death eater.

@Stef Solari no problem! It's not explained super well in the books either but the later books do go more in depth about voldemorts takeover of the ministry and how he can control people (either by manipulation until they agree to help him or by force)

We don't really learn much about Albus Dumbledore's back story and Voldemort's back story until the last two books/movies. In book 6 (the Half Blood Prince) we all finally learn a lot more about Voldemort's past. In book 7 (movies 7 & 8) we finally learn a lot more about Albus Dumbledore's past. The books obviously more about them in the books than the movies. I would really like to know what you think of the books, once you've read them.

A wands allegiance can only be won in combat to make it switch allegiance.
I mean, Voldemort can force a wand like Lucius' to do his bidding and you can borrow a friend's wand for most simple magical needs, but you're generally right. You can't get 100% of the wand to change allegiance if it doesn't want to.
it's HAllows, not hollow's like a log without the middle.... i like the audiobooks, I got both versions, the ones narated by Jim Dale (US edition) and the ones narated by Stephen Fry (UK Edition)

Voldemort and the Death Eaters attacked and took over the Ministry of Magic (that was what happened the night of the wedding when Harry, Ron and Hermione had to go underground to escape). All the people running the Ministry now are his stooges or under the imperious curse. Since she was already evil, Professor Toad-Face apparently found that her views aligned with Voldemort's and signed on for the fascism. In fact, she seems to think it was a good career move.

Hermione wiped her parents memories and made them believe that their one dream in life was to move to Australia (?), and so they left pretty much immediately- I’m pretty sure there’s a deleted scene where Yaxley and some death eaters burst into her parents now completely empty and unfurnished house, not able to find them
To lose a wand is like losing a part of yourself, it’s like an extension of yourself- not only that, imagine if it was YOUR wand that failed the Dark Lord 😭
RIP Hedwig- she was there for Harry since he was 11 😭

I never understood how wiping your parents memory of you would protect them.
Your parents can be used as leverage regardless if they remember you or not. It is your love for them, not their love for you, that enables the enemy to manipulate you.
As far as information goes, dont tell them anything you dont want the enemy knowing. And dont rely on information they knew. Shouldnt be a problem.
As I understand it, in the books Hermione used a different type of spell, and was able to give her parents their memories back after the defeat of Voldemort. In the movies, however, the spell she used has no reversal.
