- Matt Jacobson is the type of guy who doesn't need to live in Silicon Valley with the rest of his world - he is the head of Market Development for Facebook - or in Beverly Hills with the other men of means; he'd prefer to live in a Ray Kappe-designed home on the water in Manhattan Beach - the type of home you might, and actually did, see in Dwell Magazine. To put it simply, Matt Jacobson's life isn't about excess - it's an expertly calculated equation that suits him and him alone just perfectly. His watch collection follows suit. This is Talking Watches with Matt Jacobson. For more, go to www.hodinkee.co...
This is in my opinion, the best Talking Watches guest ever. He's a collector who doesn't have to have everything but the ones that truly make him happy and serve a purpose.
What a thoughtful and tasteful collector! He could own anything, his level of restraint to keep just the very best is considerable.
Couldn't agree more! Seems like a very down-to-earth, real sort of guy. I have to say, though, being that the water is such an important part of his life, I was surprised the word "Panerai" never came up in his chat :-)
one in, one out ... how modest and humble he is, self control is over everything
Hands down my favorite collection and approach to collecting showcased on this series!
One of the most balanced and well chosen watch collection around Talking watches!
i love how simple his collection is and i also agreed with him when he said that he doesn't need to own a whole punch of watches which is right because i often see a lot of watch collectors that own over 100+ watches which is insane. great video
A man content is a man well lived.
That Sub on beige nato strap is just outstanding!! Love the Daytona too!!
Still my favourite talking watches episode
He really does talk like a man who slayed all of his dragons. Congratulations, Sir.
Content collectors are a rare specie
Talking watches with Ben Clymer needs to be the next episode.

Yes, I know this video... but we need a talking watches episode
Hodinkee, we are almost in 2024. You need to do an update with this guys collection!
Cheers!
Beautiful collection. A true watch lover.
This is a really nice collection, they're unique and old but the kind of watches you'd actually wear instead of just put in case. Lotta flavor here
The best watch currator they've had on talking watches
This is a super high quality collection, oozes good taste
Just rewatched, what a fantastic episode
Non, that Cartier had to be an inspiration from the clocks and things that Salvador Dali painted etc?
+Tomasina Covell Yes, i think that too. I find the story about the car crash pretty stupid and probably fake.
@@valebliz Right! And WTF would a guy as wealthy as god even have to consider giving up his vintage red-sub in order to "make-way" for a vintage mil-sub, such silly, unbelievable, BS?
Such a great episode. I love that he doesn’t need more examples of the same watch.
I'm obsessed with this collection.
Wow. That Rolex with the tropical dial and brown leather strap is stunning. Perfect matching patinas.
He has got an excellent timepiece. Few but the best ones.
GREAT EPISODE GUYS!!! Find this one refreshing after "Pras" tasteless collection
Thanks!
Why did you think his was tasteless though?
111thomas1111 I thought he had nice watches, but it's understandable, his watches were mostly "blingy" APs and Pateks
Daníel Guðmundsson I get what you are saying, but i wouldn't call it tasteless though. Maybe boring and modern or something.
I wouldn't call it tasteless either, I just understand why he might do it
Vulgar?
"I don't need to own five Daytonas". Very controversial statement. You could argue it's causing the supply issues, currently and not Rolex, but I digress...
Nice collection. Rolex and Patek. Two great brands that always hold their value.
Great interview of a clever guy. Appreciated his take on Instagram too.
A gorgeous collection not to mention the Raymond Pettibon drawings in the background.
Beautiful, eclectic pieces. Not your average collection.
so the beta 21 is quartz? that movement looks so smooth and immaculate.
awesome dude - humble.
nice to see how he does actually stop buying tons of watches and holding all the models and versions of each watch he likes... because he could
Super sweet set of watches.
that white gold patek is the one.
Solid Pettibon collection in the background.
Great one, many thanks.
One note on pronunciation cuz it bugs me.
paddock =
noun
A small field or enclosure where horses are kept or exercised.
Patek =
The first name of the watch brand Patek Philippe SA, named in part after Antoni Norbert Patek (French: Antoine Norbert de Patek; 14 June 1812 - 1 March 1877) who was a Polish pioneer in watchmaking and a creator of the Patek Philippe & Co., one of the most famous Swiss watchmaker companies.
Patek = Pa Tech
Try it out, feels good...
absolutely love the Cartier crash
One of my favourites. All great stuff, nicely curated into a small collection
Hodinkee, as always, great session. BUT, where are Talking Watches with successful women enthusiasts?
Another great episode.
love this episode. humble and very cool
The best collection
*Perfect collection
Solid Video! love the dial on that Rolex.
Love the series.
I love this series.I wish you could speak to Stallone, and Arnold about their multimillion dollar collection and taste.
Really enjoyed this episode! Thanks for sharing :)
That Patek 3448 is immaculate. Probably worth 150k plus.
The two Pateks with the quartz movement, how could they have creeping seconds hands?
I want to see more of this content :))
Relax guy and great Pateks the gold one i like much
You guys need to get in touch with Jay Leno and his collection!
Wow that cartier!
Who makes that leather pad he is displaying on?
same people that made his leather anklet.
Jeffrey Koenig hermes
Hermes
Every time I watch one of these I pay more attention to what Ben's wearing
I love these videos. Cheers.
what kind of bracelet is that hes wearing?
No subtitles why?
0.44- Ben couldn't take his eyes off the watches :P
Very nice collection, but I'm not a fan of his strap taste... Except for the double red SD combo, it's very nice indeed. 👌🙌⌚️
Haha he's got the little LV box like Archie Luxury
Wait those beta 21s had sweeping second hands? The Rolex Oysterquartz had a ticking hand?
i was more focused on ben's gold daytona
Another Rolex and Patek "collection". WOW so fucking unique....
About Instagram: "take great photography and blend it with technology in a meaningful way" smfh
For someone running the marketing department for Facebook, this guy sure uses the word "beautiful " a lot.
Where did he got that light greenish nato that was on the sub?
Do you mean the yellow/beige 3-ring nato? I'm curious as well.
@@slownoah423 Yup that one
Very nice
cool that he actually bought that double red from the original dealer
Hahaha “I got out of high school and bought myself a sub.” with whose money?
Well he did mention he got the sub for $200-$300.
classy guy!!
Who would have thought that Paul Newman Rolex.....or the Daytona they call the "Paul Newman" would have increased in value like that.
Damn that 5517!
Anyone else get disoriented looking at the Cartier watch? Hehe
No GMT watch?
That patina on the Leica M9 looks almost fake haha, if its real then that's one sexy M9 good ser
Wow, that 2526 :O
Great video. Great collector! But ''the kind of wabisabi of watches and things being worn and used'' ?! Hahahaha. That's the first time I have heard that appropriation of Japanese culture. Bravo.
i dont understand when he said he dont understand how the brcelet was made on the patek philipe.? they make the mold of the bracelet and they stamp holes in it lol no very genius
You f&*king kidding me, let the Comex go???
Sam Zhang I know right! What self control and such loss!
that milsub is more expensive
A Rolex. How original.
Dry. The watches and the man.Just Dry. The cartier has some soul, thats about it.
A lot of these collectors have the same watches... gets a bit boring to watch the same thing.
That Cartier... Dali-esque
Anyone see their comments show up on Ben's IG screen grabs!?!? = D
Great collection. Guys got the personality of a potatoe.
Rolex daytona is just a bunch of watch collectors lining up and b/Pumping each other in a long queue.
yo
Oh, that 3448! Be still my beating heart.
They should be able to pronounce the watches they own.
This dude needs to put on some socks
Let’s me guess... more Rolex? 🥱
The most posh surfer dude youll see.
Double red sea-dweller...drool
I don't want to sound negative, I would just love to see a collection without a Rolex.
So boring , anytime Rolex and Patek I'm not interested . I would be more interested in unknow brands , even not pricey like heritage Atlantic , Alpina , Ruhla etc
Ben, love your interviews, you should try a nice fresh up do, maybe a haircut, some product on the hair, and maybe go down a size on your shirts. You are one classy dude but you dress older than your guest and all of them are twice your age.
"My first watch was a Rolex Sub..." skip.
hahahaha
You're just jealous cause you can't afford one
Minutes Of Wisdom lighten up
Sounds like ignorance. Rolex was not as hyped in the 70s or early 80s. Subs used to be cheap, so were GMTs and Daytonas.
@@petestowne they werent cheap, but they were indeed affordable to the average first world citizen. My uncle, which had a nice life but wasnt rich, had several speedmasters. He bought them new and after a few years he gave them to his kids or just left them on a drawer. Imagine an average person today spending thousands of dollars every 4 or 5 five years in brand new speedmasters.
He's pretty cold for a billionaire.
Rolex is over hyped
so boring! collectors collecting patek and rolex, such a shame.
