- On New Year's Eve 2023, Noel Gallagher released his new demo 'In A Little While'. Then, on Jan 5th 2024, Liam Gallagher & John Squire released the first track from their latest collaboration, 'Just Another Rainbow'.
This is what I think of both...

What if that heavy guitar based Noel album IS the next Oasis album? Apparently Glasto 25 headliners are being kept secret and a well known UK band have allegedly booked Knebworth for 'reunion' shows in summer 25. By the time Liam and Noels solo runs come to an end we will be roughly at Summer 25. One can hope.
Think I'll just pin this... I share this hope
This would call for a trip to the UK from me. I never got to see Oasis when they were touring the U.S. back in the day but I'd make a pilgrimage to Knebworth to see a reunion concert. That said, I just don't think it's ever going to happen. But I love the rumor mill so I'll always keep hoping that the two idiots can bury the hatchet and do what the people want.
@@joeterzio7175 One of the major obstacles to the reunion is no longer in the picture. It's rumoured that Noel left oasis under orders of his wife, who hated Liam. Noel and Sara are no longer married, and divorces ain't cheap.
@@MKYCmusic Yes, I know about the ex-wife so that impediment is gone. And Noel was also angry that Liam sort of brought his daughter Anais into the feud but she and Liam's kids were spotted together on good terms recently for a fashion show in Manchester. Also, I've noticed that Noel doesn't insult Liam publicly nearly as much as he used to and has praised him on occasion for his role in Oasis, etc. Refers to him as Liam sometimes instead of "the tambourine player" or just RKid. So, fingers crossed -- hopeful signs.
@@JamesHargreavesGuitar Stop it with the Oasis reunion, guys, it's not gonna happen. It's silly and childish now to keep on hoping. Get over it, move on. And even if it happens, it's gonna be a disappointment. They had their moment, it's long gone now. Appreciate both of them separately now.

Liam sounds great and Squire's riffing is cool. Decent track - much better than 90% of modern chart music. Well done!
4:26 It's funny, I really loved "Who Built The Moon?" It was refreshingly different from Noel's usual stuff and was very reminiscent of Ian Brown, who I adore.
I think general music lovers appreciated WBTM more than general Oasis fans. It was more interesting to my ears than his other solo albums, I’d love Noel to do more of the same.
Moon is a very interesting record, may even be worth James doing one of his notorious 'deep dives' on it in the future
This new demo from Noel is just beautiful in every sense of the word. You always know you're onto a winner when it stands alone acoustically and not feel like it's lacking something, and this is exactly that. All the right notes, all the right words, the piano is just barely in there backing up the guitar and whatever that reverby texture underneath is? Plenty of spaces for it to breathe too which is refreshing!

"Just Another Rainbow" is a classical rock anthem that will prove itself absolutely monumental played live. Crowds are guaranteed to join Liam's voice in thousands. Studio version is a real treasure too. Refined and weighed, yet heavy and rough. Thank you for your review. I really enjoyed it.

Whenever i hear the colours bit i just think of the beatles and its all ok. If lennon had sang through the colours of the rainbow in lucy in the sky with diamonds no one would've batted an eyelid.
The songs ok. More than anything its nice to hear John Squires guitar playing again and that stone roses sound.

I'd pre-ordered blind to just to keep my Squire collection complete (I've never bought a Liam solo single or album!). Soundwise you're spot on - very much a combo of the 2 Roses phases plus a bit of Seahorses thrown in. Liam sounds as you'd expect.. but all in all I'm very happy that Squire is back making and releasing music.

Shite! Haha no I think it’s brilliant, like you said I laughed the first time when I heard the refrain but it fits in well actually. The song is a mix between tomorrow never knows and waterfall. Ordered my 7 inch from Liams website so looking forward to seeing what happens in the charts and to the album in the near future - keep up the great videos James

you are absolutely right, the song is a grower, must listen at least 4-5 times. Now I really love it, especially the solo is fantastic, and also Liam's vocals fit perfectly. I'm a huge Squire fan, can't wait for the album and a tour - my favourite guitarist is back!!

I think it’s a great track just purchased a copy on line, I’ll have to listen to the lyrics a few more times, but I always feel Liams vocal is another instrument and doesn’t really matter what he sings, and as for Squire’s guitar, just awesome

Both amazing songs, Liam's sounds just like raw 90s rock. But man, Noel's song is so moving... Btw, I admire a lot your work, and I hope that you would make a video about this new chord sequence that you have mentioned. Cheers from Brazil!
It's a great song, you know Squires song style no matter what song it is. He has his own style and it works on this. Great stuff.
Out of interest, is the artwork on the videos - ie at 1:37 - the incoherent, hardcore Stone Roses fan(Hi!), and the artwork in the thumbnail for your Smiths/Saville video - AI or do you do them yourself? They're very cool.

Here's my thoughts on "Just Another Rainbow" feel free to discuss 😊
To me the song (written by Squire) is all about his disappointment with the Roses Comeback post 2016.. becoming a treadmill (windmill gong through the motions on a fixed point) of the Greatest hits etc.
I hear it in the lyrics, But also in the Guitar Solo / instrumental ( it starts with a kind of 'Grand Build.Up / Opening", then a duel between light and heavy (showing the conflicts of personality in the band), which eventually fuses together, but then spins away again at the end, and ends with 7 very 'high pitched notes' (musical rainbow) and then Liam starts singing again.
That instrumental is telling the story of the Roses 2011-2018 ish .(to my ears)...I really like the way its done.
Also I think the rather odd choice of simply listing the Colours of the rainbow, then the next line is "We Crossed The Line" is makes me think Squire is saying that The Roses were kind of taking the mickey at the end, getting away with an almost satirically childish single (Awful One) and just playing the same old hits again and again in Football Stadiums.
On the first listen to Liam and John's single, when Liam sings "Just another Rainbow", it reminded me of The Rolling Stones singing "She's like a Rainbow". Each time i have heard that track, its just grown on me. An awesome track.
Is it original? No. Does it remind you of an A-Z of rock? Yes. But is it good? Man, I love it. I get Waterfall from the intro verse. Also very 60’s style production. If you got Lennon Liam vocal sound, the Doors, The Who, Hendrix style guitar tone mixed with the obvious Roses and Oasis unavoidable influence then that’s what I hear. I loved it. Sometimes you don’t need revolution. You just need that comfy familiar vibe as long as the song is good. It hits all the spots in music I love 👍🏴🎸
Absolutely love both songs!! My favourite album of Noel’s is Council Skies and think he’s at his peak singing and writing with this album. His new single is similar to that. Love hearing Liam paired up with Squire also. Very different songs but both fantastic!

'Just Another Rainbow' is the perfect combination of Liam's voice and Squire's lyrical nuance. Not to mention that the guitar is monumental. As a guitarist myself, I can't wait to start translating it.

Surprisingly it's pretty cool to dance while listening to "Just another rainbow" 😊 I love it's endless layers and texture.

Just Another Rainbow is great. I wasn't sure about the lyrics, but now knowing they're Squire written I can see his Dada/Surreal/Abstract artiness coming through. I'm a bit of a pretentious arty twat myself, so I can get behind them on that level.

"Just Another Rainbow"...the lyrics are interesting, the people that think they are too simplistic or nonsensical just don't get what makes music interesting. the part where Liam recites the colors of the rainbow is so wrong it's right and then a quick fill on guitar that sounds like NYC Indie Rock, massive emotional impact. it's a hit. super pro & super interesting
Crazy that "Stick Season" was released in 2022 and it's now the current no. 1 in the UK in 2024.

'Just Another Rainbow' sounds like 'Who Feels Love?' sang over the top of 'Up in the Sky' to me.

I really like it, it has Squire's fingerprints all over it (I can well understand it's not everyone's cup of tea though). I was a big fan of his solo albums too.

it reminded me of tunes like 'standing here' and 'daybreak'. A decent tune but it does feel like Liam singing unreleased roses songs rather than a collaboration or any sort of new sound.
My high school buddy had just stated on our group chat, “Rock is dead”. With the release of this song, Liam and John proved him wrong! 🌈😎
Squires tune - On first listen I was underwhelmed. Then I had it on loop when I went out for a run, adrenaline kicked in, and it’s now grown on me massively, sonic sounding and great riffs. Vocals really good too. It’s a tune to me.
I'm waiting for someone to AI Ian's voice on the track to see what it might have sounded like. One can only dream of those possibilities in reality and not just AI.
Why bother? Ian brown can only detract from this track with his crappy signing and douchy vibes

I don't mind the rainbow colour breakdown. It wasn't 'I can sing a rainbow...'red and yellow and pink and blue'. It was indigo violet. Much cooler.
John Squire's First Ever Number 1, hopefully
Squires songwriting on this appears to be like an artist making a collage. I wonder if he’s done that intentionally as a concept. You can hear lots of actual bits of Roses and Seahorses songs in there all mixed together and elements of Oasis and The Beatles thrown in. The effect on the guitar is very Seahorses. The riff is a variation of Waterfall. Bass like Probably All In The Mind. Drums are very Reni like. Sections of the solo are very like the outro solo of Resurrection. The guitar as the drums kick in seems to be backwards harking back to the Roses backwards tracks like Don’t Stop.
Squire/Gallagher song sounds similar to something from Ocean Colour Scenes first album….the one that sounded like Indie dance……I’ll have to dig it out for a listen….wonder if Gallagher watched your episode on The Sea Horses?🇳🇿🇬🇧

It’s a tune , great vocals great guitar everything what’s missing from modern music but your right on Noel too his music is amazing , I tried my best to get into the David Holmes phase but it’s just not what Noel does best although some of it grew on me, the new demo is fantastic

You should check out some of Andrew cushins acoustic tunes James this Noel track and chords sound very similar! I am aware that Noel produced one of his tracks and you can clearly hear Andrew’s material is inspired by Noel. I think Noel might have in turn “magpied” some of Andrew’s stuff
I initially thought it sounded like an AI mashup. The guitar is good, if not a little phoned in. It will probably sound good in a live situation where Liam and John can really crank it up. The drumming on this track is superb, for me it’s the highlight.
JAR my thoughts - yep one love sounding guitar with riff reminiscent of Reef's Put your hands up. For me the main vocal is too high in the mix and starts to wear after a bit. Ian Brown could get away with nonsense lyrics when they are buried in the mix, not in your face like this haha.
Cracking drums and bass, channelling Reni somewhat and late day Beatles on the bass id say.
Guitar solo is cool but could be more succinct I'd say. Also a bit high in the mix.
Overall i like it, just wish the vocals were a lot lower in the mix so it sound like a band playing not someone shouting in your ears at 4am in the morning.

Yeah to be fair the first time I heard the colors of the rainbow I laughed out loud but the second time I just vibed it. You might be right about the lyrical style harking back to the naivety of the old records you know.
I was instantly reminded of "Rain" by The Beatles and also Oasis "Up In The Sky", which also borrows from "Rain". I think "Up In The Sky" is a better song though. However liked the guitar playing on "Just Another Rainbow". The song itself is just okay in my opinion.
Yeah this tune is OK I've heard it 4 or 5 times now and it stuck in my head. It didn't blow me away though. It sounds like everything I've heard before.

I agree but had to give it more than 3 listens. At first I felt like it sounded like 3 sounds poorly mixed together but after maybe 20 listens it’s finally sounds like I’m sure it was supposed to be heard.
I hear Rain by the Beatles and some say it reminds them of Waterfall but to me it sounds a bit like the beginning of tears. I like the simplicity of the vocals and the rainbow 🌈 part… well it is what it is and makes it quite unique.. and there’s nothing wrong with that. I went from thinking it was a 7/10 to an 8/10

I hear some U2 "Even Better than the Real Thing" and the heavy guitar parts pay a tribute to Pete Townsend. Just Another Rainbow gets an A+ from me.

Why three times to fully appreciate? I don’t disagree just love to know your pov. My take depends on the artist, the first time to me it’s usually the greatest thing, will be usually till album release , but the test for me for a song, is how i feel about it a month later.
I dunno to be honest! That's the absolute bare minimum of how many times it takes me to give any song a fair hearing personally - but that's just me.
First time I heard 'Roll With It' I didn't like it. Second time, it grew on me. After the third time I went out and bought it!
I guess everyone's a bit different with how they access music - that's just how it works best for me tho 👍👍
