      I knew. I'm an empath and I remember feeling so much pain through her that it pissed me off at the caretakers in her life. I'm no longer mad but I really hope she had got the comfort and attention she deserved from her elders growing up.

    I know I'm 3 years late, but as a self harm survivor I gotta tell you it's real easy to hide from those who care about you. That emotional pain is so hard to deal with that the physical pain makes it easier and like they said it's more tangible and you can touch it, it's just a bad (and actually potentially addicting) coping mechanism and I think it needs to be talked about more because it's so prevalent in young people (not just girls) and the sooner the stigma is ended the easier it'll be to ask for help

    There's NO WAY that was her first time revealing that to her mom. I think they may have agreed to discuss this on camera. No way I would’ve been that calm, cool and collected if my baby told me that. But then again, not every person reacts the same. Just such a weird scene to me...

      It's possible that she said it, and they edited out a breakdown to not take away from the show. Maybe cried, collected themselves and continued. But I'm not sure, I don't think this is a live show.

      Even if it only helps one person, that’s enough. It was very helpful to me with my daughter. People in our society are sooooo terrified to speak the real. They want to only show all the glitter in their lives & never the rain. If we stop treating things like this as taboo or not to be talked about we might start to see a better generation for our kids.

You can tell she was debating/struggling on HOW and IF she should let out that secret of cutting herself. The flow and energy was there and I am very happy she was able to get that off her chest. I bet she feels a whole lot lighter in her heart, mind and spirit 💜

    Thank you Candice for upload. It doesn't surprise me that Willow went through an unfortunate "Dark Period" in her young adolescent. She is Extremely blessed to have such a strong Mother and Grandmother to not JUDGE her. She comes from an eccentric family and I'm sure there's high expectations. But in my own family I was not so lucky. As some of us, didn't have or come from similar backgrounds. I was taught crying shows sign of weakness( I know otherwise now) and my mother was ignorant to the fact of what happens in our house, stays in our house . Family secrets, became a generational Curse. Which caused much turmoil in my early 20's-30's.
    Through my faith I overcame a lot. And created my own New Family in which I was not born into, Who
    Became my safe place to grow, mature etc. This was a great Clip and goes to show, that we all have something, along this journey, which allows us to be able to be compassionate to others, because We Never know, when someone is on the edge of suicide, hurting themselves or others.🙏🙏🙏

    I actually appreciate the way jada and her mom responded. I feel like responding as a “parent or grandparent” like most people suggested will not give her the comfort to be open about her feelings. I don’t think they came off as friend you can even see jada crying but she was holding it in so her daughter could express herself freely. I loved the way they raised their children. Even though willow went through what she went through she still managed to handle her emotions accordingly without causing more harm to herself. Kudos to jada and will for being such great parents.

    I think the right time to tell someone is whenever you are ready. That may be the time that the person is ready to receive it. My oldest has sprung some heavy stuff on me at a time where I thought it wasn’t a good time, but then I realized that there really isn’t a perfect time. If we are already on the topic, and it is heavy on your heart...just let it out. I’d rather that than to never know.

    One of my twins went through something similar last month. I took her to the hospital and when the nurse asked how long she’s been contemplating suicide her reply was “since around 8 years old” her twin and I just broke down. Because everyone never even hinted a sign of that deep depression from her... it’s scary but with conversation my bf and I had those episodes as well growing up it was just swept under the rug so to say.

    Am I the only person uncomfortable with the clip of Willow telling her mom and grandmother about her cutting herself? I’m all for you trying to be your child’s friend but it seemed so odd that Jada and her mom reacted like friends as opposed to parent and grandparent. I’m not one to judge someone’s relationships but they reacted as if one of their friends were sharing a secret. Maybe this wasn’t new news to them and that explained their reaction. I don’t know, it all just seemed weird to me.

    • @flutterby8462
      @flutterby8462 6 лет назад +358

      Deuce Davis how would you prefer they reacted? I think their reaction was really good because it enabled willow to explain her feelings and tell them how she dealt with it. If they got angry or told her off etc... she would’ve closed off and probably felt like she wouldn’t be able to tell them anything else and they would never have understood what made her do it. Also I think what the lady said is wrong. Just because a family has a strong unit it doesn’t mean they don’t individually suffer or hide things from each other.

      I totally agree. I also feel like if Jada didn’t have such a laissez-faire parenting style with her children that she would’ve had some sort of inkling that her child was suffering. How do you not know that about your 10-year-old?

    The comments are really cringy. I wouldn’t put blame on the parents, it’s many people that struggle with many things and the parents have no idea. It’s not what JADA & WILL didn’t do, they did great as parents. But that just goes to show you can be the best parent in the world and your child can go through it. I hope we can stop shifting blame onto parents, they do the best they can. The fact that willow was open and honest is REALLY brave. #mentalhealthawarenessweek

      Thanks! It's unfortunate that Willow "went through" that, and she let herself be vulnerable, in an open forum. But, it's amazing how it has created a type of "Sizterhood"here in this comment section. I've read some .... "Courageous" stories. I also feel that at some level, Jada knew this, whether rehearsed or otherwise, because as a Mother, responding at that very moment, Willow said she cut herself, she/ grandma, didn't reach out and hugged her, cried with her, ask filming to stop, etc...to capture that "Powerful" response of pain she inflicted upon herself, and REALLY deal with it. Unless, her Parenting style is not of that level of nurturing. Parenting and Motherhood is variously different, to all of us. I know, I would have, "Shut IT DOWN" to address it differently.
      Thank you for taking the time to respond, either way. I wish you Much peace on your everyday of your Journey...💗🙌

      Are you close to their family? If not, you can't make the statement that they're such great parents. Just because they're well spoken, professional and also lovable on tv doesn't mean they're like that all the time or with their children... And please dont foolishly start saying I'm hating or put words in my mouth. I'm not saying Will and Jada are bad parents or that they have change who they are at home .... I don't know them well enough to make those claims! All I'm saying is you can't assume people are great parents or that the parent's aren't 'at fault' if you don't know what the household is like first hand.

    We recently learned my friend's HS daughter is cutting herself to deal with emotional pain. I think Willow and Jada put it in good terms: It's making the pain physical as opposed to just being emotional. I guess we all deal with pain/grief different... I didn't hurt my body externally... but I tend to abuse my body internally when I'm in pain or feeling anxiety. 😔🥀

    I use to burn and scratch myself in adolence. It was such a hard awkward time for me. And it did give a face to the deep emotional pain. I never knew anyone that did it. I'd never even heard of it. So it's just amazing how deep emotional pain tends to manifest itself outwardly in the same way in individuals whom may never have even heard of cutting..scratching or burning. To some now may have not been the right time for her to reveal it on camera like that. But there may be some little girl or some older woman or man that comes to grips with what they're doing to themselves and actually be helped by it. We generally are connected spiritually as human beings therefore the most seemingly random of things come up at what appears to be the most inopportune times however your audience pulls out of you what they need from you if that makes sense. So I hope if anyone is the reading my comment and you're possibly cutting yourself or burning yourself or scratching yourself or pulling your hair or pinching yourself. It's just an outward manifestation of some deep-rooted emotional issues that sooner rather than later you're going to have to deal with. And I pray that you find the peace and self-love that it takes to overcome such a horrible thing. I'm here today that was over 30 years ago that I did that so I'm a witness that prayer self-love and time can heal all wounds. And there are a lot of people who have deep-rooted emotional pain and may not manifest as cutting or burning or biting or pulling of hair but is manifesting through drugs sex gambling and the like. So may God help us all to be nicer to ourselves and kind to ourselves ourselves. When we really truly understand that concept there's no way that we can't be kind to ourselves as well as to others. God bless everyone on this post.

    Pk’s, celebrity kids, rich family kids, high authority kids are some of the most misunderstood children in my opinion. The world thinks their so happy and living the best life all bc of the money, special attention, fame, or high expectations bc of the family status . When secretly they’re some of the most depressed, unhappy, lost misunderstood children bc of status and expectations. Regardless of rich or poor , or family status kids must be kids and try to live as close to a normal life as they can according to their own family situation. I wouldn’t trade a day with a rich and famous, or preachers kid over my own normal comfortable life and lifestyle.

    I see a lot of people saying she shouldn't have told her mom on camera. We dont know the Smith Family. We dont know what's going on behind closed doors. We dont know why Willon felt comfort in front of the camera verses off camera. Honestly I always suspect something going on within that family. The children reflect it even without saying a word. Ask yourself why is she depressed as a child? Why is Jaden seeking attention too? Willow basically said last time that she wanted more attention from her mom and Gma. I understand depression. I have seen it several times. It doesn't always show up as someone who is say all the time. It you're not educated on it. You can miss the signs. My prayers are up for that whole family.

    I definitely understand where willow is coming from and I'm glad her mother and grandmother were asking questions and trying to understand where she was coming from rather than to bash her or show anger out of ignorance and confusion. That is a lot of reason why many young black girls don't tell their families about depression or self harm because it's either shoved under the rug and not taken seriously or there is judgement and punishment bc of it. Your kids are people too and their emotions and feelings you should embrace no matter what whether you understand or can relate or not.

    I've gone through some very low moment's in my life from having scars on the same arm as willow at the age of 13 year's old from seeing and thinking my father was dead from harming his self, turned out my father just had abandon me and he wasn't dead at all. My depression played a big role in my life so I can relate, I can relate from the cutting scars down to having one leg out the window talking myself down from jumping from the 18th floor. Those experiences along with others have taught me im better then that! Man I see my worth! My worth is so much more then the lesson I've gone through, so I take the lessons and just apply the knowledge to my personal life. Although I was the one behind these poor choices of harming myself to this day I can't imagine why I thought those people or experiences were worthy of my life, perfect or not. Im working on my spiritual self everyday, I will win the war and so will you. I pray to god for everyone else in these situation that you can understand yes there will be hard days in your life, death may seem like the solution to a temporary issue but it's far from the correct solution. You're special keep your head up and take that damage from what you went through and ware it as a honor, You're so strong guy's❤😘👍💯💯💯

    I’m glad for this post.. I come from a very churchy background where both my parents are pastors..
    In my teens I also went through heavy depression. I was indirectly bullied at school called all sorts of names. “Ugly duckling”, “halfmoon forehead” etc. I was also struggling with weight issues..
    My dad at the time was also going through his own issues and would lash out on us(he was very strict) so going through adolescence wasn’t easy because you can’t be moody all the time..
    Every other day I would write suicide notes and store it in my room.. until it was like a box full of these letters.. I remember the only thing I knew was to pray.. and I would cry and pray asking for this deep pain to stop.. (It was a heavy and deep pain)..
    I don’t know how the suicidal thoughts stopped. But one day it just stopped.. life became clearer for me and I guess my purpose became also clearer..
    My dad found all my letters and confessed on my 21 st birthday.. he said through my letters he got to understand me and he always prayed for me and was hurt for what I went through.. he promised himself to always be mindful of his children..
    During that time him and my mom really changed and always had my back and would always sit down and talk to us kids (find out what Head space we are in)... it’s so important to always check in on the headspace of a teen.. and emphasize to them that you are a unit.. and you are all that you have to each other..
    (Sorry for the essay)

    It is absolutely sad to know that this young lady went through such a dark period, I think this just teaches us as parents we have to talk more to our babies, make them talk to you, Thank God that she snapped out of it, think of how many other children are internalizing their pain ....I do agree that it was awkward to both hear and watch Jada and her mom hearing this for the first time on national TV but at least they're dealing with it

    How brave is all I can say. Such a beautiful girl but it makes sense bc there was the high of what she was doing at that time and sometimes when it stops, it can get really low.
    I went through a time in my teens where everything got dark for me and I didn’t understand the darkness. I listened to really dark music, sat in my darkroom and wrote out my dark feelings. Then to quiet my mind I started smoking weed and I felt very alone and isolated. My friends always seen me up and chipper for the most part but I was suffering after sexual abuse and not knowing my father which was eating at me and not talking to anyone about it.
    People assume though that things have to be bad and that a child like Willow wouldn’t go through that.
    She said she was 10-11-ish and I have an 11 year old now and I observe her and her friends and I can tell you, these girls at this age are starting to experience hormonal changes bc they are soon going to start their menstrual cycles and I think that plays a large part in these highs and lows they experience.
    I talk to my daughter and I let her know she can come to me about anything in the world and my intuition is turned all the way up.
    I observe her AND her friends. I listen when they think I don’t. I’m not a snooping mom bc she comes to me about stuff.
    I will say as parents, he’ll as people, pay attention to changes in patterns of behavior in your children and just people. It’s really just that simple. As parents don’t get so wrapped up in life that you don’t notice and when you do notice don’t blow it off as oh, they just becoming a teenager or blame their friends. What has saved me and my daughter is communication and making her feel she can come talk to me about ANYTHING.
    Parenting doesn’t come with directions. It can’t bc we are all different and I do have a lot of respect for the way Jada and Will have raised their babies. I think they are amazing children.

    Willow is so lucky to have such a great support system. I went through the same thing around 13-15 and unfortunately I got yelled at and threatened for cutting and harming myself. But this just goes to show that it could happen to anyone and you may never know.

    I think Willow should have spoken to Jada about hurting issues behind closed doors, then Jada and grandma would have known how to approach the world. Sometimes when you tell the world to much information it can be taken/received the wrong way, and your career can be placed on hold. Just pray for her, Jesus will take care of pretty Willow.

    I was around her age when I began to self harm. there were a lot of mental afflictions and physical afflictions I was born with. a lot of harmful things going on in and around my household and it definitely helped bring ease in such a way Willow described.. even though I stopped. those thoughts will always be there and we must fill our lives with positivity so as not to delve back into that mentality

    I didn't watch the original video but I find it strange for someone to have such a small reaction to hearing for the first time someone you love, especially your child, say they were harming themselves. I would have broke down immediately or hugged them or something.

      TheDaydreamfiend Trustz you don't know what your reaction would be to such a thing that isn't common. You can't presume to know how you'd responded to a horrific death, a suicidal confession, cutting, bulimia or more.

      TheDaydreamfiend my mom and grandparent didn’t break down when they found out I was cutting yrs ago when I was in high school. My mom seemed sad about it but my grandma was judgemental and said I was trying to get attention... that nothing was wrong with me.i cut for 5 straight yrs ...

    • @TheDaydreamfiend
      @TheDaydreamfiend 6 лет назад +1

      Thatsme You're right. I'm speculating and not saying I know exactly what my response would be. I have had friends share about depression, trauma, and assaults I had no idea about. It broke my heart and I absolutely reacted emotionally. If that were a family member, especially my child who dealt with this as a child, I don't think I could contain my reaction. That's just me. Everyone doesn't have to react the same and that's a hypothetical situation. Something about her reaction didn't feel genuine and it may have been that she knew before they filmed this. That's fine, that's their business.

      petitefraise I'm really sorry that that happened to you. Everyone reacts to things differently. It's good to have family support you no matter how they react to news like that.

      TheDaydreamfiend you are soooo right. I was thinking the same thing. She reacted like this was some girlfriend ( not even a close one at that ) of hers that was telling her about her childhood. It was like no major emotional reaction. Really? Oh wow I didn’t know. Waaay to nonchalant. What mother reacts this way? Unless she was trying to play off her feelings but that was a huge bomb that was just dropped and she’s all casual. Smh. I know I’m going to take heat for this but I truly don’t think will and jada are good parents. I saw the clip of her son telling her at 15 that he wanted to be emancipated and she was like well I guess I have to let him go... really????? Whatever their kids want goes. Whatever happened to actual parenting?

  • @Ahsek101
    @Ahsek101 6 лет назад +16

    Willow's face is not matching with what she is saying. Her terms are textbook. Most cutters wouldn't admit this to their parents nonetheless on camera... and certainly not on camera. And Jada's response is also telling a lot. I think there's a lot of preoccupation in the home with words. And the only time they have to connect is on camera. Even if the story could be made up just for attention and sense of affection that they don't regularly get. Theres just a lot of talking, intellectualizing, word battling in the home... not enough affection. That's my opinion.

    • @theonewiththekey3482
      @theonewiththekey3482 6 лет назад +12

      Ahsek101 Her face probably doesn't match what she is saying because she is repressing her depression. She wants everyone to think ' she's must be okay now since she said it so offhandedly, so let's not press the issue' , and she wants them to not worry about it so she won't have to worry about it. If you struggle with depression now, you'll always struggle with it- it's like addiction. It felt like, to me, she doesn't want to admit that she felt let down by her parents for not recognizing what she was going through because she loves them to much to inadvertedly hurt them. And some things are easier to say when you know that you are not the main focus or I should when you don't have to air your issues one on one. That's what I got from Willow; I don't know about her ma and grandma. I respect your opinion though and I agree...not enough affection in the way that she needs. But who are we to talk on these peoples lives lol. I think I'm low key judgemental🙊

      I agree with you - if was something weird about Willows delivery and her mother’s response - like her mother doesn’t know her own daughter or like their just two women talking in a therapy session - like just regular friends or women ! Something was off I love jada and Will but I think they have a weird parenting techniques and relationship with their kids🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ ijs that is my observation!!
