While patrolling the Honjo area, Heizo Hasegawa encounters his old dojo companion and close friend, Samanosuke Kishii, as well as Hikoju of Sagami, a ruffian from Honjo. Samanosuke informs Heizo that the daughter they once admired, Ofusa, has been divorced and is now married into the household of the villainous lord, Jubei Matsuoka. When Hikoju investigates the circumstances surrounding this lord, it becomes clear that there are connections to the mentor of Heizo and Samanosuke from their youth, as well as revelations of wrongdoing.

1:31:51 This was a good movie with a touching plot, but the character setting failed in several parts. e.g., the actor who played the chef was acting poorly. You can tell from his cutting of the onion greens. Even a novice knows how to chop the onion greens, but he didn't. At least he should watch how his wife cut the onion greens. I don't think he had never seen anyone cut the onion greens, he was careless in his acting career.
This was the reason he couldn't be a great actor.
Great actors care about every detail and keep learning something they didn't know.
I don't know the director, but clearly, he didn't notice at this point.

First - it is basically all good IF Peoples in general still have a strong bond to their Ancestors, original Culture. their Understandings and Way of Life and seeing the World- a bond however that is in Europe almost gone meanwhile - which is FATAL in my Opinion as this may end in total Chaos and Annihilation. 2nd.: it is indeed in my full Believe the greatest ART of an Actor/Actress - even until today - to play authentic and realistical HISTORICAL Characters in a very authentic and realistic Way - which may also - even in Europe or North America include also Sports and Martial Arts and Martial Arts basically also historical exist in Europe - which includes for example European Swordfighting and Fencing of course - but also other Martial Arts - to whom also Classic (Field) Archery belongs for example - even more important are Martial Arts of course in Shinkoku, China and Eastern Asia - but also for example also in Classic India (Indian Martial Arts). - All of this on behalf of Acting was also known to Sir Laurence Olivier, who also thought that playing all realistical HISTORICAL Characters is the basic most Artistic Art of an Actor - Historical Characters - that of course may of course even include Mediveal and Ancient Humans and naturally also Female Characters of World History. The basically greatest Japanese Actor of the 20th Century was however Toshiro Mifune, who was not far away from dying as a Kamikaze Pilot in his youth. Also Mifune had still had a strong personal Bond with his Japanese Culture Anchestors. 3rd.: Last not least I think and believe profundly to do more historical Films especiallay also in Europe and North America as well - and not only in Eastern Asia or India as the Past can be the Future - only - perhaps in a even BETTER Way. - The SAMURAI Feudal Time of Shinkoku had also plenty of postive Aspects - despite the also Negative Aspects of earlier History - like for example that far over 100.000 "Criminals" had been executed by the Tokugawa Shogunat and not all of them were Murderers - even so quite plenty of them. - On the other Hand - I do not consider the true existance of Classic (upright) Human Warriorhood as a truly NEGATIVE Aspect of Human History - with some exceptions. Classic Warriorhood is basically not Negative in my opinion and it is necessary that we need to differentiate between Warriorhood and (modern) Soldierhood of whom the later is the basically truly more to mainly NEGATIVE subject. In Shinkoku - the Transition from Classic Warriorhood ( Samurai/Ashigaru) to (modern) Soldierhood happened VERY fast = abruptely and very recognizable as well - mainly during the Meiji Period - starting with the Boshin War - the first all direct modern clash between straight Classic Warriorhood and modern ( European based ) Soldierhood - apart from the Native American Indian Wars and some other Confrontations between (modern) Soldierhood and CLassic Human Warriorhood - to whom also for example the British Empire based Great Zulu War of 1879 AD belongs or the Maori Wars in New Zealand or the last Mongol Armies Invasions the mainly concerned Russia - resp. South Siberia.
Excellent movie, good story and connected characters. It has that instant classic, everyone got what was coming them. Thank God y'all didn't go woke, if it weren't for Japan there wouldn't be anything to watch.

It's great that there are so many enthusiastic reactions, I personally found the video to be very disappointing, despite the excellent actors. Pretty long winded and a story line that would have been good for 15 minutes or something. The characters are poorly developed, superficial and the dialogues and flashbacks unfortunately provide no depth.
What I found worst was the rather pretentious introduction. When you compare this video to what has been broadcast before, such as "Hachobori Seven" or even "Undercover Spy Asahina" then it is really nothing special... on the contrary...
