Loving this series. I have been drifting for a while, but all mine are AWD. Really thinking of getting into the RWD scene this spring. Keep up the great work Joe.
Aha... 6 years ago when guys in my area drift with 8.5T, 10.5T & 13.5T, I was beating them with a 35T brushed, as with my racing days in 2wd buggy back in late 80's to early 90's, it's not just the power but traction and control makes you consistent and win races. Above all, HAVE FUN!
im in the same situation coming from On road racing started 13.5 I was horrible in Drifting kept on asking wear is the traction?? I went down to a 17.5 motor big difference .. awesome Video! still looking for base FDR/ motor setting for drifting
On my hpi sprint 2 drift car, I needed a traxxas 12 turn motor. in order to get it, to drift on our driveway. I had a hpi 15 turn on it, with a hobbywing esc.
Its weird. I disagree with all of these tips for the Sakura chassis. In our RC Drift group the highest turn motor used is a 10T. Everyone else uses 8.5T. Not sure why you would need a motor with that much torque. Is the drift surface high grip?
check out my D4 Joe, it's got a smoke exhaust. Your right about running into other people drift cars because some have alot of time into them with painting and scale features. I was running a 5.5 turn in my D4 and it was just way to much just uncontrollable i now have a 17.5 way more better:)
Lol! I got the smoothest car at the track and the fastest car also by very far. Im running 7.5t. Motor speed does help I agree but the real challenge is the guy behind the remote. I also stop running drag brake, when using drag brake, you cant let the wheel spin freely in drift to slow down, the wheel are either stop or spinning on gaz
Im setting up a brushless system on my car and was wondering if I could use a 1200kv motor. most of my drifting practice takes place on rough concrete.
I know, that is just what I thought. But Sensorless should work well to, when you are rolling/driving? Am I right when I say that the sensor is most used when starting with accelerating?
so what turn motor would you use if you are going to use the car on a combination of surfaces? there aren't any drift tracks near me. I'm planing on using it in my house and maybe a little bit outside on cement? I've been thinking of getting a 10.5T
Hey sorry to bother you but could you link me a kinda budget brushless 21.5T motor and brushless speed control? The one(s) in the description are discontinued and I’m also new to this AND am also getting a Sakura D4 RWD so if you could please help out it would mean a lot! Thanks!!
Joe Ferguson would you recommend the TrackStar Brushless ESC and 21.5T motor combo? I’d go for the combo and/or motor and ESC on RCmart, but sadly I’m trying to get decent parts as quick as I can cuz I’m 15 without a job and rely on small 1 time jobs like garage clean outs etc for like $20-60
Man i wish you made this line of videos back when i was first getting into 1:10 drifting. No such thing as ppl using gyros for drifting at least there wasnt a proper use for one, it was all CS and what CS ratio u could practice up to. RWD was a joke cuz you couldnt physically get away with it like youve said without a gyro in another of ur vids. NiMH which it seems are debatable in the drifting scene now, were far superior in all aspects pretty much to the old lipos of what i would have called yesteryear and now theyre back in a big way on the drifting scene. Im still running my 2nd leopard 120a motor esc combo i bought for my ta05 v2r which before i came back to the hobby a couple months ago i think about... anyways i was running 50/50 as i never found the time to mod the ta05 to CS when there werent really any ways to get away with it without an extensive knowledge of rc cars in general back then, not to mention i was kind of too young to do the kinds of research and reading i do these days. I actually just had my gyro arrive today so while im still tinkering and modding with CS on my baby and wishing i had a d4 or a d3 or one of the chassis conversions for the ta05 or hell even a vdf or vdf 2 i love my chassis and am working on getting the most i can out of it so ill be installing my gyro by the end of the night and eventually finding an easy way to remove my front belt for when i wanna switch on the gyro. I mean unless i go crazy with my CS Ratio then maybe i might need it to transition my way to 2wd
i just had to make this comment because when you were describing all your esc's features and then i checked the link in the descript i lost it, my esc is such a pos compared to what that thing can do the tech has come so far its blowing my mind that and gyros and the switch to 2wd and back to lipo are the main things that i woulda called you a liar for predicting back when i left the hobby 6 years ago or so.
I am a newb so sorry if this is a stupid question. Could you change the pinion gear to slow down the motor or is there some other effect that I don't understand?
i have a 60 a esc with a 9t 4200 kv motor and i want to connect the battery to the esf but dont want reverse polarity seeing as how thats why i ordered another esc but how can i know which red or black wire connects to which
+Joe Ferguson (Scale Freak) Just did, but I doubt they will answer prior to Tuesday due to Easter holidays. Just to clarify that we are talking about the same item,, this is it right? Hacktronic Program Card #HTN-301
Best Tutorials and explanations ever, BEST RUclipsR
I know this is an older video, but was a big help!
Oh man...so old. HAHA. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for this!
Just starting in drifting, and curious about motor setup!
Roadside RC Awesome! It can be a lot of fun. Defiantly do your research. Some people like even more powerful motors for insane amounts of wheel spin.
Loving this series. I have been drifting for a while, but all mine are AWD. Really thinking of getting into the RWD scene this spring. Keep up the great work Joe.

So do you feel a 12t brushed motor is too much for a drift car
Fawking awesome sauce bro.. I run a brushed 12t traxxas motor in my drifter and gonna change now
Great video now i have an idea what to buy thanks bro i am new to drift rc
I’m glad it helped. I wasn’t very good at drifting, so...I don’t have any of this stuff anymore.
im in the same situation coming from On road racing started 13.5 I was horrible in Drifting kept on asking wear is the traction?? I went down to a 17.5 motor big difference .. awesome Video! still looking for base FDR/ motor setting for drifting

Go to RCMart’s site and search for 21.5. There are two that will pop up right away that are a really good value.

Un-Polished Cement Floor. Very Abrasive.

I may dabble in the smoke exhaust systems a little later in the summer

I also stop running drag brake, when using drag brake, you cant let the wheel spin freely in drift to slow down, the wheel are either stop or spinning on gaz
That’s awesome. I don’t remember if I was using the drag brake when I was drifting. I was total crap at it, so I ended up selling everything.
Me going to rcmart: wow
Me after seeing what i need: looks like i am going to beg for money
RcMart isn't cheap man 😅
And for 4wd it the same? Because I'm thinking to buy between 2wd or 4wd
Great series of videos, going to order the D4 with the mods you have shown but the 21.5T motor is now showing as discontinued ?
no ned 21.5t motor u just need 8.5t or 10.5t motor u are really to go 21.5t over power
Im setting up a brushless system on my car and was wondering if I could use a 1200kv motor. most of my drifting practice takes place on rough concrete.
Good video again!
You did not mention to use a sensored set?
Or can you use sensorless to?
I used sensored, but I'm sure you could use unsensored as well if you had to
Ah, I would have thought that sensored would be better, so you can dose the power a bit better?
But I don't know anything about drifting..
I'm not saying non-sensored is better. Just saying it can be done
I know, that is just what I thought.
But Sensorless should work well to, when you are rolling/driving?
Am I right when I say that the sensor is most used when starting with accelerating?
+Ruud (Ruud G) censorless works, but makes life harder for sure. Im running censorless.
so what turn motor would you use if you are going to use the car on a combination of surfaces? there aren't any drift tracks near me. I'm planing on using it in my house and maybe a little bit outside on cement? I've been thinking of getting a 10.5T
it says the motor is discontinued, should we just look for another 21.5 motor?
my 13 turn brushed works great on my sakura D4
Jow what are your esc settings if u don't mind sharing . I got a sr10 with a 21.5
わたしもRC DRIFT動画作ってますが、シャーシはYOKOMOコンプリートです。
Is it enough just use 80a esc?simce 120a is expensive a bit
Hey joe im new to rc drift can i start with a 17 t motor? Which has around 2000kv or shld i stick with 21 t to start off
I think knowing what I know now, I would go for the 17T before going to the 21T
Hey sorry to bother you but could you link me a kinda budget brushless 21.5T motor and brushless speed control? The one(s) in the description are discontinued and I’m also new to this AND am also getting a Sakura D4 RWD so if you could please help out it would mean a lot! Thanks!!

@@spectrabomb4674 that will do the job, I've seen people use them before. You've probably already gotten it by noe

thanks for this serie of video, very useful 👍
Thank you for watching
thanks for the tips.
What surface are you running on?
Good video man, very helpful
Thank you for watching
does it go any slower than before
When can you do another running video of the Red Devil Recon.
I would like to get some more done in spring
Alright can't wait
Whats the difference beetween 10.5t and 13.5t?
Three more turns of wire.
I am a newb so sorry if this is a stupid question. Could you change the pinion gear to slow down the motor or is there some other effect that I don't understand?
You can, BUT, you also have to becareful of overheating the motor.
Someone please help need something just like this but for a 1/16 scale
I can use castle 4 pole 3900kv brushless for drif? Or 3200kv reedy brushless???
??
+WILL'S GARAGE sure you could, but I’m not sure it’s needed.
great Video!
Are any of the guys running counter steer kits? Would they use a similar kinda motor?
Chris was, but he has since grabbed a D4 RWD
+Joe Ferguson (Scale Freak) Is esc optional?
i have a 60 a esc with a 9t 4200 kv motor and i want to connect the battery to the esf but dont want reverse polarity seeing as how thats why i ordered another esc but how can i know which red or black wire connects to which
Your Esc and your battery should have it marked as to which is + and -.
+Joe Ferguson (Scale Freak) thanks
Any ideas why the program card for this ecu is discontinued? what else can you use to do the settings otherwise pls?
Really? That's odd. When I got them, they were well in stock. Have you emailed them?
+Joe Ferguson (Scale Freak) Just did, but I doubt they will answer prior to Tuesday due to Easter holidays. Just to clarify that we are talking about the same item,, this is it right? Hacktronic Program Card #HTN-301
what motor u recommend fir slow n smooth drifting??
If you're running a RWD you NEED a censored motor. Makes life so much better.
They doing it by using the e brake
Love your drift videos! Just starting RWD myself- check out my channel- I'm a quad and airplane guy
