I love that you’re saving the history of our hobby when you can, keep it up guys. To all the negative commenters, please just stop. How many cars have you saved and maintained the essence of what the original builders invisioned? Your channel is amazing and we appreciate all the hard work. Thank you!!!!

I am real happy to see you restoring this iconic 32 roadster back to its former glory. I hope that includes a nice shiny paint job as it once had. Patina is okay but back in the day the shine was part of the hot rodders ideal.

    • @allanrichards3752

Matt I really support what Gary says and hope that you restore this car to a condition commensurate to what it was in the time it was owned by jack DeLorean, which includes a shiny paint job. You have some good photos to go by. You have several cars where you have restored the original paint/patina but I really feel this one needs to be taken back to its heyday condition.

    Oh Joy, Christmas in June.
We get to watch Matt, his Dad, Steve and others on a new project that looks like they'll be taking a few trips on the struggle bus with lots of metal fabrication and welding.
Of course all of us know that in the end the DeLorean will run and ride like a champ after Matt and Crew is finished.

@IronTrap Garage I bought two 1932 Fords (roadster and cabriolet) 61 years ago. (Much better condition than anything you ever had). I bought a "model A" style rear end from "Pages Model A" so I could install 3.54 gears. I can't imagine I would do that if I had two model a style rear ends already !!!!! I looked thru my old photos but can't find any evidence one way or the other. Still have the roadster with the Page's round flange. Took it out for a cruise Monday.

That's a great car to build. It has a fantastic presence. Just an idea but would it make it easier to load/offload from that ramp if you had some lengths of lumber laid along each side for the car to run along? And a couple of ramps at the entry point would help as well. I look forward to following along with the build. All the best, Mart in England.

I saw something I have never seen before and at first didn't even recognize. The bumper brackets are turned around for storage I reckon. At first, I saw the one on the driver side and it appeared like something bolted from the frame to the spring perch area. haha Then I saw the other one and of course it hit me that they were the brackets! So dumb, but I had forgotten it had a front bumper. haha Good luck Matt, that's gonna be a nice one!

Matt, you ought to invest in a small CM chain hoist motor...a half ton or so. Most of that time and energy wasted in cranking that chain hoist up and down would be replaced by the touch of a button. Get more done. Feel less tired. Not endanger your finish with a chain rattling against it.
Not a cheap option, but not expensive compared to some of the other tools you own.

I am sure you probably thought of this but I have a suggestion. How about laying down long 2x6 boards on the floor along the outside the lift rails that way the car lowers onto them making the car higher to clear and is easier to pull out over the end rails. Eliminating that big of a bump.
    If this makes sense

    • @IronTrapGarage

Now that you have the body off, you can look for the two serial numbers. Both are on the top of the left frame rail. The front one is under the left fender slightly forward of the steering box. The rear one is under the body near the rear of the running board. Yours may be totally rusted out. I believe the v-8 numbers started with "18" and the 4 cylinders started with "B".

The round flange (not lumpy) on the front of the banjo housing shows that this was originally a 4 cylinder car (if they didn't change the rear axle). This style takes model A style axles; v-8 axles were different.

    • @IronTrapGarage
      @IronTrapGarage  2 года назад

Incorrect. 32 fords used model a style rears / center sections regardless of engine. Only very very late 32 V8’s got the scalloped flange and they are very very rare.

@@IronTrapGarage it’s just all pulling to move such a minimal amount. I like being able to run the hoist one handed and have the other free to guide or hold something.
