I find myself thinking more of poor Timothy Evans, yet another victim of "justice". I truly hope his name will be cleared before long.
It was horrible, for sure. Poor man and wife and baby. However, one thing which also strikes me is what must have been the feelings of the Jurors when they realised that - due to deception - they had sentenced an innocent man to death?
I agree with you. I feel absolutely horrible for that man and to think that the British justice system won't quash his conviction when it rightfully should be done because of money. What a stupid reason. As for the other person in this story, it is too bad he wasn't caught sooner and discovered the hangman's noose
@@lexiburrows8127go down, ye murderers, go down to quote the song.
He was given a royal pardon in 1966
@@simongorton6297he was pardoned but not exonerated. I may have my terminology wrong here but there's an odd situation here where he has been officially been absolved of any blame for this crime but on the books at least he has not been declared not guilty. It is deemed an unsuitable use of funds to go through the motions to change this fact although it's fully accepted that he wasn't legally responsible for his wife's death.
I absolutely LOVE seeing a new DiD upload. Of all the people that died in the First World War but this garbage human survived.
Hitler: 'Hold my beer'
An excellent presentation. in the 1970's, my Dad and I went to London to see the Tutankhamun Exhibition , as the queue was two miles long, we went to Madame Tussauds, and I remember looking at his wax effigy, and it made my hair stand on end. As part of the display, the boards from the actual kitchen ,and suit the waxwork wore actually came from number 10. as did his glasses. It was an eerie experience for a 10 year old. Apparently, all the figures of people hanged were dressed in the suits that actually belonged to them. They would be allowed to by the condemned.
Great movie about this case with the amazing John Hurt as Timothy Evans. Unsurprisingly called "10 Rillington Place"".
A scene was filmed at Merthyr Vale railway station and the former Merthyr Vale Police Station. The ramp to exit the railway station was there then.
Exteriors were filmed at the real address. It was knocked down shortly after filming.
I can't get through it a second time besides being so horrific, because of Hurt's performance, just too hard to take. Truly one of the greatest actors of all time.
Oh, lovely! Something to listen to while I concentrate on styling wigs! Many's the time 'im indoors has walked in on me listening to your video about the Yorkshire Ripper while I'm working and said "AGAIN?"
If ever a man needed a wig it was John Christie.
❤ thank you, get excited when a new video come up .this is part of my evening sorted .
Since you've done railway disasters here on the channel before (Quintinshill), I'd highly suggest the Harrow and Wealdstone accident. TL;DR it happened when an overnight express from Perth crashed into the rear of a local passenger service standing at a platform at the station. The wreckage blocked adjacent lines and was struck within seconds by a double-headed express travelling north. This event began the acceleration of the introduction to the AWS system on BR.
Also, one of the engines involved in this crash was LMS Princess Royal No. 46202 (LMS No. 6202) Princess Anne, which had been rebuilt from it's original form of a Steam Turbine design that had been introduced in 1935.
Very interesting you bring this up. The day this was published (18 January) is known as The Day of the Roses in Australia. It’s the anniversary of the 1977 derailment of a loaded passenger train at Granville Station in Sydney and the subsequent collapse of the Bold St overpass onto several of the carriages.
I wonder if Albert Pierpoint knew that he'd executed an innocent man, and if so what he thought about it.
There’s a few interviews with him out there. I must confess I haven’t watched them but it would be interesting to hear his reaction.
Of course he didn’t at the time of hanging
So happy to see more DiD in the new year. As always marvelous video with a despicable subject. I've loathed Christie since I've heard of his escapades. Though to be honest I only ever heard of his rather dismal treatment of Timothy & his family. Dismal treatment being a bit of an understatement. Looking forward to more from you my friend, bridge poetry perhaps? No pressure of course. My best to you & yours in this new year.
Oh, bless your heart, DD!! I've not even seen the video yet, but I've been checking to see if there's anything new from you, and today was the day! So excited to see this!❤❤❤
We currently live but a bus ride from where Christie was caught by a police officer. Ever since I first learned of this case way back in childhood, there is always something both disturbing and reasurring about that spot. Knowing it was where he would finally be made to answer for his crimes. The film is still a chilling watch more than 50 years after it came out.
Christie denied killing Geraldine Evans,he never confessed to it.
What an evil monster Christie was. This horrible inhumane being committed all these cruel and evil crimes because he lacked any control or emotions. He seemed to be someone who wanted to be imprisoned so that his money problems, debts, and all the rest of his personal problems in life would be gone and that he could have a cushy life in prison or be hanged in a quick way as to be free from living. A cruel, callous and calculating evil monster who thought of no one but himself. The poor lives he took and ruined and also the mis carriage of justice from the police and magistrates for charging, convicting and killing wrongly an innocent man. Shame on those who convicted and sent to death an innocent man.
Have you ever done a video on Ted Bundy? Your facts are always so precise and correct, and I've watched some documentaries on him that were far from that. Plus you pay homage to victims in ways most murder documentaries do not, which I greatly appreciate.
Well, I wouldn’t say they’re ALWAYS correct. I somehow usually manage to make one or two mistakes in nearly every video! 😅 but I do at least try my best to get as close to 100% as possible.
Thank you very much. 😇
It makes it all worthwhile reading things like that.
@@DiD86 you're so welcome! I really do look forward to your videos and have watched most of them. Thank you for the time you take to make these!

Thank you 😇👍🏻
Thank you for making is video 👍🏻❤
Another great vid, thank you, sir!
My pleasure!
Thanks!
Many thanks.
I enjoyed listening to this story.
Karma caught up with Christie in the end. If only the police had carried out a full check inside and outside of the apartment earlier.
This would have saved Timothy Evans life. RIP to TIm. Thoughts are with his family and friends.
Oh, I totally missed this one. It wasn't even in the subscriptions tab. :(
But as usual great video look forward to seeing more
*Albert Pierrepoint* could have his own documentary, based upon his history in the role as hangman. Ironically, his execution of Timothy Evans (1950) and other events lead to his retirement in 1955. I won't say any more on this, in the event that DiD should produce this documentary in the future.
If you can find it, there is a 2005 film *Pierrepoint* (The Last Hangman), in which he was played by Timothy Spall (great actor!).
There's also an adaptation of *10 Rillington Place* (1971) staring Richard Attenborough, Judy Geeson, & John Hurt (all great actors!).
Hi yes both great movies managed to find them in a charity shop x
@@LeojoyHains Thanks for your response. I just ordered them. I will have to wait 3 weeks for delivery. Cheers!
I believe that he never thought of the death penalty as a deterrent.
Not that it matters now but the one thing that would have served justice is if the A-holes in law enforcement and the judicial system would've been held accountable for hanging an innocent man.. Hope you're well. 👍🍻

Man !
Depraved 😮
Great video.
Tell me about it! 😔
Actually, as a side note, it was reported that Christie refused to admit to killing baby Geraldine, even though all the evidence suggests otherwise. I guess he felt some sort of sick honour to himself that he did not want to be remembered as a baby killer as well.
Has the Evans family been properly apologized to? They should receive justice
I don’t think so. Wouldn’t surprise if not.
Thank you DiD for another interesting video 👍because of what happened to Timothy Evans (and Derek Bentley) I will never support the death penalty. There have been too many miscarriages of justice.
It is better to let one hundred guilty men walk free than to convict one innocent man.
@@DiD86 I totally agree
Hey there's no sound! Is anyone else hearing only silence?
Try backing out and restarting the video. My RUclips app does that too where a video is silent.
I've got sound. Hope you get it sorted.
No
hearing silence lol.. how does that work then?
That's so strange it works for me now! Thank you guys!
Hello mark, can u please take into consideration doing a factual, detailed, video of the only jew Hitler protected. The Jewish doctor that treated Hitler mother Clara. My favorite subject is WW2 mostly the Holocaust. I love your videos of the dark subject because nobody knows their history as good as u do. And u go into detail plus your different accents are on point. Please, please, take into consideration my suggestion. It will be greatly appreciated. And a dream come true!
Who’s Mark? 😂
I will look into the story. 😇
...... Apart from Manstein, Milch, Heydrich and many others in his inner circle who were of partly Jewish descent aka 'Mischlings'.

Mine does.
I don't think Christy ever confessed killing baby Geraldine .
No. That allows some people to believe Evans killed her so justifying his execution.
Who cares?
The hanging end for this ------ was way to easy a end.
Cases like this are the reason the Innocence Project was born. Sadly, innocent people are still imprisoned and put to death. However, Mr Evens is with his wife and child in Paradise, and the murderer is rotting in Hell. Small consolation, yet justice was ultimately done.
I see the legal system hasn't changed much.
😔
In a way I hope Timothy Evans isn't exonerated so the mark against the justice system stands, they behaved despicably and his conviction standing highlights that.
Christie was the murderer the judge and jury too, they sent [Tim Evans] to the drop, for a crime he didn’t do, go down, ye murderers go down.
Talk about spoilers right at the beginning...
Whoops. Sorry!
FUCK YES
My father saw the bodies in this house 😨🤤
How so?
@@Ligerpride my parents went to view the property and my mum said it smells. So my dad's friend said he'd rent it and my dad who was a builder helped him to redecorate and out came the bodies and they called the police. My dad actually met Christie. Dad's still alive and remembers most of this still.
@@dailypolishme wow, that's quite something to experience.
@@Ligerpride when I was little, I didn't believe him. It's only when I got older and saw the film at the end i realiseditwastrue. I still ask him about it.

40 minutes to decide a life. Everyone seems at fault. Timothy let down and people wonder why the public lack confidence in the Police. The lack of confidence could be generational.

There is no such thing as the 'British' legal system. There is English Law and there is Scottish Law each with a different structure and independent of the other. It is about time Timothy West was granted a free pardon even if TOO LATE!
It also applies to Wales, so not entirely incorrect to call it British.
