I pity that guy for having such a freak for a father who obviously abused, tormented and ultimately killed his mother.
I feel for him. What a terrible place to be in so many years later. Shame on his Dad for putting him thru it again.
David, you should be so very proud of yourself, all you have accomplished and how you presented yourself on the stand. Eight year old David has turned into a man to be proud of.

He's a nervous wreck. Who wouldn't be what an extremely difficult thing to do. All that trauma is being triggered while he is on the stand.
It's impressive that he got a PHD in all this mess. After seeing the evidence it's obvious that his father did it. I hope he and his brother are able to continue to reunite with his mother's side of the family. Both boys have been through enough! Please remember he lost his mother and father on that day. So if you can't be kind move on.

"How he can just simply sit there and say I don't remember," Isn't the same person who has just got a Degree in PhD, or whatever it was. For a well educated young man he should be able to recollect what his mother was going through when he was 8 years of age.
Not unless between 1998 and 2 months ago his demonic father had poisoned his mind by filling him up with evil lies which demons are well known to do.

I am so impressed with this young man for succeeding academically especially due to the trauma he has been through. To not just finish collage but to get a phd is very impressive and he should be very proud.

He was only 8 years old, it's disgusting how some of you accuse him of lying. It's not his fault he can't remember everything that happened back then. His mom's death clearly caused a lot of trauma. It must be so hard for him, I'm sure.

I feel so bad for him. Either way you look at it, he either has to accept that his father poisoned his mom or that his mom committed suicide. At least we know that if Julie was here today she would be so proud of her sons
that is a correct statement either way he is being asked to recall things that occurred with others when he was 8yrs old
that was almost 20yrs ago It is really hard for anyone to remember conversations with people that occurred last week

It is sad that he has robbed the two kids of knowing their mother and then immediately replaced her with a new mother figure, which his 3 year old brother would have grown attached to. He was the only kid in that new household with lasting memories of his mother. So i agree with the brother's of Julie - even after she died, he erased her existence with the two people she loved most in the world...her own kids. Thats such a disturbing thing to do to another person.
Poor guy! No one wants to think or believe their parent could harm their other parent. Denial has to be a way of coping with the deep hurt it would cause. You can tell he's very nervous and uncomfortable.
Can’t imagine being murdered by your husband and having your children grown up to protect and defend your killer. The 20/20 special showing him smile and wave to his father as he walked off the stand isn’t surprising. It seems like the kids are always in denial. Julie deserved so much better.
Narcissists have an uncanny ability to deceive everyone around them. That is part of their MO for terrorizing their target person.
To me, David shows more traits of anxiety disorder than hesitancy. We don't know anything about his childhood.

We know a tremendous part of his childhood trauma.
As someone with severe anxiety disorder i can’t hardly watch this. I feel his anxiety and hear it😢

Seems like a nice guy. He’s certainly done well for himself academically and probably professionally. I’m sure it’s been hard on him over the years dealing with the death of his mother.
His dad should have got a divorce instead of killing their mother.
The creepy moment at 32 minutes in where it appears Mark is smiling and mouthing something to the camera 🤢
It seems unthinkable that a Father would ask his son to defend him for potential murder, and even subject his son to cross-examination, when the facts of the case, even circumstantial, indicate the probability that the Father committed the crime of murder of the son's mother; and furthermore, the Father knew his own actions were criminal. This testimony by the son is very difficult to watch and I feel for his discomfort on the defense stand.
He REALLY thinks mom committed suicide and tried to frame dad? She would have had to be a monster to do this.
Seems like a sweet kid. Can’t imagine the trauma he and his brother have gone thru losing his mother and now his father is going to prison. I hope he finds peace one day.
His explanation of “physiology and biomedical science” caused more confusion than if he had not defined it at all. This guy writes the presentations that pharmaceutical companies give when they need to get their drugs approved by the government, or they need to testify before congress. Makes perfect sense.
He just looks just like his father, but I don’t think he comes across as manipulative. They have lived thinking their mother chose to take her own life.
I think he’s trying to protect his dad in a roundabout way by saying that he doesn’t remember anything.
I pray David heals and realizes that he did nothing wrong - I can tell he has a good heart and even though his mother washed his mouth out with soap, it makes me think Julie was being gas lighted by Mark at the time and had fears of all he did to her - May you keep the happy memories always and continue to honor your mother - This was heartbreaking to watch.
You can tell he so uncomfortable. Clearing his throat a lot, the quiver in his voice and the pauses. He has suffered a great deal of trauma from all of this. It's fantastic that he received a PhD.
My heart breaks for children, who loose both parents, because one of them kills the other 💔.
Over and over we see these children fight for the "surviving" part and believe in their "innocense".

it seems to me its like normal that partners murder one another especially in the US . Not saying its only there but its a more growing number than anywhere else. Its the fact of money comes first divorce means lower their standard of living jealousy is another reason but most is money. . Very tragic . These people have no value other than money which is their god. . It will increase because the money factor will grow in importance not decrease . The system is like this. God bless these children

What a selfish father and husband this jerk was. He had another woman and could have just moved on. But he had to take his children’s mother away from the sons he professes to love more than anything. Remember, separated or divorced, the best thing a parent can give there child is to love the other parent! If you can’t do that don’t become a parent. You chose your spouse, now deal with it like an adult!
This man was used by his narcissistic father. A key marker of a narcissistic parent is their ability to covertly manipulate the feelings of their child. Children are a sweet morsel to this type of parent. Narcs need fuel and a cadre of alliants to a achieve their goals of power and control. This man may be literally unable to see his father as the murderer he is.
I read that he testified that his father sobbed after finding his mother dead. I don't believe that for a second. But I don't mean to suggest that the boy is lying, I think that over the years his father told him that and he came to believe it. He was only eight after all. It's really really easy to implant false memories. Especially after a child has been traumatized

David was 8 and also traumatized him not remembering is expected.

What a genuine guy. He has done good things with his life. I hope he continues. When you're a child your reality is innocent and face value with pure love and only expect honesty and believe everything is just that. When you grow up and see things from an adult perspective realizing things weren't true....that's a hard road and not everyone goes down it. I am still watching this trial and have not in a whole so I'm not speaking about his son personally. He told his truth and he did an awesome job in a horrible situation. No one can imagine what he's feeling and has been through. To him his dad did no wrong his mother was sick. It's simple. He was a child...his testimony really was pure and that's what he was supposed to provide in this unfortunate situation. When you're a child and go through something traumatic ya just don't remember much.

I’m sure that term “drive by Christmas” was put into his head by an adult, because an 8 year old in rural Wisconsin wouldn’t know what a Drive-by is. An adult was clearly trying to degrade the gift giving spirit that his Mother’s relatives had for him. It shows manipulation of Julie’s sons after her passing.

It’s too bad the defense chose to put him on the stand, for a few reasons. I feel terrible for him, but also he is telling the story differently than he did at the time. Being a major trauma survivor myself, I’m inclined to believe his original account of the events, as that was recorded at the time. If the trauma had caused a definitive memory (I remember mine implicitly from that same age, and I’m 54), his stories would match if he were telling the truth. I’m not accusing him of lying, but humans are capable of lying, so it is one of the possibilities.
When the state started the cross there should have been an Objection when Mark was smiling and “mouthing” words to his son anyway Justice Was Served for Julie🎉

@@SaturnovertheseaI think the father knew exactly what he was doing moving his mistress into the home after his wife died. The other child was 3, and would obviously cling to a motherly figure. The older son probably didn't want to bring up his mother because of the new woman in the house. Some kids would be defiant but others might recoil and go with the mood set by the remaining parent. So of course he selectively cannot remember telling his teacher and friend about his mom, because he blocked it all out. It doesn't fit with the narrative his dad has been building over decades. I feel bad for the son but where is his outrage over his mother's suspicious death? He had a PhD so he knows how to use deductive reasoning and assessing all the evidence collected against his Dad....I'm just wondering why as a grown man, he cannot stand up and ask his Dad if he did it or make up his mind about it himself.

I understand why he doesn’t remember. After a tragic event that happened to me, I just wanted to not recall it anymore because I didn’t want to feel the pain, and with that I forgot details that still I don’t want to get over again.

There situations where we find out the worse husbands but are great dads. I’ve worked in children and families for years and when it comes to the kids some of these guys have the strongest bond with their child and no matter what the child cannot switch off their love for either parent
When a father kills the mother of his children, they are NOT great dads and the so called bond they have is most likely to save their ass and make sure they will defend them and believe they can do no wrong. The children probably think it's a real bond, but taking away the mother of their children and having them witness her illness and worry about her, and go through life without their loving mother for his own selfish needs is not a great dad. Incapable of love for anyone but himself.
@@nicoledenning8090 I know what you’re saying and your not wrong. But in cases like this similar to the OJ Simpson case the killer parent didn’t immediately go to prison. That parent remained with the children and became their comforter and carer. Hence, the child forms stronger bonds with the loving supportive caregiver parent they survive in that love. They don’t believe that their surviving parent could do such a thing and it’s often the case they don’t want to believe it and lose another parent.

David, although perhaps a "genius" academically, clearly is very socially awkward and may have inherited some troubling mental issues from his dad, hopefully, he will take it upon himself to get therapy in the future before getting involved in any "intimate" relationships.

I'm having a problem with the Proscutor's line of questioning. First she objects to the "leading questions" and then she begins to tell David how he feels and or how he felt essentially putting words in his mouth. "So for you it's tougher because you didn't testify in those times". "And so I think you told us that what you remember about that night is just kind of hanging out with her in the bedroom". Fact , he never said he (hung out) in the bedroom. It's obvious this young man is nervous and under stress. Also because of her line of questioning it appears to me she is attempting to paint an inaccurate picture for the Jury regarding David's testimony by inserting what she has in mind from past crimminal court cases having to do with his mothers death, Not what this young mans expierence and actual facts may have been for him. It kind of makes me angry for him.
