    Meadow rules, and it's great for this list. Not a complicated rule set, but offers thinky decisions to be made throughout the game. Always engaging, and quite rewarding when you can make things happen. It deserves all the love it gets.

    when Jamie mentions board games and the experience are just layers and layers of complexity all I could hear was "board games are like onions...they stink, or they make you cry, oh you leave em out in the sun and they start sprouting little white hairs.. no LAYERS!"

    Ok, you guys touched on some of our favorite games here. I just got back from a trip to the mountains with a bunch of non gamers. Heat was a hit, but I would say with less than 4 it's not very interesting. Silver Bullet was in constant rotation. People loved this game, I was asked to teach it multiple times, it killed. Meadow, I love Meadow. Beautiful, simple yet elegant. Libertalia, plays great at 3, plays great at 8...just a fun game and not a ton of mental burn.

    I too always remembered the game mentioned @7:26 as Clue. Had wondered why some called it Cluedo. Thanks Jamie for that bit of trivia.

      In the Netherlands it's called Cluedo as well but we pronounce it Clue-Way-Dough, that's how it was pronounced in the tv commercials

    I'm enjoying Res Arcana, which you praised. Silver Bullet fell flat, but I'll give it another try with different people.
    NOTNinja works at 4 players, so I keep it as a backup for BOTClocktower, which requires 5 + Storyteller. Not everyone shows up when they say they will.

    These are great picks! I gotta especially agree with a Libertalia winds of Galecrest. The more people we get to Gateway plus the more people are super into the hobby! Keep on evangelizing lol.

    This is topic is all about how do we initiate people further into the cult of board games. One of us. One of us. When we have family or friends coming up to visit or we’re going down to Florida we just stare at our collection trying to figure out what games we can hook them with.
    Planet unknown is a good one. It makes most of my lists though lately.
    Splendor I would probably put in gateway+. I thought it was just gateway but in playing with stephs sister and nephew it might be that small step up from straight gateway

    Never heard of awkward guests, but that seems fun! Definitely see this as a good intro. Gonna have to check it out. To Jeff's point I never heard of cluedo until I was in the industry and it was a big ask for a lot of stores. Had no clue it was a thing though until then. I just thought people were adding letters to the end for whatever reason.

    Planet Unknown is a very good game, and it's quite intuitive once you get the rules down. Meadow is a little more complex, but the artwork alone....very nice game. I have friends who are fairly new to board gaming, and Meadow was fantastic for one of them, and too much for the other. But Shake That City, [you didn't mention here, but it would fit the list] really hit the spot for both of them as well as the more experienced gamers at the table. Thank you for the list. I have a few more games to check out now!🙂

    It's always interesting see what people consider gateway and gateway+ games. Great video.
    Planet Unknown seems a little too complex though I haven't played it yet to say for sure. But with my gateway experiences so far I would almost call Dominion an next step game...Haha.

    • @FostertheMeeple
      @FostertheMeeple  Год назад

      It isn’t. It’s placing tiles and moving up the track of the tile you just placed. We’ve introd it to many people. But yea it’s all going to be subjective

    Love Awkward Guests! I would get people to skip Clue(do) all together and just start with it.
    ScandalOh! Is a great step up from AG as well.
    New York Zoo & Heat, parent approved.
    Also taught some random people at UKGE who were trying to read the rules of Heat.
    I like teaching Villagers by Sinister Fish as a step up. Good village/engine builder with unlock combos.

    So as someone newer to the hobby, I feel like I need to ask, what is a "Euro" game?
    Feel like I don't have a firm grasp on what classifies as a Euro.

    • @FostertheMeeple
      @FostertheMeeple  10 месяцев назад

      Honestly, I wouldn’t worry so much about definitions, because honestly they are so muddled now. But basically it’s a game with indirect player interaction, and pretty much no randomness (dice rolling for example).
