    question! how do you deal with a really aggressive player and is a lot more dominant than you?

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  9 лет назад +9

      Jay Sunny typically a more aggressive opponent can tend to get tired quicker or be more sloppy after awhile. you just gotta use a lot of footwork to really move around and counter with kicks without getting hit(too much atleast) I will probably do a video covering this soon :)

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  7 лет назад +10

      Do what works for you or fits your style as a fighter. I personally just stay relaxed to keep my body and mind calm then when I am attacking or countering be explosive.

    • @LeoJohnGalt
      @LeoJohnGalt 6 лет назад +2

      Both. Relaxation is the first key to getting into the zone. Once you get into your rhythm and your strikes start flowing at will, without hesitation, you'll intimidate the enemy with your composure. If you can dodge and reply to their strikes without a hair in place or a bead of sweat, you won't look weak.

    • @sulffojus1227
      @sulffojus1227 6 лет назад +1

      Being relaxed doesnt make you look weak it could actually make you look more intimidating since it shows you are conifent that you wont loose

  • @hypeph5808

    Well, as a 1st Dan Black Belter, I usually parry my opponent's attacks, there are two choices, by pulling my head backwards and hitting the opponent with a side kick to the body, which you can easily counter back once the opponent gets moved back and is vulnerable, or if the opponent falls down and he/she gets a minus to his or her points once you do this techinque three times. The second and more difficult choice is to land a side kick into the opponent's face when you parry, if any part of the opponent's face bleeds, you get 3 points. The trick to this parry is to get your kick as high as possible and face as low as possible.

    I'm 11 and I'm a purple belt in TKD. The stuff about shutting down your opponents attack, I don't ever do. And with the attacking part and moving around part I'm good at. A combo that my master taught me yesterday was R kick Back kick and then follow up with another roundhouse kick and keep on pressing and pressureing. And ya probobley keep my guard up he didn't say that thing about keeping my guard up but I'm pretty sure it doesn't need to be said.

    • @xPHANOMxRACERx
      @xPHANOMxRACERx 9 лет назад

      rockstarbop dude keeping your guard up is the most important thing in sparring, if your not keeping that guard up your saying to the opponent hey hit me I'm giving you a free point, I'm well aware of sparring techniques when I go to tournaments and I'm not called or higher belts are sparring I watch and learn from there mistakes so I make sure I don't do the same when I start. if you throw a double roundkick at someone you can dodge it by pushing it down and getting in close to punch for a point. my friend showed me that a few days ago. it'll very helpful for me in four months. A good method to help keep your guard up is to grab your gi where it opens kinda and hold that while you practice kicks it'll help a lot that's how one of my instructors had to learn because she was so bad at keeping her guard down. hope my tips help and good luck with your sparring.

    Hi Alex, thanks for Ur reply. Regarding Ur Kicks to the head, do Ur sparring partners wear headgear. If they don't, what is most damage U have done to them, broken nose or cheekbones etc. Have U KO'd a few people. Presume U have in Fights even if they wear headgear. Watching speed of Ur Kicks is special & can imagine U flooring plenty of people. Dave x

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  9 лет назад

      Melly Juarez I'll work on one soon, I'm getting mine back to good solid form before I instruct it, but not too much longer :)

      @boredattack 9 лет назад

      For me the spin hook kick is all about rotation a good chamber foot position and keeping your balance by keeping your balance you can setup your next attack faster

    i just came from a state tournament but i only went for spirt forms, but im aiming for sparring next year (im a first dan black belt btw) and im a mediocre fighter the big problem for me is that i cant seem to pick up my feet to kick fast enough, while i have little to no trouble with footwork as i can zip around pretty fast and my reaction time with my hands are just fine any way to fix or help this?

      Sounds like maybe you need to train your reaction time. Here is a basic drill I did a video on that could help and you can use different kicks for the drill other than roundhouse: ruclips.net/video/AnAIgwYM3Ec/видео.html

    In Taekwondo I have a problem with blocking and being hit or moving backwards. Thanks for the tips! Now I know how to do a bit better with sparring (If anyone knows the right definition for sparring then tell me since I think I did it wrong.) Now with the tips.

    Hey alex

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  8 лет назад

      A lot of people are like that, including myself. You have to be really comfortable at tournaments and really over time and experience you will gain that. But here is a video I did talking about confidence in sparring that may help: ruclips.net/video/r6AtzmliOEA/видео.html

      Hey man. It's just that you are comfortable with your own group. Don't dwell on it. She said it well. Have fun. The rest will come with time. Be confident.

      I say go for it! TKD will help you become more flexible and sharpen your kicks. I learned some Muay Thai and love mixing it with my TKD kicking!

      I started in my late thirties. I got to red belt. I was about to test for black stripe before I hurt myself. Just remember to stretch correctly and practice your kicks slowly before going full force. First practice the form then concentrate on power and accuracy. Good luck.

    Never telegraph your attack. If your opponent knows what you're about to do, you will NEVER land your kick.
