    A wonderful show for all these years.It is interesting that in the archival shows people were slim and so well spoken.

      I'm glad you noticed that. I've been chewing over the obesity thing, but there's no question that the "well spoken" observation points to a better education in the lower grades than in the U.S. As to obesity, that's a big a problem (syndrome? symptom? mental? physical?) which affects most rich countries, entailing much needless outlay in health care (knee and hip transplants, diabetes, cardiac overload, and more). It seems to be largely related to class, which, I'm guessing here, is why you don't see much of it on AR-UK.

    I dispute the value on that compass/sundial. At the same time period, all you needed at sea was an accurate watch:
    Armed with the knowledge that the sun progresses at 15- degrees per hour, observing local apparent noon made longitude determination a snap, if your watch kept Greenwich time. Latitude was, nightly, a matter of observing the elevation of Polaris, which was/is +/- 60 nautical miles of where your are. Of course, storms and clouds messed up your expectations. What happened? Well, our vehicles got faster and more enclosed. So here we are with GPS, not bad.

    • @johnneville403
      @johnneville403 2 года назад

      There were no accurate clocks you could use at sea in the early 18th century. This was why the British parliament later ending up paying the clockmaker John Harrison the modern equivalent of over £3 million in prize money for producing his series of accurate maritime timepieces. They revolutionised navigation and solved the "longitude problem" which the government was willing to pay a fortune to resolve.

    I must compliment the UK on the quality of their Entertainment Program Choices.
    We have "Antiques Roadshow" and it has always been fabulous. However, whomever Produced the American Version of "Time Team" - *"missed the entire hoop and board its attached to"*
    Clearly, the Britist Programs Production's focal points, formats, and themes, of the Entertainment Programs, that I have had an opportunity to discover, are done so with consideration of the available Viewer Base/Audience having a higher expectation and higher level of value in their general education and intelligence.
    Considering my background includes majors in Journalism and Sociology, I have an understanding of that which I am sharing.
    (...and I happen to be of Irish lineage - so it can pinch a bit to acknowledge these facts. There's value in truth, especially When it bites the messenger's Ego Mind. A worthy exercise, necessary to achieve a Higher/Mature Minded state, that which is required to achieve a state of Wisdom.)
    Nevertheless, it is a Media quality that is desperately attractive to me in this era of Observable "Medias creating and fostering the Lower/Adolescent Minded Thoughts and Actions in the USA".
    Given my interests and Sociology understanding, I shall apply some time to learning how the British Public has achieved such success.
    (The owners of 95% of MS News and other Medias are also those whom own our Federal Reserve Bank Corporation - and the primary resides in Britain - Rothschild.) Does the man/family own the Monarchy, as well?
    The USA Public is largely unaware of this - and it is tragic to observe - so I avoid it as much as possible. Especially the DT antics.
    However, I do have a vision of a Most Benevolent Outcome and feel that will unfold over the course of 2020 and following will further make way for great improvements in the USA and the entire Western World.
    Seeing as I subscribe to Quantum Physics and their discovery of the Universal Law of Attraction - I feel certain my counterparts across the Atlantic will also apply a like vision and also enjoy the thoughts and feelings of a more securely experience of greater ethics in Medias and personal independence and freedoms, bringing about "Quantum Jumps" in our World's living in a state of personal and collective *"Harmony"*
    Harmony = Peace in Motion
    Have an Abundantly Positive New Decade!

    Would it be out of order to ask for a date with that gorgeous figure playing the piano in the opening scene? I suppose the answer would be the same as I got as teen, when requesting same with their daughter: "Oh no, she's glued to her piano". (It may be lame, but I couldn't resist it.)
