Great example of someone who hasn't spent $50/pouch or $500 on the carrier. But without breaking the bank, he clearly has assembled and thought through the functionality to his kit and made it work for what he feels he needs. Average citizens, you don't need the most expensive plate carrier and you don't need Level 4 plates. You don't need the absolute best comms set up or the best equipment overall. You should always think about what you will most likely use it for (worst case scenario) given the area you plan to be in for the longest amount of time (should SHTF). Great video and thank you for showing people you don't need to go broke for a kit that works.

Great video, well done. Straight to the point without any fanfare.
Having an already prepared pre loaded of the sawyer mini is a great idea. Do video on it.

I’ve seen worse setups (my first setup was atrocious) but there are plenty of improvements you can make. Take it from someone who started with an almost identical setup.
1: First and foremost, your medical is severely lacking. I have 2 on my kit, a one is on my belt, and a larger one on my plate carrier. The one on my belt alone has more than yours and is in a smaller package. It is the Blue Force Gear Micro Trauma Kit Now. The one on my plate carrier is it’s big brother the standard Blue Force Gear Trauma Kit now. Highly recommend looking at those IFAKs.
2: Upgrade the plates from steel to ceramic/polyethylene plates. Steel has so many drawbacks. The biggest drawback being that it’s heavy. You can get level IV ceramic/polyethylene plates that are the same weight if not lighter than your level III+ steel plates. The other issue with steel is spalling. You have to get an anti spall coating on the steel plates to prevent a round from essentially becoming a mini hand grenade when it impacts the steel. Then when you get the anti spall coating you’re paying almost as much as you would for ceramic/polyethylene plates so there isn’t much reason to go with steel.
3: This can be chalked up to personal preference, but I would get a more minimalist plate carrier. That Condor is needlessly big and bulky and will slap your chest with every step you take while running. I know this because I too bought that same plate carrier with steel plates and running with it is annoying because it is constantly bouncing against my chest even though I tightened it down. I have since upgraded to a Crye JPC 1.0 and it is a world of difference! So much less bulk, so much easier to get on and off, so much easier to shoulder a rifle, the list goes on. The point is, get a plate carrier that cuts out the unnecessary bulk, especially around the shoulder where you go to shoulder a rifle!
4: Finally I would recommend more primary mag carrying capacity while moving the pistol mags off the front. The more you put up front, the higher off the ground you’ll be in the prone position which can be disconcerting if you’re being shot at. I would personally recommend either ditching the pistol mags entirely on the plate carrier, or find another location that isn’t on the front. As far as adding rifle mag capacity, what I do is use Blue Force Gear’s Ten Speed rifle mag pouches that flatten out when not in use, and I put them on my right side cumberbund where you have your IFAK currently. That way if I need to carry more mags I have the space, but if I expect I don’t need as much ammo, I leave them empty and the pouch flattens out.
These are just my suggestions, because I have been down that road already so hopefully you can save some money and time trying stuff that doesn’t work and instead skip to the good stuff.

I upgraded to ceramic lvl IV plates, and shaved about four pounds off the weight of my PC. If you can find and afford them, I definitely recommend it.

An extra squeeze bladder for the Sawyer weighs about an ounce, and it would let you set up a gravity system to filter clean water into your hydration bladder.
I like the setup. But I never saw the need to have so many pistol mags. Lots of folks seem to carry 4 or 5 pistol mags though, so maybe I'm missing something? I think 2 spares are enough, and at least one of those would be on my belt. With a G17 that's 51 rounds counting the mag in the pistol. I'd rather swap the weight and space for more rifle mags/ammo if possible. I want to fight as long as I can with my rifle. The pistol is just to get me back to my rifle, a really fast transition in close quarters if I don't have time for a rifle reload, or maybe while in a vehicle against an up close surprise threat. I also like the idea of less stuff stacked up front as well in case I have to go prone. The coms rig is very nice.
I keep thinking about steel body armor for around the house; or to stash in a vehicle, since it will stand up to the heat, and pretty much last forever. But I keep hearing things like "With steel the bullet spall is just going to rip your face off anyway, so why bother?" So I've subcumed to analysis paralysis when it comes to armor.
Can you sit in a chair or vehicle with your vest and/or your belt setup? After Hurricane Harvey there were folks trying to hijack rescue boats. Also, we had issues with looters in storm damaged areas, and also in areas that weren't damaged but which seemed like easy targets. After that, it occurred to me that I might roll up on something unexpected in my truck or boat while checking up on friends and family. During the Spring Freeze, I was one of the few homes in my area w a generator, and that made me feel like I would have had a target on my back if things had gotten much worse. When the power is out and no one is driving, you can hear a generator a long way away! Most of the scenarios that I've personally been in have involved the need to be in and out of vehicles. Everyone's needs are different, and I know the next situation may be different, but another hurricane is more likely for me than zombies or a Red Dawn.

Wow, same plate carrier, plates, antenna setup, and bladder that I run. However I run Comtac III singles with a PTT mounted on PC. "great minds think alike" or "fools seldom differ".
Question about the sawyer mini, does it plug into the bladder or into the mouthpiece? Thinking along the same line myself but want it to plug into the mouthpiece end to make attachment/detachment easier.

Only thing I can say about it from my background would be to add at least 4 more mags to it in some way because in a shtf scenario 3-4 for mags is not going to be enough by any means... I would also suggest a real ifak, possibly a bear fak from bear independent, and possibly a dump pouch because magazine retention but other than that nice set up

    • @PilotPatriot
      @PilotPatriot  3 года назад +3

Lol...it's very secure, and it's not a drop leg holster...the holster is securely mounted directly to the belt with a drop/offset mount, there is no "flopping". The leg strap is just to ad additional support.
If you wanna see plenty of running an gunning with a similar drop and single strap holster setup you'll find that here ruclips.net/user/trexarms

I am just gonna say your medical is severely lacking, I would go look at some premade AFAK's to see a lot of the stuff you need. Since its only one med kit you could also look at IFAKs but AFAK would be more robust and hold everything you need if you were to treat yourself. Medical should be your second priority to your rifle/pistol.

Maybe somewhat water resistant but not water proof. Most things are out in the open for fast accessibility anyway. I don't reccomend swimming with it on ;-)

Personally I feel your plate carrier is too small as it doesn't protect your lower torso. Your medical kit isn't very sufficient in the event you actually do get shot. Otherwise not a bad setup.

Lose the steel plates they are not practical. I used to run them. Soft light weight armor is well worth the money
