Hey Jeremy. We put our yorkiepoo down just before my diagnosis. With or without PD, we were done with pets. It is a big commitment we didn’t want to take on again. We’re happy with our decision.

I completely understand! Pets are wonderful but very time consuming.

I've lost my routine since I've had my puppy. I would workout, do my Red Light Therapy, play some piano, and get in some sauna time. It's all gone to the wayside. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back on track soon. He just demands so much attention and when I get home from work, I feel like I need to cater to him. This is the reason I'm thinking about going part time, I just need more personal time during the day to really accomplish all the things I want to before I get wiped out.

A puppy will wreck your routine. But they are so damn cute!

I just remembered I did have a snake over twelve years ago. Named it Draco but rides were more important than the pet. Before that my son had given me a cockatiel named Pinky I really liked him but it died of a broken heart. That was before any serious symptoms of Parkinson’s. I think you’re right about the no pets that may hurt you just running around.

I had to put down my puppy (15) in February. My wife and I had already discussed not getting a new dog months before because I’ve not been able to pick up poop for a while. My wife is a cat person, who loves me and loved my dog enough to pick up poop for me, but I think it’s unfair to ask her to do so indefinitely by getting a new puppy. We’re now down to 1 cat (11) who’s much easier to pick up poop for (litter box). The cat has become much more affectionate and seems to enjoy being the only fur baby. Our decision to not get another dog was not easy but fair.
