I am proud of you guys and you especially Trevor. You both have come a long way from Episode 1 and I am happy to see that you are now a proud Tesla owner and now able to enjoy the features and Functions that us Tesla owners love.
This is the best video I have seen yet for the installation of the BlackVue 2CH cameras. Also, I was fully prepared to do the installation myself, but after reviewing several installation materials and the fact that I was also installing a lighted applique, it just made sense to have a professional person do it, just because of how difficult it is to install a MX with OEM finish .... Its not worth most people's time, frustration, and effort... Save money by buying the BlackVue online and use those savings to pay a professional installer.
You made it look so easy I thought I'd try it-then at the end you said it was a 9.5 in difficulty and recommended to let a professional take it on. You must have edited out some of the moments of frustration.... Very nice video!
Thanks for video, Trev. It only confirms what I already knew: I'll go to a pro for my install. One of the things I'll be asking during our meet-up at Evannex is for recommended local shops for this work. (Also, protective film for body, and window tints.) Don't wanna entrust my M3 to just anybody.
I’ve been using front and rear BlackVue cams for 7 months now with zero problems to report. I have the DR650S 2 channel. It’s pricey but the cloud and notification features can’t (currently) be found on any of the competitor brands.
Where you ran the power wire from the ceiling at the top of the driver door to the seal you interfered with the side airbag. The airbag is really powerful so I don’t think it will be a problem but I would try to avoid that.
Hey trevor, i was following your tutorial, and i am concern on the way you pass your cable through the A pillar(aka door frame) when you went from the roof to the door seal, i think you are blocking the curtain side air bag. As i stuck my hand in there i felt something soft. I suggest you review your cable wire following the glass on the front windshield.
I'm a long-time Model X owner but I don't know much about that particular dashcam. What functionality does it give you over the video already being recorded by the Tesla? And drawing 2 amps from the OBDC! I think that power is on 24x7. Let us know when you kill the 12V battery!
I let out a big GASP when you were trying to put the mirror back on as I think you did too. And I was very nervous when you took the trim off of the back door. I have installed several dash cams and don't think I would tackle this myself either. Glad it worked out for you. Have you heard any rattling from the cables so far?
Model 3 is Arriving in Texas Starting January 26, Model 3 will be on display at Tesla Southlake. As you prepare for ownership, you can sit inside Model 3 and experience the expansive glass roof, premium interior and 15‑inch touchscreen display. Tesla product experts will be available in gallery to answer any questions you have on your upcoming order and discuss how our energy products can power your home and charge your car. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear about the latest Tesla updates, including our Dual Motor All‑Wheel Drive system, now standard for Model S and Model X.
I'd recommend an add-a-fuse (search amazon for them) used in the fuse box rather than the wire tap. That's what I used in my Subaru for the same camera setup.
My mistake, I should have elaborated. I meant as an alternative to tapping the power line you did. Mostly for anyone else who chooses to use the fuse box instead.
Thank you for the great video The power is that a constant or ignition I’ve been told that if the camera is on constant it will flatten the battery is that true
The problem with the way you're routing the wire is that it could interfere with the deployment of the side curtain airbag. It's hard to tell from the video, but be sure you're not running the wire over the airbag or one of the stringers.
Model 3 Owners Club I'd rather be safe than sorry unless you're positive that the wire can retract sufficiently to not slow down the deployment or cause a malformed deployment. We're talking on the order of nanoseconds and anything the engineers didn't design is an unknown variable. As long as the wire doesn't get jammed around a corner or something it is probably okay, but the safest bet would be to just run the wire behind the airbag rather than over any components of the deployment system
Trevor, does the Model 3 come with Manufacture alarm or we need to install after market ? thanks a lot. Well, I know that Tesla security that they making it from stealing but what about try to stop them from open the car to steal our stuff inside. thanks
All 3 that I had were great for the first half a year. Then they started overheating, damaging the SD card, creating corrupt files and messing up the settings without letting me reset those. When I reached out to them their customer service wasn't very fast or good. I'm going to be switching to a different brand soon.
I've had this happen as well (living in SoCal), though it was with a different brand. The one I'm using now, an AUTO-VOX, has lasted much longer than the previous one I bought. You gotta be sure to use the capacitor version in the California heat, since the battery versions will overheat much more easily.
Hi, I was just wondering if Model 3 can use those cameras as dash cam (recording trips)? I don’t like the autopilot when I test-drive model S, therefor I didn’t purchase that feature, but would be nice to have use of all those cameras in the car.
i have the same dash cam .. dont try the OS update for the cam .. after i did it stop showing speed and keeps showing the wrong date and time .. i tryed every thing to fix it .. it still works and takes video and when used with the on chip software it shows the speed right but its has alot of bugs
Do you need a Power Magic Pro or another low-voltage protection device? Can you just hook the Blackvue power directly to constant? What about drainage?
I would be concerned putting the dashcam in front of the radar or sensor of things ahead. Has anyone tested or enough experience to know if it has any discernible negative effect on whatever camera/radar might be up there? It likely won't help.
How did you get the coxial cable that connects the front and back dahscam from front cam to the start of falcon wing door. I saw u ran both cables through the track on the windshield. Power cable goes down to driver side, but how does coaxial cable come near the beginning of falcon wing door at the top. Thanks in advance for your help.
Another quick question - you mention that you took the camera off from another car. With adhesive mount - how did you take off the camera from another car - any special tools/ method used for clean un-mounting from another car?
MrFlorisss95 Because people love getting in accidents with you and then suing you saying it's your fault. People also love to hit and run parked cars in parking lots.
I am proud of you guys and you especially Trevor. You both have come a long way from Episode 1 and I am happy to see that you are now a proud Tesla owner and now able to enjoy the features and Functions that us Tesla owners love.
Thanks Les for the kind feedback. We do try our best and Trevor is always looking for tech/info that is relevant to our community as a whole.

I know this is 4 years old, but that scene when the mirror snapped had me laughing - mainly bc that I could totally see this happening to me.
You made it look so easy I thought I'd try it-then at the end you said it was a 9.5 in difficulty and recommended to let a professional take it on. You must have edited out some of the moments of frustration.... Very nice video!
Electrical silicon spray on any tight grommets or conduit to helps that cabling pass through nicely ...
Thanks Trev, you have given me some excellent clues on how to instal camera on my Prius ! Yes I am - Saving up for my “3”
I installed mine from this video! thank a million

InternetDude i support this comment. I just did my installation, and i felt the curtain air bag, so i decided on rerouting it trough windshield
Did you void any of the warranties by doing the work you did?

Oops. Everything I touch breaks. There goes the warranty.😱 You are much more talented than I am.
You can probably take 12v out from the mirror socket. I am considering coupling the wires to that line.

Awesome work, y'all! Too funny at 02:07, you should've hollered at us.
Thank you for the great video
The power is that a constant or ignition
I’ve been told that if the camera is on constant it will flatten the battery is that true
Hmmm... A _'This Girl is on Fire'_ commercial for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games...
Couldn’t you just hook a wire to the supply for the fuse box, and add an external fuse in a more accessible position?
I just ordered this massdrop for my model 3. Hopefully the install for the model 3 is easy.
Model 3 Owners Club Initial reports from a professional installer is that the install on a model 3 is much more difficult than S and X
😔
From this video, it appears the installation on a Model 3 isn't as easy: ruclips.net/video/82UIZlM0P-A/видео.html
Trev, I can pencil you in for next Wednesday. It’s a nice drive to Ottawa in the winter.

Why didn't you buy a B-124 external battery?
With all the cameras on the car you think this should just be a software install.
Your so right about this !
It is on the newer cars but older cars don't have the capability
You are a very very handy man your wife should be proud of you
I've had really bad experiences with BlackVue dashcams. I'm on my 3rd one and it'll be the last. Crappy customer service too.

When I reached out to them their customer service wasn't very fast or good. I'm going to be switching to a different brand soon.
Very different use case between California and Canada. I have had many Dashcams die in the California heat.

Michael Vallicella do you think blackvue will do well in California triple digit temperatures?

Great job! One question: Where can I buy the little blue tap cons that you mentioned at 18:35?
Do you need a Power Magic Pro or another low-voltage protection device? Can you just hook the Blackvue power directly to constant? What about drainage?
u will get drainage but the main battery will keep it goin. that camera don't waste that much power
What model black vue model did you get? Thank you
What’s dash-cam model? Thank you in advance!
Nice job
Why do you need these ? Does it connect to AutoPilet
7:30 I feel bad for laughing but i LOLed pretty hard

Model 3 Owners Club how does one know there is no interference with the camera, esp close objects if it's in front of and lower than the camera?
You showed everything except how you got / tap into the power
How did you get the coxial cable that connects the front and back dahscam from front cam to the start of falcon wing door. I saw u ran both cables through the track on the windshield. 3:55 Be very gentle with it *SNAP*
Nice CH-601 :) Do you still fly it?
Now is the time for Elon to annouce dashcamfunction in the next software update.
7:31 is what i call an "oooops moment"
Say - On Board Diagnostics, (OBD) fast ten times 😉
No worries, you are most certainly not the first or the last. It's pretty common I'd say.
What does ODB stand for?
Wait a minute, building planes vs installing a dash cam??
Whats the point of dashcams? I assume it's for insurance purposes.. but I've never seen anyone do this where I'm from (Netherlands)..
MrFlorisss95
Because people love getting in accidents with you and then suing you saying it's your fault. People also love to hit and run parked cars in parking lots.
This is so nerve-wracking. Phew!
Can't you just tap in to the autopilot cameras?
Model 3 Owners Club I was thinking a coaxial y splitter type of thing
Watching this makes me nervous
autsch - it hurt many times watching :D
this looks incredibly stressful.
You really butchering your car.
Respect.
F all that, just get a lick and stick in the window and call it a day.
I still find this video remarkably depressing. I bet it's not cheap to hire someone to do this. Plus, would I trust them with it. No :(
Painful to watch.
