Now... THIS queen could SING and no one who's a true music lover ever hated on the lead singer Boy George of a UK pop reggae band like UB40 or The Police who came before them. But this young man in full drag at all times sang his heart out and none did it quite better in that genre. MtV is who really blew up the band once people saw Culture Club's look and aesthetic for a gender bending awesomely gifted balladeer up front ❤
I haven't heard this song in a while. This song was written about how Boy George felt about his affair with his drummer Jon Moss due to it being non public for years. Nice request Kwarwell. Like the reaction Jack.
Brother you really know your music! I remember hearing this on the radio alot when i was a kid. All these requests remind me of my mom. Nice to go back in time.
It is not! It’s about racism through the years You didn’t see them sitting there with black faces on mocking mistral shows or in the 1950’s when Dorothy Dandridge a black woman stuck her toe in the pool while walking to her hotel room the next day, they drained the entire damn pool and scrubbed it with bleach know your history, hun!
Welcome back to my kind of music and it's funny to see the way you move your head together with the beat because that's how we did it upon hearing and seeing this classic song for the first time, I wish though that u also get to see the video so as to experience the full effect of the song but nevertheless It's a wonderful treat that you did a reaction video of this iconic song from the phenomenal Boy George and the Culture club, by the way the reason why you hear that ticking sound like a clock it's because this song came from their album Time ( clock of the heart )..you should react on their song Time which is in the same album.
That "effect" that you liked in the song is a Dub mix and is commonly used in Reggae music. Those echoing sound effects and heavy base are commonly found in culture reggae, not so much in dancehall Reggae.
I think after the death of Bob Marley, reggae became very popular, at least over here. (The Netherlands) I was in my teens and remember so man t reggae songs and bands, like UB40. Culture Club isn't a real reggae band but rode the coat tails of the popularity at the time like many others did. Marley himself of course still one of the best.... LJ
Yes Time i was like 7 when this album dropped but i loved it. TY Vh1 and MTV. I use rush to the TV whenever i saw Boy George. I was soo confused..i knew he was " a boy" but he was so pretty. My lil brain 😂
I'm so happy you mentioned reacting to Reggae music. Besides the standards of Bob Marley or Peter Tosh, the modern Cali Roots Reggae is awesome. Namely groups like Stick Figure, Pacific Dub, Rebulution, Arise Roots, The Elovaters, The Movement, Through The Roots, Iya Terra etc
That effect its called the echo chant it was very common in the 70s & 80s in Reggae music. I don't what's the name of the equipment used for it. But in musical general like Disco...etc it cool popular style for that era you were introduced. Yes it would be cool to get more Reggae/Sasa/ merengue/mambo/calypso requests
The term for the echoey part is dub. In reggae the b-side of 12 inch records usually had the instrumental version of the song and used a lot of echo, reverb fades to enhance the music. Try listening to the music of reggae producers like Lee "Scratch" Perry, The Nutty Professor, or Sly n Robbie.
Not keen on Boy George himself - he's a nasty piece of work - but i love the old culture club hits in particular Victims, which is a beautiful song. I love this one too.
I came of age in the 80s…and you know what was amazing about that time?? We knew how special the time was while it was happening. We had a blast! I swear 1984 was the best year ever. I mean everything happened that year in entertainment. Best decade ever!!!
Recorded in one take. Caused a commotion in the press and news next day then world went boy George crazy What was that on top of the pops last night Was it a girl or a boy or an airplane It was a significant cultural moment in identity God bless boy George ♥️ He was 100 years ahead of all this pronoun nonsense
I loved Boy George's music, still do. After what he did to a guy back in 2008 he has gone down in my estimation. He deserved to go to prison and serve his time.

Culture Club broke the #mold in EVERY way for the 80’s.
DOPE🤯🤯🤯
One of the all time best songs from the 80s... PERIOD! Boy George had a singing voice that was smooth as silk.
Thank you Kwarwell for the request!!!

@CRobb Yeah. According to George, nearly all the songs (by _him_ at least) were about Jon.
Boy George voice ❤❤
If you’ve seen The Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler, Alexis Arquette does a great cover of this song in the movie (may Alexis rest in peace)
A mess!!!😂
