I just wanted to tell you, that it's only been a month and some change since you posted this, but you've already helped someone replace their belt and save some cash. I was worried about this, didn't want to pay a mechanic 60-75 bucks to do it if I could so after watching your video I tried it and completed the task! I would highly recommend to anyone that can, to get the special belt removal tool that you show, we didn't have and it would have really came in handy and helped lessen hassles. Anyway, I'm a middle age Woman, with no previous mechanic training (except watching your video) and with the help of a Neighbor letting me use his shop, and tools, together we did this and neither one of us had done this kind of thing before. Bravo on the video and on how you presented each step and task. My pickup is now squeak free and I am a happy camper!
Your video was a big help! New serpentine belt and Idler pulley for my 93 ranger. I did have to wiggle the tension pulley a lot to get it moving though. Thanks for the great video help Raul.

damn not gonna lie did it with the two wrenches getting that belt back on was a extremely difficult. But it did stop the annoying screeching! Thanks your vid was the best !
If it kept screeching, it can possibly be the idler pulley. If you take the belt back off, spin the pulley and listen for scraping or binding. The two wrench method os much harder to remove the belt, because it hard to hold it and there isn’t alot of room in that area

Hey thanks for sharing this video....I got a 94 Ranger 4.0 and I have to replace the Idler pulley and put new belt on.Hopefully we get some better weather than -4 here in Ohio to fix.
TIG2MAN0 Actually, it goes in front of the fan first, and then goes behind it after it is all the way around it. He had me scratching my head at first.
You can get a loaner serpentine belt tool from Advance Auto Parts and possibly from other auto parts stores. You pay for the tool and use it. When you return the tool, they refund the price. I did this when I replaced the alternator in my 2000 Ranger.
Question for You My friend does the belt adjust to apropiated tenssion it self or it has manual tensioner? cus l Will like to stop squeking in My Ford Ranger maybe is loose.
Yes self appropriated tension. Did you get any antifreeze or oil on the belt?? If you get antifreeze on it, you can try to take it off and wash it. But usually you have to replace it. Also if the belt is new, the tensioner might be the issue not the belt. They will squeak when they are bad
Hey, great video. I am trying to put a belt on a '99 Ranger V6 3.0. Same setup, everything looks the same as your video. However I cannot get the belt back on. I'm using a ratchet but I even put a pipe on it (the ratchet handle) to give more leverage and push it as far as it will go. Got someone else to try to put the belt on the A/C and Power Steering while l pushed the tensioner. It lacks about a 1/4" going on. We tried multiple times. The belt appears to be the exact same size as the old one. Any ideas?
sometimes if the pipe is to long, you can't grab it at a lower position, so it taps out because you don't have enough leverage. same thing happened to me before, when i used a ratchet and pipe. try using the one combination wrench and a big wrench, or buy the tension removal tool at harbor freight (they are pretty cheap). then you can put your socket on the end, and its a piece of cake to put back on.
Just back away for about 5 min. then go back and look at how the belt goes around and make sure it's in right position. try again. It ain't as easy as it looks!
Thanks for the response. We finally got it. Had to take a long screwdriver/crowbar and push the belt under the idler pulley. It was just too far off to get it on the A/C pulley.
I had a mechanic friend stop by and he couldn't get it on either. So he had me hold the tensioner down and he got his tool and popped it on there. It worked so I'm not complaining! Thanks

First, remove the 4" diameter tube that goes from the throttle body to the air box. It's on top and gets in the way. The top of the fan shroud seems to be missing.
I didn’t have to remove any of that, but i do mention that you can remove it. I unplugged the mass air flow sensor and moved all that aside. The fan shroud is there. Maybe bad camera angle.
Casey Ostrander i am sure there is a torque spec, i can check my repair manual and see what it says. When i remove bolts, I usually get an idea how tight they are. This gives me a fairly good idea how tight they should be.
I learned the Gates belt for a 2000 Ranger 3.0 with air conditioner part # K060882RPM does not fit. If anyone buys this belt return it. It's too small. I will be getting my next belt at the Ford Dealer.

Jose Hidalgo check your tension pulley. If there is not enough tension, it will fall off

i change my belt every 2 years and i only use a regular ratchet and socket , just align the fan so that you can fit the ratchet on bolt
tweak that will work also 👍

Casey Ostrander roughly 18 lbs You can check your toque spec before removing it to get a rough idea.
Thanks, man. My Haynes manual gives no info, while forums say that Ford manuals state 35-47 lbs. Weird how hard it is to get a solid answer on this.
