Serpentine Belt Replacement 04 Ford Ranger 3.0L

- In this video I'll show you how a serpentine belt is replaced on an 04 Ford Ranger 3.0L. This job requires very few tools and is very easy to do. First, disconnect the negative battery clamp from the battery. Then remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and air filter housing. Then take the tension off the belt by applying clock wise torque to the tensioner pulley. Once the belt is loose it can then be removed from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse procedure.
Remember, there is a belt diagram on the vehicle if you forget how the belt is routed after it has been removed. If your vehicle is missing the diagram it would be best to make a drawing of the belt routing before removing the belt.
A note on the method I used by "doubling up" or "coupling" the two wrenches: This is a technique that an old timer taught me back in the day. This is not the correct way to use these tools. It's very easy to bust your knuckles using this method as the wrenches can slip apart. (also, other injuries could occur if the wrenches slip apart. Who knows what could happen?) Be careful, and use this method at your own risk if you choose to do so. There are other ways of doing this. There are tools specifically designed to do this job. If you feel that the method shown in the video would not be a good option for you then I would suggest getting a tool specifically for this job.

Special thanks to my wife for checking my spelling on this video and all my videos. You're the best Babe!
I have a 2005 Ranger 3.0. I needed to replace my alternator. I watched at least 8 or 10 youtubes on how to relieve tension on the .belt. .None of them helped until I found this entry. It was exactly right and showed how to relieve the tensioner. Thank you for this entry.
Really helpful video - changed the belt on my 04 Ranger with no trouble and that wrench trick is a life saver. Thanks!
Glad it helped
🎉🎉😂j
Very helpful. I have my A/C compressor bypassed and when my belt slipped off I couldn’t figure out how to reinstall. Also, the additional wrench trick for leverage also works with a socket wrench and the round end a big wrench. Great video!
Dude! I never comment but thank you for showing me how to get the belt off without removing the fan!!! Didn’t think of that and I was about to take the whole thing off to replace my belt lol. And no other videos specify that trick
Glad to help
Very helpful. Leaving the idler pulley to the end really helped me. Thanks for the video!
For sure! That's what kept messing me up till I watched the video.
7:26 Excellent video with clear instructions in logical sequence.
The 5/8 wrench trick saved the day!
Very helpful video. Very much appreciate it. I watched it a couple of times over a month or two and it took less time to change the belt then I took watching the video so thank you very much.

This video just helped me change my belt on my Mazda B3000. Thanks!
That’s what I’m about to do haha , good old b3000
Thanks for the double wrench trick. I totally forgot it. It's a bit fiddly, but it was the only tool I could get on the tensioner.
The best video by far for belt replacement!!!!
Wow! Thanks 🙏
Thank you. Very helpful and made the process 10x easier.

Great video.
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the video, it will make it easier for me to do it. I have a question, the compressor clutch looks like it has oil, where could that oil come from?
Thank you!!! Very helpful😊
Absolutely!
Still can’t get this after 4-days. The key issue? Does the entire belt go behind the fan blades or just ½? If both halves , shouldn’t I just go in from bottom & behind fan, towards firewall, to begin with ?
Can’t get it after days of watching & threading. Going insane. Thx
Very nice thanks
You’re welcome
Ok from minute 4:35 i can tell the ac motor its turning easy w no problem,,mine its stuck ,,ok first thanks for the help im about to do the same but my belt got broke im not disconnected like you, so if my compressor its stuck its normal? Again im asking cus i can tell yours its to loose,,its should be like that?I prefer to know now before install the belt and get broke it again,,im thinking the compressor it got stuck,,that means i will need a new one right? Well thanks man good video..
Very Helpful video !! Thank you for posting it.
Sure thing
:36 You may have just saved me a few hundred dollars. I was planning on having my Ranger towed to the dealer to finish installing the belt I bought that's too short. I'm certain I bought the belt for the Ranger with no A/C compressor. I've got A/C. I spent over an hour pushing down with my 15 mm wrench & pulling on the belt & there's no way it will fit.
Thanks! Very helpful! Thanks
Do you have to take all the extra stuff off with a ranger? Ive seen people just loosen the tensioner and slap on the new belt without doing anything else. Is it just to make the job easier?
Future me here after replacing the belt. It's not really required but it would've been a massive pain in the ass working with. Thank you for the tutorial helped so much!
Extremely helpful, thanks. I have two problems first my temperature gague doesn’t go up or down. And no air comes from my ac/heater. Any idea what these two problems could be?
Have you checked your fuses?
Good Vid!!
Thanks for the visit
Awesome! Thanks man!
No problem!
There's only one problem I can't get the tension unit off. There's no nut left to take it off from it fell off how do you get it off to replace it?
Thanks allot for sharing this video
No problem
Thank you
You are welcome
super helpful
Glad to hear!
Useful video until the final moment when you slip the belt underneath the idler pulley, off camera. I've been struggling to slide my belt under and it lacks just a couple of millimeters from happening. Argh! I've been back and forth with the auto parts people and this should be the right belt size... helpful trick to slip it under the idler pulley?
What size belt?
My tensioner wont budge any solutions to get the belt back on
Sounds like you may need a new tensioner....if it doesn't move at all. How did you get the belt off if its stuck?
I tried to put the old belt back on it seems to be to short can't get it back on anyone have any ideas what's wrong
The belt tension on my Ranger 3.0 won't budge at all when I turn the breaker bar clockwise. If I turn left (counterclockwise) the belt begins to unscrew. Haw anyone encountered dilemma like this? Where you can't move the tensioner?
The pulley nut, not the tensioner mounting screw.
How come my wont start after I put in the new belt
You got me.....🤷♂️. Did you disconnect your battery?
@@BarboursAutoHelp no
@@BarboursAutoHelp can the tension too tight causing it
I would not think so. Do you have a locked up pulley?
@@BarboursAutoHelp I will check today once I'm off work. Thx u for the quick response n help bro.
Pls what is the number of this fan belt❓❓❓
