In this video you forgot to tighten the banjo bolt, when you were pumping the brakes you can see it leaking dome there.

My caliper got stuck and had to replace rotors cleaned calipers and replace the calipers seals , didn't know how to get the rotors off my 98 4x4 truck thank you for this video! Took over 4 hours

While I don't currently own a dually, I do own a 2500. I've found it much easier for me to get a stuck brake caliper off by using a large c-clamp. And I do it by taking the flat end on the end of the screw and pushing it up against the brake pad (if possible) while the other end of the clamp is pushing the caliper further into the rotor. By doing that, it allows the piston to decompress and makes it easier to slide the caliper off. It has worked for me for years. Just thought I'd share that with ya. That method also worked on my 02 k1500 I used to own. Also nice video.

Okay thank you that makes sense one of those two issues are probably my problem time to pull the tires check the calipers and the discs.

Thank you so much for explaining this process! This is the only video on RUclips about this exact truck and it has helped me out tremendously. Hope you have a great day and keep up the good work

Great video! I didn't know how to do 4x4 rotor replacement, seems like a lot more work to than on regular cars, but you made it look easy!

Generally, i use a washer and the lug nut, and a 1/2" impact to pull wheel studs into rotor, that way i know they are in there all the way..

Another way to do the caliper when instslling thr new caliper. Suspend the OLD caliper out of the way, I stall the new caliper, disconnect the brake line from the old and replace banjo bolt and Two copper washers and onto new caliper that is already steadily attached.

When you put the bolts back into the rotor.... if they are not perfect DONT SWEAT IT.
They will seat when you put the outer hub / tire on for non dually.
I've changed lug bolts many times.
There was this old timer that when ever he changed lug bolts. He would only put them in half way. Then put tire on to finish seating them. He never had a problem with them seating like that.
This works on cars to big rigs.

I was looking for this video. My 98 has this exact same front brake system. Problem is the hub is rusted in the mounting bracket. How hard should I hit the rotor to loosen it to get the bearing off.

I got mine out of my 1998 GMC K3500 6.5 Dually, pain in the -@$$. I suggest taking it fully off, heating the bolts up and then impact off. Unfortunately for me I stripped one and had to weld it. The Rust in the north east is superior.

Gordon do you know if the knuckle and hub bearings are the same on the 88-98 2500/3500 chassis? The season I'm asking is that I'm actively looking for a K2500 6.5L Suburban, and I'm going to convert it into a dual (rear) wheel truck. Instead just swapping the rear end I'd like the dually spacers for the front as well.

Sorry, I don't know, you might try asking a salvage yard or an auto parts store to look up both part numbers.

What year is this truck? Have the Chevy always used that setup for the hub on 4WD?

    • @duffman1241
      @duffman1241 2 года назад

I don’t think this is a stock setup as far as I know the rotor had the spacer built onto it until 01 then they used the metal spacer

Owen Fairweather - he must have found it by now. But I feel your pain, wish I could have holler’d at him. Even though it wasn’t in the present time. Sometimes these videos can be torture for ocd’ers. On a positive note, he did a good job. I use gravity bleed too, I just don’t tell people who use pressure bleeders. They get a little upidy

so I pull the ratchet toward the rear to loosen both the caliber and bracket , on both the passenger and driver side. and up to tighten on both sides?

Left to loosen, right to tighten.
