One of my favourite Aussie bands, unguarded moment would be my favourite song of theirs
Upvote for Unguarded Moment!!
Mine too
Is it weird that I prefer the version from El Momento Descuidado?
I read somewhere that Steve Kilby hates it.
First heard it in Miami vice
This was the golden era of Australian music. The church, Cold Chisel, the go-betweens on and on
TIMELESS MASTERPIECE! Driving through the mountain roads of Greece listening to this gorgeous tune!
Driving through the California desert at night years ago. This song came on the radio. It was hauntingly beautiful.
Some of the most underrated guitar work you will ever hear, is by this band.
Dig deep, Constant in opal, Month of sundays, North south east and west it's great stuff. They have a wonderful body of work.
The guitar interplay between Koppes and Wilson-Piper is amazing. Some of the tracks on Priest=Aura are beautiful.
I still remember standing in the night club when I first heard this song, I can still picture the whole club. There's not many songs I can say that about.
Love The Church, - The Unguarded Moment is a personal fav. Glad you guys chose to listen to them. 😀👍
Yes, Gavin! The Unguarded Moments is one of the greatest songs produced in Australia. Masterfully composed, it's perfect.
This song nearly won us a battle of the Bands competition back in 1988. Only to come second to … A whole lot of Rosie. AC/DC cover. Check that out.
Cheers from under the Milky Way.
Cheers, Ropey
Told husband this is one song I want played at my funeral. So atmospheric
“ you took “
It’s an early song. Find it. A classic.
I was 17 and a senior (year 12 here in Oz) when this came out. It is still one on my favourite songs of all time, even 34 years after its release. The Church are an awesome band.
One of those songs you listen to in the dark with your headphones on at full volume ❤️
God I wore this cd out, so dreamy and hard simultaneously
Can you see how blessed we are in Australia? Growing up we heard the best from the rest of the world and our awesome music. Sadly if I grew up in other countries I imagine I would have missed the iconic Oz music and artists.
I'm an American, 80's kid and Australian and New Zealand bands were my favorites throughout high school: Crowded House, Ice House, Split Enz, Midnight Oil, INXS and SO many more! For some reason I didn't hear The Church until I was 25. (A boyfriend gave me the cassette.) Reptile is my favorite track.
@@starshake8998you're a rare one mate lol, but you've found out the gems you can find if you just do a little digging beyond your border
I agree with his voice. His name is Steve Kilbey. Awesome group. They have an extensive catalog with lots of great tunes.
INCREDIBLE, mind blowing band and song... thank you for reacting to this timeless masterpiece! These guys are consummate musicians, and they are still together (with varied personnel) after all these decades. 'Under The Milky Way' is one of may all time favorite songs spanning decades (i'm 60). Such a hauntingly gorgeous song!
Hey Wolf Hunters. I have wolves regularly running in my back acreage. Way Northern Minnesota. Had a 12 point buck looking at me yesterday. Always under the Milky Way. An Australian band captured it perfectly. Wish I knew what you where looking for. Might have known what you would find.......only the moments of impact. The moments of still and silence is the soup. Everything else is ingredients. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones who still sees the Natural Beauty. My head doesn't bob but my foot moves.
One of my alltime favourite AUSSIE BANDS AND TUNES !!!
THANK YOU GUYS !!!
This is my all time fav. Song. You're reaction is very cute though 😊 !
A while back, The Church performed their song Tantalized with an orchestra, and I think you guys would enjoy the energy of that performance.
They're in the middle of a USA tour as we speak.
As I heard this song here in Brazil... they were magical decades in music.
An absolute classic.
This is a big song.................................it carries a lotta water.
They were brilliant. Still love 'em. I played this with my band when I was in my 50's and at the end, several 20-somethings came up and asked, 'What was that milky way song?'
A fantastic song. Thanks Travis and Suzi for your reaction.
One of my favourite Aussie songs of all time. Beautiful ❤️
SO GLAD you guys dig this one!! Yeah this is one of those RIDICULOUSLY ADDICTIVE tuneages I can NEVER listen to just once LOL! I’ve hooked since it dropped like…decades ago now!
Great song, was lucky enough to see them live in about 1995 after they reformed. Steve Kilby has one of the most soothing voices around. Thanks Dei, great request 👍
Hotel Womb is my favorite track by The Church. Good find.
Australian music really does love its bagpipe solos
There is no bagpipes in this song...wtf
@@alexandersteffen7805 It's a backwards sample of african bagpipes played on a Synclavier. There is also an E-Bow guitar played over it which gives it some additional texture. So yes, there are technically the sound of bagpipes on the song.
Yes, AC/DC's It's a long way to the top if you want to rock & roll & John Farnham's Your the voice.
Got to see them a few years ago on the 30th anniversary tour of the Starfish album. The first set was every song on the album in sequence (just fantastic), and the second set was a best of the rest of the catalogue. They are so good live. - Dei.
Pleased to say I saw them live back in the early days. Very good band and Aussies of course
Dei is such a legend.
I just love this song ❤️thanks 🌏🪐🌕🙏🌸🇦🇺🐦🦋🏡🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Gotta say, it's the only Church I have any respect for. Amazing group!!
Guys. Well done. You got it with the "catchy" note. Its the very reason there was a punk culture in music at the start of the 80's. But here's the homework. Follow up on a Band called Australian Crawl. Singer called James Reyne. Guitarist called Simon Bink. Put it all together with AC/DC and you will find what you missed not being 19 in 1980 in AUS.
Quite possibly the most beautiful song of rhe last 50 years. 💯
Great band. So underated.. so many great songs.
So many great songs. Unguarded Moment is a classic for me too.
Steve Kilby is still out there doing stuff. I saw the Church a number of years ago. Such a treat.
If y'all come out to Oz we will have to try to swing it when there's some gigs so you can see the great music we have here
They have a new song out :)
@@zoeherriot oh they do? I'll have to chase that down, thanks
@@shirazzza it's called The Hypnogogue.
their songs Mesmerized and Reptile are amazing
THE CHURCH otras de mis bandas favoritas este tema me relaja esa guitarra acústica todo
🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Great band i like them since 82
one of my fave 80s songs! ♥
All good.
My second favourite aussie band right behind You Am I
Well, i sang along! I can't remember how many times I saw these guys live. One of my all time faves. Cheers!
One of my fave songs from my Era. Still on my regular Playlist.
Another amazing Aussie Band
Another Gem. 👍
Was a perfect song for Donnie Darko. That OST is 🔥
the soundtrack has so many good 80s songs on it!!!
I grew up mainly outside , much of it beach or forest, this song stained my heart with all the crazy stuff iv'e been apart of .
The Church are my favourite band. Currently touring US. Go see them
Nice to see some variation. Instead of everyone reacting to the same "mainstream" groups all the time.
Ah, 1980s Sydney ❤️
I was a Maiden, Priest, Crue fan when this came out, this should not have been "my thing", but this song was and is amazing.
Listen to the whole album of The Church "The Blurred Crusade". One of my favs. I'm with you. Love those bands, but these guys hit a nerve. Also listen to the song "Reptile". You will relate it to someone in your life for sure.
Australian rock Royalty right there.
For the record, it's not bagpipes. It's an ebow played on an acoustic guitar that came up with that.
My fave song.
It's actually a sample of African bagpipes played backwards on a synclavier (acording to Steve Kilbey). There is ebow mixed in there though.
Underrated band!!
The Church had some really great songs. Check out "Unguarded moment", "Almost wiyh you" and "Ripple"
The darlings of NME and British music press in the 80's. Like a lot of music, popular in Europe and everywhere else but unknown stateside!
Not totally unknown. I'm Aussie, but so many US movies and TV shows have used this song! Was recently in NCIS LA, only a few months ago.
@@jemxs Yes, but that's not the same as going TOP 10 on Billboard Chart.
Not sure about the NME, but they did have fans in the British music press. Ironically this song was much bigger in the US than Europe. Wonderful track from a genius album
Hey Susie that instrument in the middle of the song was apparently an ancient English instrument called a hurry gurdy not sure how to spell it sorry. hard to play as the sound only last seconds. But it’s a stirring sound that it makes. 👍
It's not bagpipes, lol. It's a synclavier (digital synthesiser)
Starfish was a great album.
Great reaction guys. Another Aussie overlooked by The USA. Shame because this and Unguarded Moment could have sold in the states. Many Aussie acts have covered this song. The Starfish album is consistent throughout.
God-forbid Suzi and Travis ever break-up. I think they’d live alone forever. I think they were made for each other…….New “bucket-list” entry: Gotta’ make my way to Cleveland, or wherever they perform. Truth. ✌️
Nxt song Reptile.
Reptile is a great song from them!
They are touring the States right now
Total make-out music...love The Church, awesome band. Check out Unguarded Moment or Metropolis by these boys if you get the chance, classics.
For me, The Blurred Crusade is their best, and they put out a lot of great records.
My favourite would be "2 places at once"...original video is good as well.
Nice review! Check out Reptile by them from the same album!
Nice to see you guys react to something out of your wheelhouse. May i suggest that you react to The Waterboys. The Whole Of The Moon and/or The Pan Within
Nice one Roger, I'm a huge fan of Mike Scott and his Waterboys.
This is the Sea and A Pagan Place are incredible.
I go nuts to " Don't Bang the Drum "
lol, she could not be more disinterested. It's a vibe song.
Reptile is a Church banger
They actually didn't use it the bagpipes. It was a 1980s guitar implement called the E-bow
You can make it sound like a violin and a good sustain notes forever. No bagpipes involved. Not that I'm opposed to the bagpipes.
Great info!
Boy, someone dug deep for this one. I haven't heard these guys in years.
I was listening to them in my car on the way to work today! ;)
brilliant song but . .soz no bagpipes went any where near this song .. its a ebow used in place of a plectrum and recorded on a synclavier.. maked the bagpipe type sound.
They have a new song out “The Hypnogogue” you should check it out
How are you reacting to all of my faves, both old and new! Jinjer, Liliac, Muse, Devin Townsend.... One of the only 80s bands I really liked. Hit the entire Donny Darko soundtrack for a treat. BTW - Liliac is dropping a new vid on Friday and kicking off their tour on Thursday.
Very Lou Reed quality to his vocals.
Susie, sorry a meant to say Hurdy Gurdy. In the previous comment.
Metropolis is another good song.
Classic of the 80s.
The wolf hunters honestly can you please do jimmy barnes - lay down your guns please, I think its damn worth it
mtv days!
React to Lions To Alaska (leaving you)
please react to Polyphia - Playing God it's amazing!!
Synclavier not bagpipes...
Synth bagpipes
They didn't do so well this 80s band ..The critics said their music / or style was ahead of time ..
The church led by a Brit living in Oz
Bagpipes???? When??? Wtf
A previous poster wrote that it was a guitar effect that sounded like bagpipes! So cool!
Sorry but the only thing the Church have done that justifies their existence, is Almost With You.
