I am a Tesla and Elon Fan but we don't exactly "Need" Tesla in India. We need more of Tata! Tata EVs are doing extremely well. Infact I have decided to book one. Having said that I am not against Tesla coming to India! We Indians can enjoy one of the world's safest mass produced and environmentally sustainable car! Peace.
I have a friend in India who own TATA Nexon EV from almost 2 years now. It is around 18K USD and drives 350kms on one charge, they find it cheaper to use than Petrol.
@@gaauravsharmaa4061 Regardless of range, the Nexon EV (and we have two) is about the fastest accelerating car at this and higher prices in the country. The Nexon EV is a performance car at 60 paise a kilometre. About a US cent penny per mile.
A decade back when I was running about India briefly I seem to remember a lot of power cuts. Everything changes over time but I wonder how that might effect say a regular commuter.
I have an e2o plus myself and oh I just love it for the small size, most of creature comforts, zippy in city traffic and for parking in tight spaces and prefer it over my Toyota Fortuner and many others. I wish they made more of these Lil cars.
e2o was a great car fir it's time. It shouldn't have discontinued. Mahindra seems to be working on atom but i don't think it would make its way to public.
Tata Motors understands the Indian Market. In India very few people do long road trips. People use Railways or Buses. The car is good for driving within Cities.

The top-end variant of the Tiago which is $14.5k would be a good second car for households in the US and Australia. The range is still smaller than most EVs but is perfect for daily commuting.
Here are few insider info from an Indian. 1. This is a global NCAP 4 star car. Global NCAP is less stringent than Euro NCAP. So, keep that in mind. 2. Indian MIDC standard is more optimistic than even WLTP. So, expect 30-50% lower range than stated depending on the condition/driving style. 3. Tata owns Jaguar Landrover and had been making prototypes for last decade, but officially started building EVs 2018-19. But, came up with a really solid architecture with their Nexon EV, which is a compact SUV, it has G NCAP 5 star rating and is a pretty solid car. And it has 40kwh battery in its higest variant and costs 20K USD approx. Tiago is their 3rd EV in the same architecture. 4. All three EVs made by Tata so far are variants of their ICE counterparts. 5. the 10000 usd price is that of the lowest variant of the Tiago and this prices are introductory for first 10000 customers. So, expect 10-15% price rise pretty soon. Also, tax for EVs and batteries are very less here in India.
@@KShauryaDwivedi I thought you were talking about these crash and fire problems specifically in Tata Nexon. As far as I know, Nexon EV has only 1 fire incident in its history (Mumbai incident) of 4 years and more than 30000 units sold so far.
Tata is not late to the game. They are the earliest in India to focus on electric vehicles. When all Indian car manufacturers were focusing only on petrol diesel vehicles, Tata motors is the only one to take the risk of producing Nexon EV and now Tiago EV. Sure, Hyundai and MG have bought a model but their sales are just 2-3% of total EV sales due to higher costs. Tata motors have done amazing job and huge respect for them. 😊
For those who don't know it has got 4 star safety rating in global ncap. I don't think those chinese boxy cars will score even 2. And nexon ev has 5/5 stars

Tata is a huge company apart from being an automobile makers, they’re into IT, services, telecom, electricity distribution, chemicals, retail, electronics, defence equipment, home appliances etc.
I think this car is perfect for India. A 10K car with low running costs that lets you run around your local area cheaply. I think it will sell well and expand the horizons of many Indians.
It is very pocket friendly. But the best seller is actually another car from TATA. Namely TATA NEXON EV. Check it out, a NCAP 5 star rated semi-SUV EV.
The way things are going, the markets for expensive cars are shrinking everywhere. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that. If we want mass adoption the prices need to come down anyway. I’m glad to see that battery technology is also moving in that direction.

I still own a Tata Nano..😊 bought it second hand (only 170 kms driven) for Rs 1,00,000( around 1250 USD) I don't drive it that often now a days.. but yes it is a practical vehicle..

I live in a suburb 48 KM from my work near Hyderabad, have solar panels on my home. My travel for majority of the time is free unless I have to travel with family. Working out well for the last 8 months, fingers crossed.
Just came from trip in india. Check out the Mahindra tiny ev car. tata has the nexon ev which is really the one everyone wants. Unfortunately Tata still makes the body for both ev and ICE so it's not that great yet. The good thing is they're switching the taxis- 3 wheel one, FAST. Which is great they have so many 2 cycle engines on the road. The biggest impact are the scooters, Ola(they're uber) made huge debut last yr w ev scooter and is selling like crazy, All Escooters are. But biggest flaw, they're not investing in charging infrastructure, so no one sees them them more than just city cars.
You are mostly right. So, I am adding few bit. Charging infra has picked up recently, Several private companies such as Statiq, fortum, Zeon,AArgo have pretty solid network in most part of the country. This is addition to Tata's dealer network in Tata and MG showroom, Hyundai/kia showroom and in petro pumps, and then there are govt installed AC and DC chargers in petro pumps.. All these have come up in last 1 year or so and it's picking up fast. The Mahindra small EVs are not sold anymore, they will launch their bigger Electric SUVs in q1 2023. The slower e-3ws had massive upticks from 2016 onwards, there are millions of them on road. Currently faster e-3ws are on the rise too. And e 2w sells are growing at an exponential rate since last 3 years. Ather scooters are best in terms of quality/performance/reliability more so than OLA(they are pretty good too), And Ather has strong charging network in 40+ cities, that has Tesla like hassle free charging and the scooters have OTA, navigation, call features.
@@Amuzic_Earth I saw the charging network for 2w, but not for cars. Yeah athers were great. Ola wins in style though. Not bad for first generation , can't wait for next one. I also saw Other e2w are all the same Chinese scooter wrapped with different brand name.

Its a perfect City car and for short distance, most people drive not more then 30 km a day. In the future get the electric cars so or so cheaper. Every new technology is first expensive, now goes the prices slowly down. Is good that Tesla is not anymore alone, more competitors makes the market more intresting.
Small correction in a nice article. It is Mahindra and Mahindra ( one of the bigger rival for Tata motors ) who are going to use VW EV platforms ( aka as skateboards ) .People who have watched formula electric might have seen Mahindra racing which is a factory team.
Planning to buy this car . I have two cars, 5 and 7 seater all petrol versions. Going to replace my 5 seater with an EV hopefully by next year after i move to my new place. FYI am also installing a full solar 10-15kvh for home and car use . Hope it goes through
Tiago's name was Zica but in 2016 zica virus cracked & tata change name from Zica to Tiago. Tiago with IC engine had 4 star Global NCAP rating we can assume Tiago EV will achieve same rating where it will differ from cheap EV products
Standard for city driving would a stop start every 200m, braking several times, rarely exceeding 30kmph! Nowadays I get to use 4th and 5th gear in my gasoline powered car only on highway.

I have been a Tata Tiago Diesel user since 2016 and this car has good driving dynamics. I have been in two accidents in both of them The car came out really strong. So the build quality is good. Except for some service issues, Tata has good products, in general.
For your info. Mercedes EQS , BMW i4 and Volvo XC40 Recharge are being manufactured in India. Soon Hyundai Ioniq too will start local production. But Elon Musk has ego problem with the govt. so Tesla is not yet in India.
Also another point most people didn't talk about is India already has great public transport system hence car market is not that big but definitely growing at a good rate.
Nah, our public transport isn't that good. Some routes are very punctual, some have huge delays. The reason most people don't have cars are 1. Cars are expensive, most people can't afford them. 2. Government taxes on cars and on fuel are too high. 3. Cities are crowded, it's a hassle to drive in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.

It makes no sense to have a car there (since the government makes car owning expensive) unless you want to save time and are able to invest the money. In India the public transportation is ok... It is very unreliable for time. Which is not great right... Considering cars are not accessible for everyone in India public transportation needs to step up.

The main thing I think is consistency. Timed buses really change that. I'm comparing with Singapore type places here. Which are definitely miles ahead. But I hear in the west is not that great. So I guess India isn't too bad
Funny you made a video about Tata(feeling proud Indian BTW), because you said in one your videos a few months back "Tata will be bought by a chinese company" and I did comment that Tata is huge, they cannot be sold, they are spread into almost every industry. What Toyota is for Japan, Tata is for India.
i like his videos but there is a western bias he is a good desk researcher - how can he understand that TATA group is much bigger than any automobile in the world and they are a trust and never sell their companies and so so. people work their whole lifetime in tatas.
@@randomrcp1223 while Maruti is immensely popular in India, Tata on the other hand is much more than an automobile manufacturer. Tata is the most trusted brand in India. Moreover, when it comes to commercial vehicles nobody can compete with Tata Motors at the moment.

I have been using a Tiago diesel for last 6 years and it's feature packed for its price and quite safe (have driven it at 160 KMPH+ which is handles quite well). The Tiago EV pricing is just perfect for middle-class city users and will get good response racing ahead of current largest selling EV - Tata Nexon EV. Hope TaMo also exports this to other RHD markets like South Africa, UK, Australia, Thailand as a cheap city EV and to compete with low cost Chinese EVs
Actually it is Mahindra (another Indian Manufacturer) that plans to use Volkswagen's MEB platform for its upcoming Born Electric range. Their deal is already signed and made official. Unlikely that TATA will use it too then.
And very soon in this January, Mahindra is also coming up with their xuv400 electric suv which claims 450+ km range and gives 147 hp power and 300nm torque

Tata will be leader in ev market, because tata has a good supply chain, tata has tata chemical to manufacturing advance battery cells, tata steel for making body, tcs and tata elxsi for software and electronics design and development, tata power for charging stations building, tata electronics for semiconductor and electronics part manufacturing, tata autocomponent for auto parts manufacturing. And also have a great brand value and marketing and supply chain team.
The driving cycle is decided based on “road load data” acquired by driving cars with strain gauges attached across the country in city, highways and ghat sections. The best fit is decided on the data collected considering driving behaviours too, using acc pedal data. Hence, it can’t be the same for every country. Run the risk of over designing the machinery for example.
Its already having a considerable waiting period of over 6 months here in India and this car is best suited for busy stop-start traffic within cities where you typically don't go beyond 50 kms in one go.
My first job out of engineering college was an apprentice with TELCO - Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co based in Jamshedpur that made Tata -Mercedes Benz trucks. That plant now makes Tata cars, and I agree - they can spearhead the EV revolution in India. I see increasing numbers of Tata nexons with the green license plates in Bangalore every time I visit. I may get one for myself. I see many gas stations with electric chargers in Bangalore off on the side these days.
This mini hatchback EV has advertised range of 315km while the practical range is actually about 225km. Tata also have a mini sedan EV called Tigor EV which also have advertised range of around 306km and practical range of 220km. That one is priced around $16k. Finally, they have 2 sub-compact SUV's - Nexon EV at $18-$21k and Nexon EV Max at $20k-$25k. The former has advertised range of 437km and practical range of 320km.
The range depends on how one drives it. It depends on the road conditions, car are optimised for certain driving conditions. Even the f..king tesla also will give less than rated in India. So don’t comment just to put down other cars. If TATAs are so bad how come Jaguars and Range Rovers are top end tech cars. So don’t bullshit.

DONT assume things there are a thousand possibilities. Even ICE also do not give ARAI range. The tuning and operations will affect the range. An EV or ICE stuck in a traffic jam is done for, both cars cannot give good mileage.

I own a Tata Nexon EV with 30.2 kw battery pack. Tata claims a range of 320 km and I'm getting 300+ km range leaving summers when outside temperature is more than 45℃. I am highly satisfied. I drive about 220 km every day.
I immediately thought of Sono Motors (SEV), who are producing a small EV/solar car for $25,000. This might knock them out of the market (if Tata's quality is good enough).
Hey buddy, first time watched your video, loved it. Although, I really don't think that it would be helpful to have the same standard worldwide because the conditions of road and traffic affect the car performance in a big way and these conditions vary nation by nation. So it is better to have a national standard because at the end every car company can offer their customers the exact information they need.
Actually in India, people don't drive very long, unlike USA. People just take Train, Buses or Plane for distant travel. Cities have multiple drop points for trains and buses. Upon arrival, we take Uber/Ola 9r Auto rickshaw (TukTuk🤣) from nearest drop point.
In China, Sunwoda and CATL have started mass production of batteries which charge to 80% within 10-15 mins, with long life. If Tata uses such batteries, the current 300 km range would be just fine for long journeys.
The Tata Group has around 2+ % share in the GDP of India and do a lot more than cars and vehicles. At the EV side they already have the Nexon EV on the road since around 2 years, though slowed by the virus it is picking up really well. This is an effort by Tata to try it in a cheaper segment, though models are already lined up for the 25000$ range
Not exactly $10k price, It will be limited to a few units of base low range versions of Cars. Usual price would be $12k for low range and around $14k for more range
I would strongly encourage people to buy TATA motors car or other things they are involved. They give about 2/3 of their profits back to people in way of charity. I hope they can enter US market.
W h a t e ve r s ta ndards you use, the mileage will still depend of driving habits and ro ad conditions. Th es e cars will give better range in US than India, as ther would 10000% start stops in India compared US. Even if EPA range is good, actual Indi an Road range will be smaller.
The picture that you missed while analysing Tata as an easy manufacturer is that that also has a company known as Tata Power which has the largest charging infrastructure in the company at the moment, Tata has another company called Tata elxsi which is in the field of software development, system design, integration and majorly provides it's services to the automotive sector. Tata chemicals can be steered to produce battery packs and even b🔋 cells. Tata Steel is a major producer of steel. Therefore in my analysis Tata motors electric car division is a Tesla in the making and that's the reason that I am invested in both Tata Power Tata motor and Tata elxsi. 🤗

I am from India buddy , since we import lithium from outside and Rupee devalues over time current account deficit caused by importing oil ! So manufacturing cars less than 10,000$ is difficult buddy, the TIAGO EV is the Entry level model as of now. Maybe when economy of scale kick in price drop if price of lihium drops or dollar index falls.
I would like to see both things happened , one universal charge of Nozzle worldwide ; plus universal unit of EV measurement for EV cars , EV motorcycle and EV scooters.
@@Berkhoi Not exactly. China and Japan are sticking to their GB/T and Chademo standards. Also, CCS cars in North America are not compatible with European Type 2 CCS and visa versa. Chademo had more promise to be a worldwide standard. Chademo chargers were deployed across the world, fully compatible with all Chademo cars.
I have sat inside a Tiago petrol MT recently in the showroom and interior & exterior are tastefully crafted. All New Tata cars are so pretty and have top GNCAP scores. A few Tata EV's pass daily before my home and I am so happy to see Knowledgeable and well to do Indians buy EV's of TATA MOTORS. But it's a long way to Go!
Looks nice, and there is probably a huge market ( larger than for current Tesla models) But for me? I would look for slightly larger, around 25k-35k. Having said that, will cars from India face a comparable punitive tariffs like there is on cars imported to India?

A friend of mine who owns the car did 2000k trip in India with his family couple of months ago and his experience was very good. Basically on charge of 97% you get about 220km on single go, but he never drove it completely. He used to plan and stop at places where there is EV charge facilities attached to restaurants so he never completely rode the distance on one single charge. There was one issue with car which was resolved for him in matter of hours by Tata and he had only good things to say about customer service centre (which is very unusual in India, only few brands have great customer service). Only issue is that only few hotels allow to charge cars overnight so best to use apps which list out the EV charging stations and businesses that supports it.
Road and driving conditions vary greatly by country depending on road network and quality, climate, driving habits, rules and enforcement. Driving in India is very different from Europe (not that the standards actually take all this into account, but that is how testing should be different i.e. what kind of performance can you expect where you live/drive).
Love from India here in India now our Government is very crucial in the EV sector they are fully supporting the EV sector and we India say a line that Tata means Trust and really Tata means Trust
Countries having their own driving cycles kind of makes sense as they cater to closely match the typical local driving style....although even then it may not be close to accurate. While Indian cars may seem cheap, they get more expensive as the manufacturers make their cars compliant with export country safety standards like say Australia. Some countries are more hilly, other are relatively flat, some are hot, humid, or cool .... these factors all make a difference to EV range. Having said that, it would still be nice to have a global standard to make comparisons fair. A USD$10,000 Tata vehicle could end up being about USD$15,000 due to additional market requirements and exchange rates. This doesn't mean to say that in India the safety features are not available, it just means that there are options for cheaper entry level models with fewer safety or luxury features. On a different topic, I am liking the diversity of this channel. Not being focused on any specific EV brand or topic... kudos.
The base entry level car has scored 4* in global NCAP ratings. Indian terrain differs with every state and there are about 30 states with each differing a lot from other! We have got beach/port cities in one state and then we've got world's highest motorable road in another! We've got vast sand dunes in one state and snowy state in another! We've got arid dry state and we've got states where it rains every day! So they won't sell a particular car to a particular state! Our vehicles complies and caters to each and every state in totality! So they're fit in that aspect too. Don't know if they'll export it or not but no parameters other than taxes and profit margin will affect the pricing if they do decide to export. Have a great day ahead!
Tata is making EV vehicle according to Indian customer's requirements, cost effective & self sufficient. Tata is not competing with any EV companies to show better with other competitor companies, it's main moto is to evolve in the EV platform in the automotive industry by taking it's time. India maybe lagging in EV's but has lot of potential for the growth.
IMO, Any EV that is not more than 150HP is actually truly "environmentally friendly" than EVs that have like 500+ HP Motors, I think Hyundai also made one, So I consider this a perfect EV.
Something that needs to be put into perspective is that Indians don't drive as much as Americans so having a lower range doesn't matter as much(the price is much more important). Also because we didn't have a Ford and GM lobby against public transport, metro and semi high speed regional rail is always an option over a personal vehicle
I have been using Tata Nexon XZA+ Diesel BS4 variant past 3 years, it’s not just a good performing car, safe car but also gives an excellent 25kmpl mileage. Now I would definitely own an EV from Tata.
As John cadogan says: For typical scenario, For ICE cars, you will get around 20-30% less FE and in EV you will get 20-30% less Range than what's claimed by manufacturer
Mahindra, Tata and Maruti Suzuki all make small no frills budget city cars - now they appear to be turning their hand to the small EV - could they be setting eyes on the rest of the world ?
They are slow in production, very slow TBH. They need to boost production & invest in other countries where they can be successful like developing countries.
Im from india, and this is pretty much a perfect second small car. Sure, its not exactly the best for long journeys but when it comes to city driving, its small size is going to make it sell like hot cakes. Im 15, so i have three more years before i can drive but when i do, it could be the tiago, since there is no way my dad is going to let me lay a finger on his a6 when im learning

I have an e2o plus myself and oh I just love it for the small size, most of creature comforts, zippy in city traffic and for parking in tight spaces and prefer it over my Toyota Fortuner and many others.

Tata Motors understands the Indian Market. In India very few people do long road trips. People use Railways or Buses. The car is good for driving within Cities.

Here are few insider info from an Indian.
1. This is a global NCAP 4 star car. Global NCAP is less stringent than Euro NCAP. So, keep that in mind.
2. Indian MIDC standard is more optimistic than even WLTP. So, expect 30-50% lower range than stated depending on the condition/driving style.
3. Tata owns Jaguar Landrover and had been making prototypes for last decade, but officially started building EVs 2018-19. But, came up with a really solid architecture with their Nexon EV, which is a compact SUV, it has G NCAP 5 star rating and is a pretty solid car. And it has 40kwh battery in its higest variant and costs 20K USD approx. Tiago is their 3rd EV in the same architecture.
4. All three EVs made by Tata so far are variants of their ICE counterparts.
5. the 10000 usd price is that of the lowest variant of the Tiago and this prices are introductory for first 10000 customers. So, expect 10-15% price rise pretty soon. Also, tax for EVs and batteries are very less here in India.

Tata is not late to the game. They are the earliest in India to focus on electric vehicles. When all Indian car manufacturers were focusing only on petrol diesel vehicles, Tata motors is the only one to take the risk of producing Nexon EV and now Tiago EV. Sure, Hyundai and MG have bought a model but their sales are just 2-3% of total EV sales due to higher costs. Tata motors have done amazing job and huge respect for them. 😊

I think this car is perfect for India. A 10K car with low running costs that lets you run around your local area cheaply. I think it will sell well and expand the horizons of many Indians.
It is very pocket friendly. But the best seller is actually another car from TATA. Namely TATA NEXON EV. Check it out, a NCAP 5 star rated semi-SUV EV.

The way things are going, the markets for expensive cars are shrinking everywhere. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that. If we want mass adoption the prices need to come down anyway. I’m glad to see that battery technology is also moving in that direction.

Just came from trip in india. Check out the Mahindra tiny ev car. tata has the nexon ev which is really the one everyone wants. Unfortunately Tata still makes the body for both ev and ICE so it's not that great yet. The good thing is they're switching the taxis- 3 wheel one, FAST. Which is great they have so many 2 cycle engines on the road. The biggest impact are the scooters, Ola(they're uber) made huge debut last yr w ev scooter and is selling like crazy, All Escooters are. But biggest flaw, they're not investing in charging infrastructure, so no one sees them them more than just city cars.
You are mostly right. So, I am adding few bit. Charging infra has picked up recently, Several private companies such as Statiq, fortum, Zeon,AArgo have pretty solid network in most part of the country. This is addition to Tata's dealer network in Tata and MG showroom, Hyundai/kia showroom and in petro pumps, and then there are govt installed AC and DC chargers in petro pumps.. All these have come up in last 1 year or so and it's picking up fast. The Mahindra small EVs are not sold anymore, they will launch their bigger Electric SUVs in q1 2023. The slower e-3ws had massive upticks from 2016 onwards, there are millions of them on road. Currently faster e-3ws are on the rise too. And e 2w sells are growing at an exponential rate since last 3 years. Ather scooters are best in terms of quality/performance/reliability more so than OLA(they are pretty good too), And Ather has strong charging network in 40+ cities, that has Tesla like hassle free charging and the scooters have OTA, navigation, call features.

Small correction in a nice article. It is Mahindra and Mahindra ( one of the bigger rival for Tata motors ) who are going to use VW EV platforms ( aka as skateboards ) .People who have watched formula electric might have seen Mahindra racing which is a factory team.

Standard for city driving would a stop start every 200m, braking several times, rarely exceeding 30kmph! Nowadays I get to use 4th and 5th gear in my gasoline powered car only on highway.

I have been a Tata Tiago Diesel user since 2016 and this car has good driving dynamics. I have been in two accidents in both of them The car came out really strong. So the build quality is good. Except for some service issues, Tata has good products, in general.

For your info. Mercedes EQS , BMW i4 and Volvo XC40 Recharge are being manufactured in India. Soon Hyundai Ioniq too will start local production. But Elon Musk has ego problem with the govt. so Tesla is not yet in India.

Best part about tata cars is their "safety rating"
I have been using a Tiago diesel for last 6 years and it's feature packed for its price and quite safe (have driven it at 160 KMPH+ which is handles quite well). The Tiago EV pricing is just perfect for middle-class city users and will get good response racing ahead of current largest selling EV - Tata Nexon EV.
Hope TaMo also exports this to other RHD markets like South Africa, UK, Australia, Thailand as a cheap city EV and to compete with low cost Chinese EVs

Actually it is Mahindra (another Indian Manufacturer) that plans to use Volkswagen's MEB platform for its upcoming Born Electric range. Their deal is already signed and made official. Unlikely that TATA will use it too then.

Tata will be leader in ev market, because tata has a good supply chain, tata has tata chemical to manufacturing advance battery cells, tata steel for making body, tcs and tata elxsi for software and electronics design and development, tata power for charging stations building, tata electronics for semiconductor and electronics part manufacturing, tata autocomponent for auto parts manufacturing. And also have a great brand value and marketing and supply chain team.
The driving cycle is decided based on “road load data” acquired by driving cars with strain gauges attached across the country in city, highways and ghat sections. The best fit is decided on the data collected considering driving behaviours too, using acc pedal data. Hence, it can’t be the same for every country. Run the risk of over designing the machinery for example.
Its already having a considerable waiting period of over 6 months here in India and this car is best suited for busy stop-start traffic within cities where you typically don't go beyond 50 kms in one go.

My first job out of engineering college was an apprentice with TELCO - Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co based in Jamshedpur that made Tata -Mercedes Benz trucks. That plant now makes Tata cars, and I agree - they can spearhead the EV revolution in India. I see increasing numbers of Tata nexons with the green license plates in Bangalore every time I visit. I may get one for myself. I see many gas stations with electric chargers in Bangalore off on the side these days.
This mini hatchback EV has advertised range of 315km while the practical range is actually about 225km. Tata also have a mini sedan EV called Tigor EV which also have advertised range of around 306km and practical range of 220km. That one is priced around $16k. Finally, they have 2 sub-compact SUV's - Nexon EV at $18-$21k and Nexon EV Max at $20k-$25k. The former has advertised range of 437km and practical range of 320km.
The range depends on how one drives it. It depends on the road conditions, car are optimised for certain driving conditions. Even the f..king tesla also will give less than rated in India.
So don’t comment just to put down other cars. If TATAs are so bad how come Jaguars and Range Rovers are top end tech cars. So don’t bullshit.

Tata's battery used in India is primitive compared to European, Japanese, let alone Tesla. The real range of Tata car are from research I have done because at one point I was planning to buy a Tata EV. Here in Sweeden where I am posted, I am leasing a Tesla Model 3 LR and it gives 85% of its advertised range compared to Tata's 65-70%.
I own a Tata Nexon EV with 30.2 kw battery pack. Tata claims a range of 320 km and I'm getting 300+ km range leaving summers when outside temperature is more than 45℃. I am highly satisfied. I drive about 220 km every day.
I immediately thought of Sono Motors (SEV), who are producing a small EV/solar car for $25,000. This might knock them out of the market (if Tata's quality is good enough).

Although, I really don't think that it would be helpful to have the same standard worldwide because the conditions of road and traffic affect the car performance in a big way and these conditions vary nation by nation. So it is better to have a national standard because at the end every car company can offer their customers the exact information they need.
Actually in India, people don't drive very long, unlike USA.
People just take Train, Buses or Plane for distant travel. Cities have multiple drop points for trains and buses.
Upon arrival, we take Uber/Ola 9r Auto rickshaw (TukTuk🤣) from nearest drop point.

In China, Sunwoda and CATL have started mass production of batteries which charge to 80% within 10-15 mins, with long life. If Tata uses such batteries, the current 300 km range would be just fine for long journeys.

The Tata Group has around 2+ % share in the GDP of India and do a lot more than cars and vehicles.
At the EV side they already have the Nexon EV on the road since around 2 years, though slowed by the virus it is picking up really well. This is an effort by Tata to try it in a cheaper segment, though models are already lined up for the 25000$ range

I would favor EPA range as the standard, simply because it is so far, the most realistic

The picture that you missed while analysing Tata as an easy manufacturer is that that also has a company known as Tata Power which has the largest charging infrastructure in the company at the moment, Tata has another company called Tata elxsi which is in the field of software development, system design, integration and majorly provides it's services to the automotive sector. Tata chemicals can be steered to produce battery packs and even b🔋 cells. Tata Steel is a major producer of steel.
Therefore in my analysis Tata motors electric car division is a Tesla in the making and that's the reason that I am invested in both Tata Power Tata motor and Tata elxsi. 🤗

Plus we r interested in ev but the problem is that there is not much charging station ,it's just 5 or 10 km away that's the issue we got.

I am from India buddy , since we import lithium from outside and Rupee devalues over time current account deficit caused by importing oil ! So manufacturing cars less than 10,000$ is difficult buddy, the TIAGO EV is the Entry level model as of now. Maybe when economy of scale kick in price drop if price of lihium drops or dollar index falls.
I would like to see both things happened , one universal charge of Nozzle worldwide ; plus universal unit of EV measurement for EV cars , EV motorcycle and EV scooters.
CCS has been accepted as the defacto standard worldwide as a charging connector.
@@Berkhoi Not exactly. China and Japan are sticking to their GB/T and Chademo standards. Also, CCS cars in North America are not compatible with European Type 2 CCS and visa versa. Chademo had more promise to be a worldwide standard. Chademo chargers were deployed across the world, fully compatible with all Chademo cars.
I have sat inside a Tiago petrol MT recently in the showroom and interior & exterior are tastefully crafted. All New Tata cars are so pretty and have top GNCAP scores.
A few Tata EV's pass daily before my home and I am so happy to see Knowledgeable and well to do Indians buy EV's of TATA MOTORS.

Europeans and Americans do it in each and every field where they feel their companies need support. There is no moral angle here for you to dig.
@@hanswitvliet8188 nothing of worth (the tag) has entered the Indian markets especially from the US companies. That's the reason they are complete failures. Guzzlers at best and overgrown, oversized tin cans, which can't compete with the Japanese in any detail.

A friend of mine who owns the car did 2000k trip in India with his family couple of months ago and his experience was very good. Basically on charge of 97% you get about 220km on single go, but he never drove it completely. He used to plan and stop at places where there is EV charge facilities attached to restaurants so he never completely rode the distance on one single charge. There was one issue with car which was resolved for him in matter of hours by Tata and he had only good things to say about customer service centre (which is very unusual in India, only few brands have great customer service). Only issue is that only few hotels allow to charge cars overnight so best to use apps which list out the EV charging stations and businesses that supports it.
Road and driving conditions vary greatly by country depending on road network and quality, climate, driving habits, rules and enforcement. Driving in India is very different from Europe (not that the standards actually take all this into account, but that is how testing should be different i.e. what kind of performance can you expect where you live/drive).

Love from India here in India now our Government is very crucial in the EV sector they are fully supporting the EV sector and we India say a line that Tata means Trust and really Tata means Trust
Countries having their own driving cycles kind of makes sense as they cater to closely match the typical local driving style....although even then it may not be close to accurate. While Indian cars may seem cheap, they get more expensive as the manufacturers make their cars compliant with export country safety standards like say Australia. Some countries are more hilly, other are relatively flat, some are hot, humid, or cool .... these factors all make a difference to EV range. Having said that, it would still be nice to have a global standard to make comparisons fair.
A USD$10,000 Tata vehicle could end up being about USD$15,000 due to additional market requirements and exchange rates. This doesn't mean to say that in India the safety features are not available, it just means that there are options for cheaper entry level models with fewer safety or luxury features.
On a different topic, I am liking the diversity of this channel. Not being focused on any specific EV brand or topic... kudos.
The base entry level car has scored 4* in global NCAP ratings. Indian terrain differs with every state and there are about 30 states with each differing a lot from other! We have got beach/port cities in one state and then we've got world's highest motorable road in another! We've got vast sand dunes in one state and snowy state in another! We've got arid dry state and we've got states where it rains every day! So they won't sell a particular car to a particular state! Our vehicles complies and caters to each and every state in totality! So they're fit in that aspect too. Don't know if they'll export it or not but no parameters other than taxes and profit margin will affect the pricing if they do decide to export. Have a great day ahead!

Tata is making EV vehicle according to Indian customer's requirements, cost effective & self sufficient. Tata is not competing with any EV companies to show better with other competitor companies, it's main moto is to evolve in the EV platform in the automotive industry by taking it's time. India maybe lagging in EV's but has lot of potential for the growth.
Good start by Tata, If they can go down to 8K with same Battery pack and build quality then it will sell like Hot cakes.

IMO, Any EV that is not more than 150HP is actually truly "environmentally friendly" than EVs that have like 500+ HP Motors, I think Hyundai also made one, So I consider this a perfect EV.

It takes only 10-15kw ot push a car @ 100kmh. Thus 50kw is more than enough for a car. But, 500kw is a load of fun.
Something that needs to be put into perspective is that Indians don't drive as much as Americans so having a lower range doesn't matter as much(the price is much more important).
Also because we didn't have a Ford and GM lobby against public transport, metro and semi high speed regional rail is always an option over a personal vehicle

I have been using Tata Nexon XZA+ Diesel BS4 variant past 3 years, it’s not just a good performing car, safe car but also gives an excellent 25kmpl mileage. Now I would definitely own an EV from Tata.

Because EV batteries should be maintained within 20% to 80% charge.

Mahindra, Tata and Maruti Suzuki all make small no frills budget city cars - now they appear to be turning their hand to the small EV - could they be setting eyes on the rest of the world ?
They are slow in production, very slow TBH.
They need to boost production & invest in other countries where they can be successful like developing countries.

Yes and also who owns the Jaguar landrover, and they are producing cars for several decades now. EVs since last few years.

Im from india, and this is pretty much a perfect second small car. Sure, its not exactly the best for long journeys but when it comes to city driving, its small size is going to make it sell like hot cakes. Im 15, so i have three more years before i can drive but when i do, it could be the tiago, since there is no way my dad is going to let me lay a finger on his a6 when im learning
