This is excellent. Always been a pink height castle tee and didn’t fully appreciate the higher tee could get me more distance. A tee is a lot cheaper than a new driver for distance.

Honestly, I’ve never considered it, the vlog was more to show what happens to trajectory. I may have even guessed that orange wouldn’t have gone as far due to more launch / more spin, but it didn’t spin anymore, and that’s why it’s gone further.

    • @PZXZP
      @PZXZP 8 месяцев назад +2

Yup. Absolutely agree with the findings as that is true for me too. Instead of trying to fit the swing to a universal tee height, why not fit the tee height to your swing. We shouldn't follow the pro's tee height (usually lower) but look at what works for us.

It won't help you get more distance if you don't change your swing to do so. This is why teeing up or down can be counter-productive. The real key to good golf is to understand why the ball flies as it does, and once you get that down you can improve your swing scientifically. But golf clearly exposes the fact that taking players out of their comfort zone will make their play worse until they adjust to the new configuration. The pros rarely exceed the cons until the player accepts the limitations of their previous setup and begins to explore the possibilities of the new setup.
Of course once they begin to make positive progress they are bound to learn something that can make their old setup work better. The main thing is that there are many ways to play golf well and some are better suited to certain situations than others.
You're going to take more than 60 strokes per round. How many more? That depends on how well you played the first 60.

I’ve used the orange castle tees for a couple of years. I do hit the ball very high but at soon to be 63, height equals distance unless it’s wind straight into the face. I use a Rogue ST LS driver and I think the higher you hit up the face the less spin you get, so tee em guys and let em fly. I use shotscope watch to collect stats and I’m getting 251 yds during winter in Kentucky playing 10x the last month in mostly 40° F weather.

Gary I switched to castle tees about a year ago. Reason I tee the ball a consistent height all the time, it just takes one variable out of the equation for every driver shot! After watching your fitting video with Sam I’ve experimented with loft, ball positioning and tee height. I tried moving the ball forward In my stance with my left foot at about 45° the ball now sits just forward of my left heel on a yellow castle tee my standard driver loft is 10.5° and my bad miss is right! This was making me hit high hard draws to hooks so then I put my loft down to -1° at 9.5° this would normally make me loose it way right but with the ball position and tee the same I lost the hookie ones and started getting high straight flights and if I hover the club at address and position the club 2 club heads back from the ball I get a lovely high straight to a baby drawing flight. My distance went up and I’m getting 280 + yds now. I’ll just add I’m 68 in may so not a spring chicken anymore but still play of low single figures and can still get it round in a few over par and if the stars all align under par at times when my back isn’t giving me Gyip!!

It might sound crazy this, but I think the colour and material of the bamboo tees ad a-bit of quality to teeing it up. Feels and looks a-lot more premium than plastic. I’m slowly converting to graduated tees myself, I’ve just got a load of 2 3/4 to use to first.

Its sometimes easier to not change anything static in a swing and just ask yourself to "do" something else.

The one thing I find odd about this is why the 3 different length tees? Many companies produce the longer tees with stripes on them so you just push them further in the ground to “tee it down”. And they are easy to see what level you put them at.

I'm a fan of higher tees to get more distance, and I hear a lot of chatter from my playing partners about it. However, the reason why I would use a shorter tee would be to flight the ball down or playing on uneven tee boxes when ball gets higher than my feet, to avoid a hook.

  • @carlr2837
    @carlr2837 8 месяцев назад

I gave up golf for 20 years, and when I came back, the first two things I noticed is how big drivers have become, and how much longer the tees are. I have gotten used to big heads on drivers, mostly, though, though they still seem a bit odd when I hit them off the deck. However, as for the tees, when I have tried hitting off a tall tee, I always go under the ball. It just seems to introduce another way to mis-hit the ball.

Had fitting recently for a stealth 2 plus hitting ball of white castle like always with old driver. Distance was good, launch was what they wanted but spin was much too high over 3000. This was due to negative attack angle. Moved to pink castle as the suggested to try and get positive attack angle which brought spin down to desired level. Been out on course when possible trying to get used to higher tee, difficult after many years of teeing it low but i will get there.
Your spin has reduced because you angle of attack is almost neutral of orange tee. So higher tee should reduce spin but increase launch.

I've tried just about everything. I can't imagine using just the one tee height for every driver shot. In fact, I routinely play in 2-3 club wind conditions. So downwind its a high tee, into, a shorter one.
With the higher tee, you just need to make sure your low point is well behind the ball (to avoid skying it). So I setup with the clubhead 4 or 5 " behind the ball.
The real danger I find with actively chasing hitting up on the driver is, it tends to leak into my iron play as well. And that ain't good.

I use my pinky finger to set my tee height consistently. I don't see the necessity to spend extra to buy Castle tees. I use the ball to stick my tee into the ground, then I stick the tip of my pinky into the ground next to my tree, and adjust the tee to be the same height as the crease behind my large knuckle on my pinkie. It works for me, and I always have the same height for my tee. Now, if I could only swing consistently, I would be a better driver.

Interesting stuff Gary, thanks. But I’m worried you were reacting to the tee height quite a bit so for me the results are interesting but inconclusive. Wouldn’t you need to have consistent swing speed, launch angle, and consistency of strike to make comparisons on tee height? For me this experiment is to test how the ball performs when struck on different areas of the club face. Spin and distance should change.

How I reacted to each tee was how I felt that I needed to react to strike the ball out of the centre of the club face.
How the tee makes you / me react is the whole point in the video.
Changing tee encourages different angles of attack, and you’ve got to test the tee heights to find out which one gives you the best numbers.
The data found is only relevant to me.

Gaz, if you still want to be a tee snob, then use normal white tee's with the height marked on them.
Some days, you might want to drive it lower so it's easier to lower the tee and keep the ball flight down.
Great videos keep uo the good work. 👍

I use the pink tee, when I try orange it works for a week or two then I get lazy and end up skying a few. Also with orange I need to move the ball further forward and start hitting big left pulls (although then feel great.)
Also, I've never seen anyone with a smash factor over 1.5 on a gc quad or a 160mph ball speed with 103 clubhead speed, that is impressive efficiency.

Tee height is a touchy thing for me. It I want a left tendency I tee higher and it flies higher. Farther because I also get 1-2 MPH faster. I'll place driver head a ball farther back at the start. Helps to make sure you swing up on it.

Very interesting outputs - if you were doing your driver fitting and the 3 drivers you were testing say Ping(white), Callaway(Pink) & Titleist(Orange) you would definitely choose Titleist. Feel free to use 3 other brands as not relevant if it was a true blind test and quite frankly there would not be that large gain as other test have shown between the big manufacturers..
So is the moral of the story is experiment with tee hight to get the best gain and safe over £600+😃

I use a tee with lines marked, I always tee it at 2 1/2 inches, but in winter on the mats I use a pink 2 1/4 inch castle tee. I can see the difference in ball flight and distance as soon as I had to use the pink tees off the mats. Lower and shorter with less carry distance.
Orange off the mats and it's sky hook territory 😂

  • @Wesley_Juakali

Has nothing to do with tee height but just with you hit more up on the ball because it is higher on the tee.
If you use the pink or white tee and try to hit up and has a launch angle of +-14 degrees it will go even further.
The only difficult will be that a lower tee will be hit lower on the club face which results in -2 degrees of launch so you will launch it lower again.
If you hit center face on white of a 9° driver and hit 4° up it will have the same result ;-)

How do you get a smash factor/ efficiency of 1.55 unless you have an illegal driver? And how is the ball spin rate nearly identical given dramatic difference in attack angle? Maybe your launch monitor has some issues?

I love castle tees for making it easy to always have the same height, but I have never found a castle 2 1/2" (i.e., between pink and orange). It would make sense - the whites are only 1/4" from the pinks, the next up (orange) should be 1/4" higher than pinks but they are a full 1/2". This might alleviate some of the understandable concern about skying the ball with the orange, which I have done.

Personally, yes I see increased yardage with it tee’d UP but; resultant of my inconsistent delivery, I also get penalized more often with mishits (high and low on the face).
