Thank you so much @LarryChenPhoto for sharing your competition school experience with us! We are beyond grateful that you chose NASA to get your racing license and we cant wait to see you in action at our events!
A good racer understand the "Art of Cruise" is what I was trained under. Understanding pace, posture, and situational awareness. Once you get past where to keep your eyes aimed (harder than it sounds for most) and you have some acquiantance with the layout/track it makes it much easier to move thru traffic and find lines. Keep at it Larry, Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast.
I started NASA HPDE when I turned 18. Eventually moved to TT, and now W2W. The most important thing is finding comfortability and having fun. Take it easy Larry it's all good. Stay in the moment and focus on performance not the result. Helps the nerves.
Great video Larry, thanks for sharing the experience. The racecar driver who was killed that day at the track was a coworker and good friend of mine. RIP Andrew we miss you.
Wow! Thank you Larry! Out of hundreds of videos watched- this has been, by far the best and most informative one I’ve seen for an amateur (wanna be) w2w road racer like me. Thanks So much again!!!💥💥💥
Wow, what a journey and experience. Hats off to the instructors for paying it forward and their attention to detail. It's great to know they are highly focused on safety. I'll never forget my drill sergeant back in the day telling me attention to detail may save your life one day.
Race start are what fully hooked me too! That was my first SE46 race weekend (I’m the driver who dropped in on Sunday). Can’t emphasize what you say about instructors enough. Steve and Dennis are both awesome dudes! Congrats on your license! See you in a few weeks?
Really enjoyed the new contents. It's always been great to see how you transcribed others around the world and with their passions about cars. But this video really brings it another level of just you, Larry. Glad you can share to the rest of us who you are! Cheers!
Thank you. Coming from a family unknown to racing, and hearing the stories that is it just “unattainable”…but knowing deep down it’s possible, this is a video I needed. When the path is unknown, this was a spark of light
Hey Larry, I thoroughly enjoyed your video, the real start of your racing life. It brought back alot of memories. I have loved cars since i was 3 yo. But, I was a late starter getting my comp licence at 42 years old. I circuit raced sports cars, open wheelers and tarmac rallied all over Australia, solidly for 20 years. Without blowing my horn, I had alot of wins and places over the years. I'm sure with your level of passion and seriousness, that yiu too will have many successes. Enjoy the journey, as I know you will 😍😍
Sick! LFG Larry! Nice work man and so stoked to see you going to that next level! Thanks for documenting this and inspiring the next generation (and myself)!
Thank you for this. I’ve been wanting to track my car safely and the best way and I think NASA’s HPDE is the best route to go instead of random track days. This sounds more rewarding as you complete more races. Please keep this series going and share it to us!
i really wish we saw this car more ... i keep going back in those longer videos u made some time ago about its build i really like it and i dont see many ppl talking about that car or its brother
Wow! I learned so much from this video. Not sure I will ever get to this level. I’ll just stick to my 3-4 track events per year. But this really got me thinking. I like how strict they are too. Definitely interesting. Thanks for the vid Larry!
Bought my Ultra Bee they day after you released the single track video on the Ultra. Within the week went to a 21/18 setup and some cockpit mods. I absolutely love this bike! It really shines in the woods and the gassers love to chase it.
An amazing video on your experience, thank you for sharing, I help run the HPD program for NASA SoCal and couldn't think of a better group of people to run with. Hope to see you racing with us the rest of this season and more in the future
I absolutely love to see this! I'm here for the journey and am actually starting off on it myself. I did my first autocross a few weeks ago and have probably done four events since! I am doing my first HPDE day soon. I started as an automotive photographer traveling, so you're genuinely inspiring me, and I dream of capturing you racing one day or racing alongside you! Thanks again for another fantastic video!
Rob Dahm posted a video a few days ago about him doing racing school with Radical SR8. It's one thing thinking you're drving fast - it's another actually understanding your car and what the race line REALLY is on the given track. Loading/unloading suspension, understanding tire grip, understand where you have to look and what weight transfer does to your car. That is a steep learning curve. Well, Rob wants to race his 3-rotor up Pikes Peak Hill Climb - any mistake there has high stakes consequences. ✌️
Hi Larry CONGRATULATIONS on passing the test i'm there right behind you on this journey and to film it too well one deserves what one puts in and your doing it for the passion a job well done📸🏎🍾🥂😎
I got a 1 year membership with NASA when I bought my 2024 GR Corolla Circuit Edition so I really want to do the same process. I won’t be using my GR bc I bought it specifically as a car to drive occasionally and keep for a very long time since it is actually a limited build car unlike my hellcat that I was sold being told it would be “Highly collectible and valued 10x it original price” bullshit (which btw I didn’t believe)but got it at $500 above msrp. However, I do think I’ll buy a GR86 and build it out as a track car for that purpose! Loved the video Larry, as always!!
This was really fantastic to watch. I don't think I would ever get a license, as I am just not near enough to any tracks, but I really enjoyed seeing the process.
Great video and driving! Brought back some good and PTSD type memories when I went through it! 👍🏽 to the instructors and NASA for putting together a great program
It’s like the military Larry once a driver you’re always a driver, you have to hit the track every now and then Sir. Because we never stop been a soldier 😊
Kudos to your peeps that video'd you from the stands and off course and to whoever had the presence of mind to put GoPro's on other cars to get footage of you.
This against your usual content, I bet this doesn't rack up a bunch of views and comments, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I've done a bunch of HPDE and time trial track days, but haven't taken that next step to get licensed. This was a great peek into what it's like and a little about what could be expected and learned. Thanks and cheers!
Honestly doing sim racing can really help. What you're talking about here is the same etiquette in sim racing. If you're not at least up to their door, then you back off and wait until you have a good run. You don't dive bomb, you don't edge them out with your front bumper to their rear bumper. If someone is faster than you just let them by, it's not doing any good trying to block them. All of that stuff, you get used to having patience and passing only when you have a clear opening. Obviously on sim racing you can't point each other through or anything like that of course.
Hey Larry! Just wondering will content you filmed in the Philippines be featured in your channel? Would love to see more car culture diversity content 🙌
I got a GRC and wasn't able to redeem this track day because the car had one previous owner. It sucks because this is my first experience with the GRC. Oh well, they told me I can have annual membership for $75 a year.
Safety. If you, or they need to extricate yourself quickly/safely from a vehicle. This rule has been written in blood. This video is a perfect case why these rules exist. Life is more imperative than a little aero.

19:55 RIP. This is a dangerous sport and I wish you the best of luck out there Larry!

I'm so sorry for your loss 😢

Man it sucks to hear about that accident. I could not imagine your mental state having to endure that while trying to get your license.

Awesome video. I really enjoy the videos of you driving or day to day life. Personal videos are fun. Keep up the good work Larry!
Was great to be in class with you! I was in the blue golf r, hope to see you out there soon!

It's the right car! My first time on track was similar. Once you get in the groove and calm down you gain confidence. Time in the seat is the key.
YESSSSSSSSSS we need more of this the experiences of ppl before during and after getting your competition license
Bought my Ultra Bee they day after you released the single track video on the Ultra.

Love this candid video into the entry into the road race world with NASA
More car enthusiasts learning about high performance driving and getting a racing license is a great thing. Welcome to the racer journey!

What a fantastic and heartfelt video Larry, thank you for sharing, and best wishes.

Thank you!🙏🏽

How the hell have I not seen your channel until now. Thanks for sharing!
It’s like the military Larry once a driver you’re always a driver, you have to hit the track every now and then Sir. Because we never stop been a soldier 😊
Larry, you are such a great presenter!!!
Mercy, #chenforpresident!!!
Happy for you Larry to enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Really great video, thank you for being so open and honest. 🙏
Awesome video. Thank you. Learned a lot.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. This was insightful and someday would like to be at your level.
I gave up on racing almost 16 years ago. Now I'm going back at it. I would love more info on this class.
*_This is the dream!_*
Kudos to your peeps that video'd you from the stands and off course and to whoever had the presence of mind to put GoPro's on other cars to get footage of you.
Love the info and woiuld like to see an update on your HKS turbo kit.
Come to Nationals at Utah Motorsports Campus!
I thought you were about to go driving with Astronauts! Good vid, and very informative!
Wow you’ll have to bring that by T14 sometime 😍 Congrats on getting out on the track, many never do!

Eh, if you haven't already noticed I don't care about getting views. I just shoot what I want and tell the stories I want 🤣😂
Amazing video, inspired me to do similar, good luck!
Really enjoyed the information. Also Race In Paradise to the fallen driver.
Thank you for sharing your experience. This was very helpful.
One of my favorite episodes

So you got the fulll experience. Jeez that is intimidating
Loved this Larry,

Hey Larry! Just wondering will content you filmed in the Philippines be featured in your channel? Would love to see more car culture diversity content 🙌
Illuminating
The jokes from your peers are what keeps us from messing up AGAIN !!
My peers keep you all from messing up again? 🤔
@@Phakhue 🤓
Great video
Such an awesome vid
What is the opening?
I got a GRC and wasn't able to redeem this track day because the car had one previous owner. It sucks because this is my first experience with the GRC. Oh well, they told me I can have annual membership for $75 a year.
Your car looks sick by the way. I commend you for getting out there, and trying. Not everyone can do track days I'm sure.
*_Damn R.I.P to that driver…_*
This topic has me intrigued. Thanks for sharing Larry, I had no knowledge of this this process until now.
Spoiler looks a little shaky, i hope its secure
I wish we had this in India :(
I would never understand why trackday here in U.S. requires us to have our windows down, they affect the aero of the car.
Safety. If you, or they need to extricate yourself quickly/safely from a vehicle. This rule has been written in blood. This video is a perfect case why these rules exist. Life is more imperative than a little aero.
Is there an age limit? Im to old to become racer Im sure, but would love to just learn how to drive better
trying to trick with flags is pointless and nonsense in training in my opinion.
Why? That stuff happens all the time.
