The perspective of Tony looking at the diner's entrance every time the bell rings is indeed a crucial element in the final scene of "The Sopranos" and plays a significant role in the theory of his demise. This theory suggests that the repetitive shots from Tony’s perspective, followed by the sudden cut to black, symbolize his death. Here's a detailed breakdown of this interpretation: 1. **Point of View Pattern**: Throughout the final scene, there's a consistent pattern established where the camera shows Tony looking up every time the bell rings as someone enters the diner. This is followed by a shot from Tony's point of view, showing who is coming in. 2. **Reference to Earlier Conversation**: In a previous episode, Tony and Bobby Bacala have a conversation where Bobby speculates that if you were to get whacked, it would happen suddenly and you wouldn’t even realize it - "everything would just go black." This conversation is often cited as foreshadowing the final scene. 3. **The Man in the Members Only Jacket**: The scene pays particular attention to a man wearing a Members Only jacket who enters the diner. This man later gets up and goes to the bathroom, which some viewers interpret as a nod to the famous scene in "The Godfather" where Michael Corleone retrieves a gun from a bathroom before committing a murder. 4. **The Cut to Black as Tony’s Perspective**: The theory posits that when the bell rings and the screen cuts to black instead of showing Tony’s perspective, it signifies that Tony’s perspective has ended - implying his death. The abruptness and the silence of the cut to black mirror the earlier conversation about death being sudden and unknowable from the victim's perspective. 5. **David Chase's Intentions**: While David Chase, the creator of the show, has been notoriously tight-lipped about the exact meaning of the ending, he has mentioned the importance of the POV (point of view) shots in that final scene. Some interpret his comments as supporting this theory. 6. **Audience Involvement**: This approach to the ending also serves to directly involve the audience, making them a part of the scene. When the screen cuts to black, it's not just Tony's experience; it's also the audience being cut off from the story, leaving them to contemplate what just happened. This perspective on the ending suggests that the cut to black signifies Tony's death, experienced from his point of view. It relies heavily on the established pattern of the scene and the thematic elements woven throughout the series.
David Chase said in a recent interview that the ending is supposed to SUGGEST that tony COULD have been killed there. But I think he really just did die. Also they hit Uncle Philly in front of his family, and that a no-no.
In another interview, David Chase said that even through all of his faults and all of his evil, we have learned to love him and that he couldn't stand the thought of us seeing him with his face down in a plate of onion rings
@@Fleig.yeah that’s the main thing. It all makes sense when you consider the families. It seems to line up with the story of Joe Gallo in real life, who was given permission to have Joe Colombo killed but had it done in front of his family, which ended up with him being killed in in front of his family at Umbertos
Tony clearly got shot and that was his pov for the end, and much better than a traditional expected ending imo. Also, it clearly is a good way to end the series because ppl still talk about it and theorize about it today 15 years later. I loved the ending, and I still do...the series starts with Tony (sitting at Melfi's waiting room), and ends with Tony, seeing his daughter come in to the diner, and at the same moment, gets shot in the head....I'm from a generation that likes open endings, in shows and movies, most of this generation wants everything to be explained....
When it aired, originally? Millions of people (myself included) got up to check their cable boxes! 😆 David Chase wanted to leave out the end credits, but he couldn't do that without violating union rules, lol. He ended it the way he wanted to end it. You'll have to sleep on it, like everybody else did. I eventually was ok with it. Even if Tony survived? He was probably heading to jail.
RIP Tony. In my head canon, Silvio survives, goes into WitPro and moved to Lillehammer, Norway. You can see the rest of that journey in the show "Lilyhammer." It won't do YT numbers, but to me, it was a dope lil' series.
Remember Chrissy’s 3 o’clock message. It doesn’t just mean time, it can also mean direction. The guy going into the bathroom (who was wearing a member’s only jacket like Eugene) was at Tony’s 3.
We all felt how y’all did when it ended more or less lol. You do really have to re-watch and catch a lot of the subtleties along the way and then the subtleties in the last scene alone, it’s really not an ambiguous ending at all. Tony died, got clapped right in front of the fam.

That junior and Tony scene was great junior immediately knows they played catch together. Also showing the love that Tony had for junior without saying it.
You don't even hear when it happens right. Bobby's prophetic words. Those last ten seconds ..all black. That was Tony's pov. He was dead. Everytime the bell rang he looked up to see who was coming through the door they showed us Tony's pov looking at the door and who was coming though. But when meadow came through the door and they showed us Tony's pov it was all black because he had been shot by the man in the grey members only jacket who went to the bathroom to Tony's right. Tony got shot from the 3 O'clock position thats what Christopher told him and Paulie in season 2. He got shot in front of his kids and wife because that's how Phil got shot. There's a whole post-sopranos universe on Google reddit. Welcome to this world.
Greatest finale of all time. You guys keep asking “was it going somewhere” the answer is yes , it was going somewhere and it went there. It’s a show that makes you think, so think.
The first time I saw it, I was so mad. But every time it got better and better, and now every time it cuts to black im like wow that was the best ending ever. It puts the onus on the viewers instead of spoon feeding it to us and wrapping it up with a bow. The 🐐 ending ever!
Love the ending. Very much the opposite of breaking bad were you get everything you want. This left you wanting more and got my gears spinning in overdrive. Obviously he got killed and if he didn’t the end is near.
Formal you’re right. If it’s not obvious Tony is dead. I think the show runners thought the audience was smarter than we were at the time. There were multiple context clues to him dying. -Episode starts with funeral music and Tony appears to be in a casket -In the boat with Bobby: “I bet you don’t even hear it” -Sil in the restaurant when they shot that NY guy: “he was gone before I heard the shot” Tony and the door in the restaurant: the bell rings and Tony looks each time. We’re seeing Tony’s perspective. So when Meadow walks in the bell rings. Tony looks and it fades to black. It’s black because Tony is dead and sees nothing because he’s gone. He’s likely shot by the suspect looking dude who went in the bathroom. And if you’re wondering who popped him. My money always been on Patsy being behind it
“The final episode should just hit” all of the emotional reactions that you felt in the final sequence were intended, but the last scene was shot from Tony’s perspective. This might be the greatest ending to a series in TV history-they foreshadowed this ending since episode 1 of season 6. You said it seemed dumb, but y’alls reaction proves it wasn’t, because y’all conversation was the intent of that ending. Hope you’ve gestated on this ending and changed your opinion. The ending of Tony Soprano’s story wasn’t supposed to feel good. Rewatch the series 1/2 more times. You’ll see. Honestly your reaction was the exact same as most people’s first time: too many loose ends, they took the easy way out etc; but it takes a lot of balls to just cut to black. Sopranos is a series with symbolism that is inferred or sublimated under traditional motifs. Remember that it started out as a black comedy/satire-and ended with a psychological message.
Their entire point was that the show specifically the finale should "just hit" they don't want to have to watch it a couple more times. It should hit the 1st time
I felt so betrayed by the finale at first but I later came to think that it ended logically with Tony being “clipped” just as he had done to so many other people. It was his time.
Woke up this morning (no pun intended) and saw that the finale reaction was up! So I made a big ass breakfast and warmed up a slice of leftover pizza from last night. I sit down to start eating and fired up the reaction; and then these FOOS whacked ME! 😂😂…. I had to eat my food watching the news instead 🥲🥲
"You probably don't even hear it when it happens" - Bobby The ending feels like a cop-out at first because as an audience we're so accustomed to getting that clear, immediate resolution in the end. But after a couple days of thinking on it, you kinda realize that's basically in line with what the rest of the show was about. Junior getting indicted, Janice shooting Ritchie, the FBI almost nabbing Tony and then getting switched to focus on anti-terror after 9/11, Livia dying right after getting pinched for those stolen airline tickets, John getting arrested, Butchie getting cold feet and selling out Phil. A lot of these plots get resolved in the most inextraordinary, anti-climactic ways and Tony rarely has to directly confront his problems squarely like traditional protagonists do, just the circumstances and dumb luck of life comes around in a lot of cases. It's more about what those events do to the characters and how they react then the plot itself, that's really about .What will showing Tony's death accomplish when this man has been dying a spiritual death for the last 7 years. Tony really died for me on that mountain after killing Chris and feeling nothing and shouting "I get it!". This soulless fatso that looks like Tony isn't the same man from season 1. "Isn't that what you said one time? Remember the good times?". Tony doesn't remember saying that because he's changed so much from the season one finale, where after having his uncle try to whack him, his best friend finding out about setting the restaurant on fire and finding out his mom on some level hated him his whole life Tony was still able to show gratitude. He doesn't remember that because that Tony is gone and that's a more impactful death than seeing some bullet fly through his head like we already seen on so many hits in this show.
Dude! It really stung watching the finale live. I thought my sister sat on the remote.😅 we had to rewind it. You'll see random sopranos clips and give it another watch. I was pissed for years. Watched it again during the pandemic. You love the show again. Remember There wasn't TV shows about the bad guy. Yes. Shows had bad guys in them, but no shows about the bad guy. Nothing beats dexter on finales, they got to disappoint me twice.

I think this ending was done for SHOCK value and JUST IN CASE if the series would have continued somewhere down the line. Unfortunately, Jim Gandolfini died a few years later. But, yep, he definitely was shot that moment. This series could be and has been interpreted so many times and in so many different ways.
I personally think that the ending is quite masterfully put together. The way I see it, the audience began peering into Tony's life starting with a cut from a black screen without any information of what happened beforehand. In the finale, we leave in the same fashion, not knowing for sure what happens afterwards. I think that we as the viewers are not owed a nice clean little bow on the story. But the clues are definitely there, and I think Tony did get a bullet in his dome. He was slipping, his crew was slipping.
The last scene you see random strangers entering the diner and its left up to you to speculate what happened to Tony and his family when Tony looked up and the screen cuts to black.
Great series reaction! Loved it all, and I loved this ending. Like Bobby said, you probably don't even know when it happens...and Tony long ago said for a high profile guy, you end dead or in prison. Prison was looking likely. The guy in the members only jacket looked like a hit man and as far as I'm concerned he was and Tonys story/life ended with a sudden cut to black. Breaking Bad ended well, Sopranos ended smart
For me, personally, this ending makes more sense than Breaking Bad and The Wire, I get that you guys hated😊 it, but ultimately your thoughts on the story were perfectly in line with how they ended it.

And being a bunch of 20 yr olds watching this over at a friends house, we were scrambling checking the satellite dish/cable, even asked the neighbours if there cable ext was working? Then after what seemed like a lifetime, we all saw the credits and then all you could hear was glass shattering and new flat screen TV’s being tossed right out the windows/ doors of so many homes ( which was hilarious ).
Cheers and thanks guys!
I was pissed about it when it first aired but as time progressed, I appreciated the ending. Bobby said you probably won’t know it when it happens and Tony didn’t. David Chase has since confirmed that Tony got blasted. Shit happened in front of his family. I’m good with not seeing that. I do agree Dr. Melfi cutting Tony off was sudden and wrong.
Besht onion ringsh in the shtate, ash far ash I'm concerned!
I hated the ending at first, but after rewatching it, and watching videos analyzing the episode i saw so much hints that Tony was going to die at the end just like Phil, even if he didn’t die he’s still gonna go to jail and end up like John. it’s also a callback to his conversation with Bobby about how you probably don’t know it happened.
(also remember when Patsy said “It won’t be cinematic”)
Tony was taken out just like ‘The Hair Doo’ did while dining with Sil.😎
RIP Tony and the patron who caught the stray round.😎😁
I know Sal Vitro was somewhere in that diner. Buddy was done doing free landscaping. 🔫
Man, been a fun time watching w you guys. Salute
Sopranos finale >>>>> BB finale
@@k.23_02 it did too lol. If you watch it more than once you will notice all the subtleties and foreshadowing, especially the last half of the season. And all the subtleties in just the last scene alone. It’s not ambiguous at all. Anybody that says it’s lazy is just lazy themselves in most cases lol.
I’ve watched the series more times I can remember and these guys picked up on things I’ve never noticed. Great job guys. Really entertaining.
Nah.. you can’t be teasing us like that lol
fr 😆 I already know they hated the ending. Let's get this over with lol
You asked '' Please stop ! '' and they did, right on cue. You should be happy. 😂 I watched that series about 15 times. Best show ever. Even with that weird ending. It was fun watching it again with you guys. Thank you for the ride.
how the hell do you watch this series 15 fucking times? I could barely get thru it the 2nd time
@@bluecomet1109 Because it's a work of art. The more you watch it the better it gets.
If you want to see how an actor can make the most in short screen time, watch Killing Them Softly. Gandolfini is brilliant.
True Romance as well...his scene with Patricia Arquette 🔥
Uncle Junior, in his old age confusion/dementia, thinks Janice is referring to Bobby Kennedy, who was killed at the Ambassador Hotel in L.A. in 1968.
Here's a detailed breakdown of this interpretation:
Maybe not in the short run or on first reaction, but in the long run it was a great ending. Enjoyed all the reactions to the series tho guys, one for the books.
every time the bell rings it shows Tony’s POV when the bell rang at the end it cut to black bc he was shot by the guy that went in the bathroom
How yall think we felt watching this on cable. A complete black screen then credits.
@@BigItalian_Chesseburger well there are two reactions. Low IQ = angry and confused and normal IQ+ understanding the ending completely and liking it.
@@DeadlyVax
Or you can understand it and still think it's lame. Sorry to tell you just because someone doesn't like your high art ending doesn't mean they're stupid.
I knew Formal wouldn’t rock with the ending 100%😂
Personally I was pretty upset when I first watched the series. But the ending matches the theme they setup. “The life” ends in jail, in the dirt, or a flip
I always loved it, but too predictable that he wouldn’t. It is some juxtaposition with how he enjoyed the therapy sessions and Tony and Carm’s relationship. But an ending that is isn’t nice and tidy and/or blood bath, not good enough. I can tell you, i barely remember the BB finale. The last scene sure, but episode as a whole nope. It’s finale few episodes were excellent though.
BB is far superior.. I do love sopranos though.
You're smoke all that blue meth@@cecillegravelle2590
@@LaCheeserie I disagree. Breaking Bad is one of the few shows where the ending shined brightest. Felina is the closest you can get to a perfect finale.
@@unc54 I will not argue against its greatest, I love BB
Going miss you guys,, thanks for the ride !
More to come!
Feel how you feel. Most felt the same way, numb. It took a while for me to reconcile, accept, and appreciate the ending. When we watched in real time we thought our cable went haywire. LOL!
🎵Up n da club!🎵
You probably don't even hear it when it happens. Priceless reaction to the ending! Thank you guys for thos amazing journey! Every rewatch brings something new with it, some new layer or insight... The Sopranos is the gift that keeps on giving as you mature with it, best TV series ever!
"You probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?" - Bobby Baccalieri
You guys didn’t catch that Paulie was the only one sitting out in front of the store? He’s pretty much the last one left.
😢
I feel like Paulie Knew Tony was gonna get clipped too. Just a theory tho.
You didnt catch Chris drive past i bet 😂
@@woahblackbettybamalam I didn’t. Kinda spooky.
I went crazy checking my TIVO thinking I lost connection when this scene popped off back in 2007. I’m still upset to this day. 😂 I re-watched the series 7-8 times in full. I still hate the ending.
Jeez stunads. Tony was clipped at the end. Stay away from the penguin exhibit.
Didn’t he almost drown in two inches of water?
You reachin lol. I never thought about that before though haha
@@anomiemnemonical578 Alot of people believe the whole 3 o'clock thing was put in there on purpose.
no he isn't lol, there's clues all throughout the show@@anomiemnemonical578
Has been a great journey with you guys!
We all felt how y’all did when it ended more or less lol. You do really have to re-watch and catch a lot of the subtleties along the way and then the subtleties in the last scene alone, it’s really not an ambiguous ending at all. Tony died, got clapped right in front of the fam.
To wait 3 fucking days for the finale? It's a fucking disgrace. But I'll serve my time quiet. 3 fucking days, and not a peep.
I'm go watch da bloomberg in the meantime.
I know the ending is ass but after I thought about it, it was a good way to show Tony’s death.
Sil didn't die, he went to Lillyhammer
factual
ngl the first two seasons of that show are good but they lost me w S3
Remember when he and Bobby on the lake talking about dying or getting wacked? Bobby said he thinks the lights will just go out and you won't know what happened? Lights out.
Your reaction at the final scene is more than understandable. Now watch season 6 again with all your attention dedicated to it and it’ll click.
I don't think they have the patience to do that. They have said as much.
The most famous parking scene of all time.
If you drive a car long enough for the engine and exhaust to heat up, it will 100% catch on fire if you park it in a lot of leafs.
Watched this whole series with yall waiting on the reaction of Phill’s head getting ran over 🤣😂
Pretty crazy how Agent Harris even began looking like Tony. The big bald spot, laying in bed cheating with another broad. Lol dude was Tony on the other side of the law
The head agent did say that field guys can become corrupted and get close to the criminal side. This was that prediction come to life.
It's been so awesome watching your guys reaction to imo, the greatest show in TV history. Sure we break ballz here but FRR goes way back. And I just want to say it an honor to be joined by men in the comment section. Commendatori!
Watched all your reactions to Sopranos.
Ive seen it in full no less than 5 times....you see and hear more every time.....
Remember Bobby telling Tony "you probably don't even hear it."
Imagine watching it for years and waiting like two years for the final season.
That junior and Tony scene was great junior immediately knows they played catch together. Also showing the love that Tony had for junior without saying it.
Thank you gentlemen.
Our pleasure!

I'm crying lmfaoooooooooooooo
Welp, twas an amazing ride with y'all. Thank you for these amazing reactions to my #1 favorite show 😩🤌🏽❤
Greatest finale of all time. You guys keep asking “was it going somewhere” the answer is yes , it was going somewhere and it went there. It’s a show that makes you think, so think.
Exactly
-Episode starts with funeral music and Tony appears to be in a casket
-In the boat with Bobby: “I bet you don’t even hear it”
-Sil in the restaurant when they shot that NY guy: “he was gone before I heard the shot”
Tony and the door in the restaurant: the bell rings and Tony looks each time.
It should hit the 1st time
So ironic that after faking dementia to avoid jail the character actually ended up with dementia
LMAO, I wished i could do a poll on ""who would be madder at the finale, Formal or Brawlik"
"You probably don't even hear it when it happens" - Bobby
The ending feels like a cop-out at first because as an audience we're so accustomed to getting that clear, immediate resolution in the end.
Woke up this morning, got some gabagool
What a ride it’s been. Thank you both so much
I think the ending was us, the audience waking up. . .

Watching this live when it aired you could hear screams coming from houses that thought the cable went out
When this finale first came out, people were livid and apparently David Chase actually got threats
I think this ending was done for SHOCK value and JUST IN CASE if the series would have continued somewhere down the line. Unfortunately, Jim Gandolfini died a few years later. But, yep, he definitely was shot that moment. This series could be and has been interpreted so many times and in so many different ways.
Just watched the series in 2 weeks with the guys.. it was a wild ride(well done!!)
Remember what Bobby said “u probably don’t even hear it when it happens” Tony never heard the shot.
The last scene you see random strangers entering the diner and its left up to you to speculate what happened to Tony and his family when Tony looked up and the screen cuts to black.
You both felt like something was going to pop off and it did.

YO! You guys made my night! Your faces were priceless! So many questions….and you can’t find the words….✌🏻 ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️🔥
Tony got wacked.....It's a crazy ending.
Never forget what Christopher said to Tony after his near death experience in season 2: “in hell Mikey said to tell Tony and Paulie: 3oClock”
Tony got shot from his 3oClock
On his right when the man exited the bathroom
Also on his right was a photo of the house he saw Tony B at in purgatory/ his coma dream
For the record Paulie got his cancer diagnosis at 3am earlier this season
That's why we put the troll video at 3am
