  • Blowin' or Blowing in the Wind info:
"Blowin' in the Wind" is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962 and released on his album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan in 1963. Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war and freedom. The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described[by whom?] as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".
In 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, it was ranked #14 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
    -----------------------------------
    Peter, Paul and Mary:
Peter, Paul and Mary were an American folk-singing trio whose nearly 50-year career began with their rise to become a paradigm for 1960s folk music. The trio was composed of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. After the death of Mary Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names.
Mary Travers has said she was influenced by Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Weavers. In the documentary Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On - A Musical Legacy members of the Weavers discuss how Peter, Paul and Mary took over the torch of the social commentary of folk music in the 1960s.

I would love to see the Dove sleep in the sand, but too many would destroy it, just to be proud of being stupid. Today we seen another group of children slaughtered, How many death wiill it take till we know,
That too many people have died....

Mary was such a fox back then! She was enchanting to look at & listen to. She provided the feminine counterpoint to harmonies with Peter & Paul that offered a sentimental longing for better days, expressed in her voice and her facial expressions. Together, Peter, Paul & Mary carved a niche as the epitome of Folk Singers, a spin-off of the Blues tradition of emotionally expressing the pains of injustice, separation from loved ones, & hard-luck. There will always be a strain of Americans who feel this deeply, and see the beauty of humanity in Mary's face.

Blowin' and Puff, The Magic Dragon are their two most enduring songs from the early '60s, IMHO. Bob Dylan wrote it, but PP&M nailed it for all time with their version that hit #2 on the pop chart. Rolling Stone named it the 14th Greatest Song of All Time in their Top 500 list.

Well said, Sim. Very well said. I had the great good fortune to see PP&M in concert a while back. Her voice, even at that advanced age, was no different from what we hear on this video. Write and share them with your children or others and he will live forever. To me a life remembered is a life that never ends. When born, a physical end is the inherent part of life. I just want to give a shout out to the bassist on this recording, Richard Kniss, who you can see off to stage left, obscured in shadow, at the end of the video. This is absolutely the definition of great bass playing for this style of music: The bass part never draws attention away from the vocals, but if you start listing for the bass part, you will realize that he is adding a lot to the song, and I guarantee if you took that part away, the performance wouldn't have the emotional impact it does. Mr. Kniss played with PPM for decades, knowing that most of their fans would never know his name. RIP Richard.

After living 74 years and going serving my country from 66-69, I have seen a lot of things happen in this country. I managed to get through college on my own, with the help of Uncle Sam and a good wife who worked all her life. I even managed to get a Masters Degree and work over 40 years helping other people. During my life, I have always tried to do my part to make the world a better place but I realize now that will never happen. This is Veteran's Day 2021 and I have received a lot of texts saying "thanks for your service". While I do appreciate the thanks that many show us veterans, my prayer is that no more will have to serve and althought I am proud to have served, I wish that I had not had to. When I see leaders who evaded their sacred duty to serve , I know they really have no clue what it means to owe duty and gratitude to one's nation. It really enforces my belief that when the end comes, America will have long ended. I have never been able to find the word America in tbe Bible yet, but I am still looking. Just as it was during the days of this song, the answer is still blowing in the wind.

There are just sometimes when you know the voices blend and Peter, Paul and Mary ranked up there with Simon and Garfunkel for that kind of "Sound". Folk music gave way to rock and roll and the world moved on but....Please remember that a lot of singers and song writers in those days made their statement to the world. If you know the lyrics.....aren't the questions that they asked still with us today my friends. And I guess we are still asking those same questions. I guess the answer is still....."Blowing in the Wind"

I had the good fortune to see Peter, Paul and Mary in concert about 10-15 years ago. They were as mesmerizing and wonderful as in this clip. Rest in peace, Mary. I'm afraid we will never see your like again.

As a child in the 60's, this was one of my favorite songs. But more for the melody than for the lyrics. I hadn't heard this song in years. But now, listening to the lyrics, and applying them to the modern day....O.M.G. !!!!!!!

This song is timeless. The answer is within all of us if we would just listen..listen to one another. Respect one another. It is much more difficult to be hateful than to be kind and caring. ♥️

I was so in love with Mary as a young boy in those days ... and ya know ... I know she is gone now ... but that love .. crush .. dream .. whatever you might want to call it ... is still in me as strong as ever. I think that love did me right .. it drove me to put women on a pedestal and be respectful of them as special, soulful and super sensitive beings. I am now 69 and still watching and dreaming in 2018.

My departed my brother, saw PPM at least 9 times live in concert.
We'd take family walks and sing, PPM---songs.
On a trip to the northern shore of Kauai, where Puff lived, Puff the magician dragon came on the radio.
I used to sing it to them to help them fall asleep, which my twins adored.
I twisted to see if they were listening, they were both sound asleep.
    Well done, Daddy...

A very meaningful song asking relevant questions which cannot be answered. When we hear this great song, we feel like we are seeking the answers to these unanswerable questions. No wonder that Bob Dylan received the Nobel Prize for Literature recently.
