It's been 40 years since he died, and yet his grave shows signs that it is regularly visited. It shows how respected he was in life, and how his influence carries on after his death. Legend.
John Bonham was a petrolhead (see the concert movie The Song Remains the Same for examples) hence the toy cars on his headstone. I think he found being away from his family for a long time due to touring hard to deal with and resorted to alcohol to help him cope. Incredible that people are leaving graveside tributes for someone who passed away over 40 years ago. Well worth listening to some Led Zeppelin songs to discover Bonham's versatility.
@@geoffpoole483 There’s a funny story that one day, on one of the early 70s Zeppelin tours, they were in, I think LA, and Bonzo and his assistant were out on their own. Anyway, they passed a lovely very early Corvette. Bonzo had his assistant turn around, stop the car, find the owner, and he bought it in cash from the guy on the spot.
Yes. There was and is no one like him. Some of the drumming was so incredible that he blew everyone away. Pity he did not get help for his nerves and depression which led him drinking too much and dying. A true Great.
🤣🤣 He was rated drummer Keith Moon was a greatest rock and roll drummer in the world, next would be Mitch Mitchell. BUT THE GREATEST ALL AROUND DRUMMER NEVER TO PICK UP A PAIR OF STICK S WAS MR. BUDDY RICH . ENOUGH SAID
My first glimpse of John Bonhams final resting place, and done so well and sensitive. I love that his headstone is not a huge overbearing stone but a beautiful simple declaration of love from his beloved. I pray someday to visit this place, but thank you truly for this video. ❤
Aside from being a great drummer, John Bonham was a gear head who loved his cars, which is why you see all the cars on top off his grave. That white covered truck on his grave resembles the one he drove in the movie. Greatest rock drummer ever, IMO.
Everything about this video was lovely A wonderful tribute to John Bonham The beautiful church & the friendly horse It had such a good vibe Thank you Paul 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
An incredibly talented drummer! As some have said the greatest drummer ever. My dad bought the first Led Zeppelin album, and the power this man had in playing the drums was amazing to hear. I had just left school, and heard the news, what a shock it was, and then of course John Lennon being murdered in December of that year. R.I.P. to them both.
John Bonham was into classic cars and speed. Total adrenaline man, passionate about life and music and the drums. He drove a vehicle like the white one on his tombstone in the film, The Song Remains The Same. He also loved his motorcycle that he would ride in the hallways in the hotels they stayed at before they got their plane. John was also pulled over for racing up and down Rodeo Drive. There were at least 7 policeman there. He had the hood open on his fast trans am with a high rise motor coming through the hood. He was pointing out the supercharger, carborator and everything that made the car fast. He asked all the officers if the had tickets for their show. He gave them all tons of tickets for their concert. The good old days. Great drummer, father, husband, bandmate and passionate individual. He loved his son, Jason, his wife and all the fans.
I took my son to the grave site many years ago, when he started playing drums and became a Zep fan from listening to my vinyl collection. He would have been about 14 then. He's in his 30's now. We live fairly close to the cemetery. What I only realised when I saw the gravestone that day was it was the 25th of September. Such an influence on my sons drumming style to this day.
I've read that on the previous day Bonham had been helping his folks move into a cottage on his farm. He loved his family and the idea of going on another tour and the separation from loved ones that it caused upset him greatly and he almost wanted to quit-but he always put the band first. He was the only Zep member that went to Robert's son's funeral and helped Robert through the ordeal. He was also the one that prodded Robert back into rehearsals and the studio to record 'In Through The Out Door' feeling the work would be good for Robert. The reason for the toy cars on his headstone is that Bonham was a bonified gearhead that LOVED fast cars. I'd like to see another great drummer's grave-Cozy Powell. He was every bit the crazy drummer Bonham was and was potentially a candidate to drum for a Zep reunion. Sadly he loved fast cars also dying in a car wreck much too young. It's perhaps morbid but fitting for Cozy in that his last words on an early car phone were "Oh sh@t!!!" immediately preceding the accident which killed him.
"Death is not the greatest loss of life.... The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live..." I was never into rock band's, was into 70s 80s disco, then the early 90s rave scene, but... Nevertheless, I know talent when I see it 👏 brilliant drummer taken way to soon, definitely rock & roll lifestyle. Thanks Paul, great vlog mate, love the channel 💕
Knebworth ‘79 🙌🏻 🎸🤘🏻what a weekend…Led Zeppelin will always be #1 for me and John Bonham, well, what a legend and what a phenomenally talented musician❤ thanks Paul 🙏xx
A Wonderful Tribute to him. John Bonham was my brothers (Joe Futej) drumming mentor (Buddy Rich as well)!! My little brother passed away June 28th, 2022 at the age of 58 (Stage 4 lung cancer). He always use to say John B. was the man! No one could beat him or the band. I would love to think that he was finally able to meet the man, and they are now playing drums together in Heaven. The man whom he learned so much of his drumming skills from. Thank you for sharing this video. Have a lovely day.
It doesn’t surprise me that there is such wonderful positive energy surrounding Bonzo’s final resting place. I’m glad you felt it. The man is so much missed even after all these years. Rest well Bonzo
What a wonderful respectful tribute Paul. John truly was a great drummer, and very sadly missed. Taken way to young. Love the tributes left at his grave site. RIP John.
One of my first LPs was a Zep one, John Bonham drumming was amazing, it was an honour to see his final resting place to pay respects. Thankyou for the video.
The first Concert that I went to was Led Zeppelin in April of 1977 on their North American tour what a special time to be a teenager to see the greatest music to ever come from across the pond to see John Bonham play live his version of Moby Dick was breath taking and now to see his son Jason Bonham playing Drums on his tour to honor his Father to me that's full circle something I will remember for the rest of my life Rest in Peace John Henry Bonham God Speed !!!!!!
The first original drummer of Led Zep, was a guy from Harrow called Mac Poole, sadly no longer with us, who left the band just before Led Zep hit the big time. Mac was tired of all the travelling to and from gigs, and decided to settle down instead. Then came along John Bonham. Mac kept in touch with a lot of the lads from his past, who were in other groups. One such person to attend Mac’s funeral at Ruislip crematorium, was Rick Wakeman. Mac himself continued to play in several bands up until his passing. 🙏🏼
I saw Zeppelin in the 70’s at the Chicago . The Tickets were 27 bucks which was quite a bit back then . I’m 68 Now and still remember the concert well . By the Greatest Drummer and Band Ever !
Thanks Paul great video . I did ask you a few months if you could do John Bonham, you did not did not disappoint. Big fan of Led Zeppelin since early 70 ‘s and still are awesome band and an unbelievable drummer he was the driving force behind Led Zeppelins 🥁
Sometimes people leave full bottles of beer and other alcohol on John's grave tnat are cleared away regularly. You wondered about the cars left on his grave, when he was alive he liked fast card and motorbikes. He once rode his motorbike through the front door (now bricked up) of The Fox Public House in the village of Chaddesley Corbett which isnt too far from Rushock. He was the world's greatest drummer and his son Jason comes pretty close too. You have been to Worcestershire before, you went to Bromsgrove Cemetary to see Pat Roach.
Being a long time Led Zep fan I found this very interesting if not a little sad. Possibly the greatest rock drummer ever. I'm guessing that the toy cars on the head stone are reflecting his love of fast cars and hot rods - check out his "Moby Dick" solo sequence from the film "The Song Remains The Same".
Led Zeppelin will never be forgotten along with all the band members. John Bonham is probably the best drummer ever and taken early due to severe alcoholism. Such a huge loss of natural talent. I have all their albums and still hear their songs today in movies such as THOR Ragnarok and Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves.
Great video about the greatest rock drummer ever “John Henry “Bonzo” Bonham, about the cars from what I have read and watched that John Bonham had a love for cars and motorcycles, as his sequence on the The Movie “The Song Remains The Same” you see John Bonham with his family of course, also driving his cars, riding his motorcycle and drag racing May John Bonham Rest In Peace Great Video 👍 Beautiful English Countryside Especially from this Yank (American)
Well done Paul for doing Bonzo! Some people say he was an overrated drummer but like everyone on here also says, one of the greatest drummers ever and there won't be another! Definitely my favourite and so glad my dad brought me up listening to them and has given his vinyl to enjoy for many years to come! Tragic how he passed away and as sad as it was led zeppelin chose to no longer carry on, it was a mark of respect to Jon and his family.
My idol.. fun fact, one of those drum sticks was placed there by myself. Such a beautiful setting for Bonzo’s final resting place. 💙💙 Oh and the relevancy with the cars, Bonzo was into American ‘Muscle Cars’ Hot Rods etc.
I was 10 years old when John Bonham passed away. I will forever be reminded of September 25th 1980 it was the day I turned 10. I was already a fan of Zeppelin because of my older brother's. I remember watching the news it was the last story reported on. I'm now 52, and still believe Zeppelin are the greatest rock band. Been here, fabulous location, left a drumstick of course, takes some finding that church. New inn, in Cutnall green not far away, regular drinking establishment for John and the band, still got the alcoves where they sat around. Well worth a visit to Johns haunt and the grave itself 🥁

I took my Australian friend to the grave and the church. It’s a stunning, peaceful and moving site. The church was beautiful. We went on a Led Zeppelin day. An old school acquaintance runs a pub and rehearsal space in Stourport On Severn ( Where I grew up) and the silent partner is Robert Plant. Matt who runs it is boyfriend of Plant’s niece. Mimi (Plant’s niece) is an amazing chef. We went to The Swan for lunch, then on to the grave.
I lived nearby, and I went to School in Stourport on Severn, in the early 1980s. Although not a Led Zeppelin fan, I do remember the death John Bonham, and I know that Robert Plant lives(or lived) close by.
@@alisonjordan at one point Robert Plant lived in Shatterford. I’m not sure where he lives now. I went to SHS, my maiden name was Chrissie Walker. I went from 1990 onwards. I don’t remember John Bonham’s death, but vaguely remember John Lennon’s, later in the year. Robert Plant was an occasional customer in my parents newsagent shop in the late 70’s. It was Dillons on Coventry Street in Kidderminster
@@chriggle1 Hello🙋♀️ Thanks for your reply. We were not at school at the same time, as I attended Stourport High School in the early 1980s. I remember Dillons in Coventry Street. My Mum went into Kidderminster, to do her shopping, every Thursday🛍
When I was younger i use to do schoolboy scrambling and race with John Bonhams son Jason ,who was a really good rider back in the day. John was always there with the rest of the parent's supporting the kid's....he also managed to secure sponsorship from kawasaki for Jason . I think Jason went on to become a top musician as well ....and i know for a fact that he still loves and follows motocross racing till this day.
That’s interesting to hear. I used to work with a guy who did Motocross with Jason and has photos receiving trophies with John Bonham. His name is Simon Green. Don’t know if this is familiar with you?
@@mattpalmer6054 To be honest i can't remember all the people we raced with being so young at the time....but I can remember Jason and his dad. It's funny it's not because of John Bonham but of the bikes and set up they had at each race meeting.
i was working opposite his house/mansion on the day of his funeral...lots of fans and police...his house is just down the road ...he had a huge collection of cars/hot rods etc, hence why models are on his headstone....often saw him driving around the country roads...great video....
Hi Paul so pleased you have visited Bonzo Im a massive fan of the mighty Zeppelin In fact I bought their first album when I was 14 the year after it came out after hearing the band on Fluff Freeman`s show another hero of mine who you have also done Im very lucky to be of the age to have seen almost all of the greatest rock musician`s live For me Bonzo was and is the greatest rock drummer ever and if I ever visit Worcester you can rest assured I will be adding another stick to that collection in the churchyard God bless you Bonzo you took the Stairway to Heaven far too early but the music lives in forever God bless you too Paul for visiting the great man

Always love seeing inside the old churches ⛪️,the horses❤were an added bonus,John Bonham had a passion for cars(he had a collection),remember the hot rod Ford Model T he drove in The Song Remains The Same?,that was from his collection,I suspect that's why the little cars were on his headstone 😇 Thanks Paul👍
Thank you for this.. i am a lifelong fan of the Zep... watch the movie song remains the same ..you will get the cars.. guess you are a bit young// still thanks

Got to see Zeppelin twice, 75 and 77 at Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth Texas. What a shock when I heard the sad news of Bonzo's passing 😢

I raced motocross in the same clubs as Jason. I think I knew Simon Green he worked selling cars for Vauxhall
Great video thanks 🙏
Thank You So much!
i was working opposite his house/mansion on the day of his funeral...lots of fans and police...his house is just down the road ...he had a huge collection of cars/hot rods etc, hence why models are on his headstone....often saw him driving around the country roads...great video....

Got to see Zeppelin twice, 75 and 77 at Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth Texas. What a shock when I heard the sad news of Bonzo's passing 😢
32 so young to die. Love listening to your channel Paul
Arguably the biggest influence on my playing. There are others of course, but he was the man, a real innovator who changed the approach to rock drumming forever RIP.
Good video yet again loads of history and another beautiful place visited rest in peace John 43 years gone since you left sad story as they all are 👍
