Now I think the good low throttle modulation is due to the portal axle = more gearing. i've already put RES-V3 + wpl 2 speed gearbox onto the unimog. The high speed gear on the unimog is like low speed gear on WPL
Im OG as it gets. Im super happy to see affordable rigs. They have gotten so good these past few years. WPL has become exemplary and a company that upcoming chinese rc companies have been following and its great!!
This is a great looking truck and I am sure the people into modifying the truck for the scale appearance will have fun. For people that want to run it a lot the brass pinion and lack of grub screws may be a deal breaker. Your video was excellent. I think demonstrating its strengths and weaknesses will help any one who's considering it. Thanks for sharing.
Great to see you've gone back to your roots at this time not everyone can afford to throw away £100's on the hobby it's great to see the cheaper end of the market keep on with more videos like this 👍👍👍👍👍
NAILED it....and yes, some who aren't so serious about the hobby can't afford the $1000 rigs so little playthings are great when you're on a budget. Reviews like this are invaluable!
@@thomaslierzer7857 I totally agree I bought an ftx outback ranger 2 the 1/10th scale to dip my toe in the water it was £148 from wheelspin models which I thought if I don't like it then I might be able to get some money back if I sell it on well I had used it once fell in love with it I was surprised just how good it was it did almost as good as my friends traxxas trx4 defender then bought the ftx kanyon that was £150 from wheelspin models again I bought that just because of its size then I got the gmade Komodo gs02f TS kit the newer one with the twin cab £209 brand new off evilbay couldn't resist at that price then I took the massive just to traxxas trx4 bronco ranger second hand on eBay had to get new tyres and chrome parts for it and I still use the Komodo and the ftx outback ranger 2 in the house from time to time looking back I should of realised that I would like crawlers as I got into crawling with the wpl c24 climbing cushions in the front room then the mn d90 was next lol
Funnily enough i spotted this vehicle while looking for suitable 1/18 vehicles and noted the Unimog. However the one you've linked was an even better price. Thanks
i put a receiver and esc in and it got pretty strong just from that, you do loose the slow/fast and lights on/off but it definitely transformed its performance
I tumbled about this one on my last visit ag banggood. But didn't bought it because the description didn't fit to the fotos. So thanks for showing, many of my questions are answered now.
Funny story for you on battery under the hood: I bought a small airplane this past summer and ordered the kit with 3 lipo batteries. (I have to travel to a field big enough and want to make it worth my while to go there). One came in the box...ok, where's the other two? Went all through the packaging and nope no where to be found. Ok, well, I'll put the batteries in the remote and go from there. WOOT there's one INSIDE the battery compartment in the remote. Ok, where's the third....well, they hid it not in the battery compartment on the plane, but in the area where you attach the wings in the fuselage lol I felt like I was playing "where's waldo" hahaha
Great video Phil, i saw these on Aliexpress last night & was sorely tempted to press the "Buy now" button but held back until i had seen some real world reviews & hey presto here you are, amazing 😁
Pretty nifty little truck. Issue with the grub screws isn't good though. I'm getting really repetitive commenting lately, but you keep reviewing stuff that is pretty darn good.
5:53 "only two tiny little grub screws worth pennies" yes, but they are worth $100 if you don't have any and have to order 2 from amazon in order to be able to use your RTR kit. I was out on a jobsite in the boonies and needed 1 3" wood screw to complete my project. ONE. I would have paid $20 for one because to go get one and come back would have been 2 hrs round trip. Learned a lesson that day: if you need 10 bring 20.
I was going to try to fit a 1/24 scale hammer son figure in the cab but the legs are to long so if anyone knows about some figures that will fit hit me up 🤙
Yes, that brass pinion! watchout for the slack on the drive shaft, mine worn off quickly, still works fine after shimming even if its almost totally stripped! Also be warned of those plastic portals, they're too fragile! or maybe i'm just too wreckless!
Just noticed in the background when your climbing it you have a f150 svt lighting still in the box I brought one a few weeks ago for $100aud an sold it not long ago for $350, i should of kept it
Great vids btw, finally getting back into the rc hobby after a few decades! I’ve just bought this although it’s yet to arrive… Apart from the grub screw, what upgrades would you recommend to make this a bit more user friendly?
I enjoyed this video and had myself a coffee both. Haha. Speaking of that, you haven't been sipping a cup whilst reviewing lately. Did you give up coffee Phil?
So glad there is an RC channel for grown ups. :) That other guy would have jammed a big motor in there and then send it to the moon for a tumble wumble, and repeat for the next 60 videos. Thanks for your reviews.

Yup, thats what i would have done too. Good call edward

I love the old military trucks. It’s great to see your back doing them
Thank you, I saw it and knew I had to get it 👌

Just bought a Losi DBXL and I fully agree. It must not be always be the expensive stuff to relax and enjoy the hobby!

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of an incline it could handle.
Love the looks of the Unimog! 👍
You make a good job! (driving without music for showing the noises, modulation....) thanks
Just my two cents but I think it's great to see these type videos. Its the reason I have bought a two wpl rc myself.
Unimog RC is a RC that is hard to find in Korea, whether it is large or small. It's a really nice scale car~ I enjoyed watching the video.👍👍👍

I love that model just need to be perfected ,if WPL brings one like that be amazing 😍
Yes, needs a bit more power
Always a pleasure to see cheaper rigs Tomley. I still have an work on my WPL model’s. Cheers for your video’s T-Dawg!!
Pretty nifty little truck. Issue with the grub screws isn't good though. I'm getting really repetitive commenting lately, but you keep reviewing stuff that is pretty darn good.
Wow this video brings me back to “the roots” . But as a military truck fanboy, this is great!
was looking at this last night. An inexpensive Uni-mog at last, Can't wait to put my own touch on this. thanks for the vid 👍

Ayyyyyyyyyy thank you tomley ♥ great to see a budget build video again
Sweet looking little rig
Yay! Back to your roots, I love it! I wonder if we will now see a little modification series?
Also, the price has gone down a bit now!
$119 on Amazon.
I love the mini rc vids keep on trucking tomley 😊
I’m going to definitely buy me one 😊
More coming dude
Do you know we’re I can find some good tires for the unimog?
I was going to try to fit a 1/24 scale hammer son figure in the cab but the legs are to long so if anyone knows about some figures that will fit hit me up 🤙
Nice looking rig! I'll echo what you said in that I'm looking forward to seeing what more talented people than myself do with this. Take care!
We joined you in the dark root days and became fans nice to see you visit your home turf, could you do some how tos for the beginners
Definitely looks good, rc is definitely getting more detailed
Nice little car . Love your running video good job
Hahaha right off the bat. Love the way you leave the bloopers in. Keep it up bud
WTF that desert yellow looks good. I think I should have went for that instead of Army green!
Easier to paint 😉👍
I can really imagine Velma choosing this as her runabout, away from the Mystery Machine 😄
Off road Military Mystery Machine
I'd throw some Aluminiom axles with metal gears. I'd also put some crawler or mud bogger tires on it. The truck reminds me of the one on JW
@tomleyRC1 Do you have a phone number I can call you by Mr. Tomely?
Lucky wpl axles mount up and I ended up swapping em out for a good quality set.
Yes, that brass pinion! watchout for the slack on the drive shaft, mine worn off quickly, still works fine after shimming even if its almost totally stripped! Also be warned of those plastic portals, they're too fragile! or maybe i'm just too wreckless!
I can see the scale guys really going for this.
It looks alright . Definitely a blank canvas type of deal 👍
Yaaaaaaay Unimog! ♥
Your videos have come miles. Great video almost makes me wanna buy that turd.
Cheers dude. Appreciate it 👌
Brilliant video Phil and have a fantastic Christmas and New year and fingers crossed more new models to come in.2023 😀😊
love the look of it. Excellent Video!
Cheers Dexter, it certainly looks pretty good
Nice value truck, very capable and looks pretty accurate too
Just noticed in the background when your climbing it you have a f150 svt lighting still in the box I brought one a few weeks ago for $100aud an sold it not long ago for $350, i should of kept it
Holycow those cream made the press fit method failed? Can those lube be used elsewhere too? so it won't become rough too soon 😈😈
😅
Great video 👍🏻
It looks nice. Some modification to the suspension and it might perform pretty well.
Love the cheap stuff!
Worth the sixty nicker for the cab, bed and bits to put on a decent chassis 👌
Yes, pretty detailed for a cheapo
Awesome looking 👌
Defmetly happy about the cheap car, especially when it's not a wpl or wl toys😂great vid,,, big thum up
However big the channel gets, I’ll always have a soft spot for the cheaper stuff 👌
Awesome ride and review, Phil! 😃
Pretty nice little truck indeed! And it could probably be easily moded!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I think you just did the Toyota Land cruiser pickup from FMS? Pretty sure your roots are good.
I like it, would rather have it in 10th scale but still it’s very detailed for a cheaper small scale rc.
Thanks for the review 😍
Epic 🎉keep the body chuck the rest
Edward said that he's going to try it with a WPL V3 control board in it Phil, which may be a good idea.
I think he’s already done it and put a 2 speed in. Spotted a post earlier
@@TomleyRC I'll need to have a look,I know that he talked about it in an earlier vid.
Gotta love the quirky writing on the packages 😅
Brilliant love it 😊
HI PHIL LIKE U SAID LOOKS GREAT SHAME ABOUT THE REST. THANKS FOR SHARING SIR 🇬🇧🕊️✌🏼👍🏼
It's a thing of beauty !
Cool rc and run, great overview
nice one chap. still waiting for mine to reach lincoln.
Got mine coming soon 😁 can I ask what size grub screw was needed for the axle pls 🙏
He’s teasing us with the mustang in the back
Haha, video this weekend 👌
Good vid tomley, bet that would make a good body option for that trx4m chassis
Awesome video
Looks gooooooopd
Perfect for a bit of modding
Potential in the body
good video mate, the cab is nice so people ay buy it just for that to use on a better chassis
!m thinking 1:16. was waiting for u 2 review!
Great video mate! Did the 1/12 figure fit in there ok or do we have to tinker?
All it needs is a little weight added and it would be Awesome.
happy
Great vids btw, finally getting back into the rc hobby after a few decades! I’ve just bought this although it’s yet to arrive… Apart from the grub screw, what upgrades would you recommend to make this a bit more user friendly?
Looks great but I wish you were reviewing it when driving. Instead of just motor sounds lol 😁, cause that thing is so loud!
Are you going to review the new Subotech Hummer, just got one, not bad at all...
Do they make a kit version by any chance? Thanks
Seems to use a similar ESC to the MN78?
Love the military trucks . Any plans to weather it yourself?
I enjoyed this video and had myself a coffee both. Haha. Speaking of that, you haven't been sipping a cup whilst reviewing lately. Did you give up coffee Phil?
Nice review, the truck scale looks like it is 1/16 or 1/18
🔵🔵🔵👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🔵🔵🔵
Sir Tomley what camera do you have? Your video looks phenomenal!
Love it! 😍
Did you learned "high gear" from me? 😂😂
Haha.. high gear and Low gear… I had to correct what I said as I know someone would have told me it’s not a different gear 😅
Arrgh there was never a Mog in the world with leaf springs, only the 416 6x6 have leafes in the rear. Except this its a great RC Truck!
Nice video, As always!!
Can't really complain for the price. A similar model without RC electronics could easily be in the same price range.
Need to get one xd more home made carbon rails to make lol 😆 2 speed and a 1080 and new pinions =^.^= another one to add next to my wpls 😀
You guys might be ably to use a wpl steel pinion on this
So glad there is an RC channel for grown ups. :) That other guy would have jammed a big motor in there and then send it to the moon for a tumble wumble, and repeat for the next 60 videos. Thanks for your reviews.
Why throw stuff? Why do blokes do it? Perhaps you can consider or explain?
Removing 1 of the leaf spring s in the front
5:12 what size grub screw did you use to fix the diff?
The scale look is niceeee... But need some upgrades on the electric to get better performance.
My guess that later on in 2023 there will be a upgraded version with more metal stuff. But who knows
surprised me that bud, not too bad at all 👍
Could you please review the new one that has dual motors and differential locks.
Yes, video this week ;)
@TomleyRC man you're the best. Can't wait! Already have it in my cart, just waiting for thr review.
Hmmm the cheap entry youd want to spend on.
What size grub screws did you use.
