Jesus Christ...only Bruce could let such a fucking gem of a song sit in the vaults for 35 years. His outtakes are better than most artists' greatest hits!
It fleshes out the stage, but I wonder how much of each guitar is in the mix. I can hear what Steve is doing, not so much Nils. Two acoustics? And why is Bruce capo'd on 2 playing in C when the song is in E (tuned down Eb)? Funny, with all those guitars, the keyboard seems to dominate the mix.
It could’ve been a Billy Idol anthem. I think Bruce was trying to take the band in a different direction when they wrote this, but it’s proof he could still belt out an anthem if he wanted to.
+Adam Majorcsik “Balazs” Mighty Max is my favourite after Bruce and Big Man. He had a house in Cortona, and when they organised a music festival (the Cortona Mix Festival) he recruited young boys and girls and make a band he called: "Cortona All Star" and when festival's organizers interviewed him, he just spoke about those guys! :D BTW sorry for my english
Gracias a Dios hay varios "viejitos" vigentes que mantienen una referencia musical de calidad ; Bruce Springsteen y la E Street Band : sin fecha de caducidad ¡¡¡ SALUD.
What a performance! I think the new organ player blew the chords going into the bridge, you can see Jake Clemmons grab his earbuds, BUT WHO CARES, it's BRUCE for crying out loud!!! God Bless him for getting me through so many tough parts of my life. I am a full-time musician and when I hear him, the shivers go down my spine every single time from his passion. By the way, the guy who wondered why the audience was booing......geeze dude, it's not BOOOOOOO, its BRRUUUUUUUUCCCCEEE! Can't wait for the tour!
+John Creidler Charlie Giordiano is a world class keyboardist. Have you heard him on the live Dubin CD? Bruce has the luxury of 'redundancy' on the keyboards.
I am sure Charlie is a great keyboard player. I wasn't knocking him. Something just quite didn't sound right to me in the bridge, but maybe it was my own ears.
Bruce needed a few performances of the song to get that transition to work. It's not one of his best bridges and was most likely the reason the track got cut from The River. However in this age of massive middle-class addiction, suicide, overdoses and institutionalization, 'Meet Me in The City', says it all.
Going to see Bruce live one month from now at the Wembley Stadium in London with my brother, whom appear to be the one that taught me that Bruce Springsteen is indeed The Boss.
Imagine being such a prolific songwriter that you write and record a hit song like this, then do nothing with it for 30+ years. It’s just been sitting in the vault.
Bruce Springsteen is a mix of punk, folk, and rock and roll and he has a great ensamle band behind him ( my favorite is the saxophone player) and then Bruce and Steve have a great cliff of Dover shit guitar solo, everyone on the stage is moving and having a good time, Bruce is like 60 trying to play a twenty something ( you got to love it). That is why Bruce Springsteen like an outdoor market is the greatest live band ever. Oh yeah on SNL Sir Paul was on the stage to play with the BOSS.
Absolutely fantastic And by the way: 'Letter to You' is great too Hey Bruce, please call Your boys and come back to Europe soon I will be there for sure Don't forget your last words in Rome: "We'll be seeing you" To all the people out there: You must see them live if you can It will change your life Greetings from Austria
Feels like the 1999 Reunion tour -- no big new album, no guests, no big horn section or gospel choir; just the band, back together in all its lean mean glory.
Junior M But it's mostly remastered stuff from the vaults, not new things he wrote based on where he is at this time of his life right now -- it's more like Tracks than the River in that way.
Jesus Christ...only Bruce could let such a fucking gem of a song sit in the vaults for 35 years. His outtakes are better than most artists' greatest hits!
Producer: "So, Mr. Springsteen, how many guitars will you guys be playing on stage tonight?"
Bruce: "Yes"

@@jeffscott66 keyboard driven ; boss suzie Steve and nils all detuned then nils and boss capo 2 = Eb
What a great song.
Even his lesser stuff is superb what a gift to music Sprinsteen is!
is there anything better than Bruce at Christmas time? Love this!
This song kicks ass, I can’t believe it didn’t make the album!! It’s such a perfect 80s new wave type song. It would’ve been a huge hit.
imagine if he gave it to Blondie or Elvis Costello!!!
It could’ve been a Billy Idol anthem. I think Bruce was trying to take the band in a different direction when they wrote this, but it’s proof he could still belt out an anthem if he wanted to.
Si cada canción que finalmente descartó se recogiera en un álbum, el vinilo tendría el diámetro de la luna. Es un punto genio....
I LOVE this song! Bruce Springsteen is and always will be THE BOSS!
+TheMultiGunMan
A Canadian Girl who feels the same!!! The BOSS Forever! BRUUUUUUCE XOXO
A GTEHGIRL Damnnnnn right! :-)

+Ted Canova ALRIIIIGHT!
They're not saying "boo"; they're saying "Bruuuuuce"!
I needed this 🤍
Thanks.
Even the quiet achiever Garry W Tallent is bopping away!!
Bruce is a class act Clerence dies and Bruce keeps its in the family by bringing in Jake Clerence's nephew to be the sax player.
He can still tear it up can't he??
So good to see that happiness on Max's face :D They are all really love that life. Prepare yourself for the tour :)

+Adam “Balazs” Majorcsik It was a great song to open up the tour in Pittsburgh!
+Massimo Maniscalco non ce l'ha più la casa a Cortona ?
Dicono di no, ma spero sia una bufala! :D
IKR he sings along too :)
What a performance this was! Unreal! Pumped for this tour!
Loud but not to loud, don't get me wrong I love loud, but I always thought the saxophone was too much, Bruce made it worked.
+mathew idicula I loved Clarence Clemens and together they made magic.
The Tour is terrific! I recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.
Legit one of my top 10 favorite Bruce songs.
SOMEBODY tell me how Bruce is still so DAMN sexy at 66 & such a flippin hard rocker. The Boss - never to be repeated.
Musicians are almost always sexy. Music is in their souls, and they move to a beat almost always.
He is sexy at 66 just because he is 71 already! ;) ;) ;)
It's simple really. Cause he's THE BOSS 🤘🤘
Great Song!!!, I love it!!!, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band is the OST of my life. Thanks
Jake is awesome!!!!!!!! spirit of Clerence is alive and well!!!!!!!!
kicked ass with this, live version smashes studio version!

+John Creidler He does it throughout, merely adjusting his earpiece.

Oh, "BRUCE!" LOL! I also came here to to see if people were booing. I thought it rocked. I miss Clearance. We're from the same city.
A prelude to a powerful opener on an a real special tour. This song kicked ass every opener in the states.

Love it!! Nice finish. Can't wait to see Bruce and the E Street Band in Oakland in March! #MeetMeInTheCityTonight

Feels like the 1999 Reunion tour -- no big new album, no guests, no big horn section or gospel choir; just the band, back together in all its lean mean glory.
+Calvin Maynard Idk, I think The Ties That Bind: The River Collection is a pretty big new album.
Junior M But it's mostly remastered stuff from the vaults, not new things he wrote based on where he is at this time of his life right now -- it's more like Tracks than the River in that way.
Calvin Maynard Yah, I suppose
