- hey guys!! so i thought i'd bring you guys along with me this super busy but productive week in my life living alone.. i bring you with me to university, my first time going this whole year :)
i was so excited because we got to do labs and use microscopes to see microorganisms and other experiments which was super cool (for anyone that doesn't know i'm doing a zoology degree). i spent the week studying for tests, working on essays, lectures + spending time with my sassy chameleon carl.. who hates me. i hope you guys enjoyed, and I'll see you next week!

Girl if it makes you feel better I’m 34 and I’m not even the older person in my calculus class. There’s like 3 people in their 40s and 50s. You’re never too old to learn something new and better yourself.
Ok, this is my advice from a med student. Do NOT fake understanding something the teachers are there to help you learn. You weren’t in school for a while and these people have probably not even taken a break after high school so they’re more in the flow of things and have stuff fresh in their minds. Also people lie, you might look around and everyone can be “understanding” but they’re just faking it. keep pushing and don’t let yourself get sad about the small things. One of my professors would always say, people who graduate aren’t smarter than others. They just didn’t give up and thats the difference.
i totally felt like an imposter too during my chem lab this semester...i think everyone is faking it till they make it😎 don’t worry we’re all crying on the inside

Love your videos!. I am 29 yrs old and just getting my Bachelors in Chemistry this Spring 2021. We did not take a traditional path like most students but we will succeed.
I was over 30 when I did my degree. Age is nothing - just do what you want when you want.
@@JB-tt6ct I did it with three children. I used to go to Uni in the daytime and work at nights. You have to do what is necessary to achieve what you want. It does need a dedicated person though.

As a freshman college professor, I can tell you that you are never the only one to “not get it.” Most often than not only a handful of students understand right away. A great majority pretend in fear they will look bad. So if you “pretended” chances are a lot of others did, too! Your stresses are completely valid but please don’t beat yourself up. I tell my students, “we go to school to learn NEW things.”
You are not stupid. You are doing more than most are doing at your age. You got this...like you said...push through...do it your own way...
You’re not alone. Sometimes I just pretend to know what’s going on, while feeling inside like ‘If I can just get through this class, I’ll somehow figure it out.’
(It usually feels worse than it really is.)
But hearing you say you pretended to get it at first, makes me think the next time I am in a class where it seems like everyone else is understanding everything, maybe I’m not the only one feeling lost and just trying to keep up.
It really helped me to hear your experience with this. ♥️
How do you know there aren't other people pretending to know what they're doing too? I promise you're not the only one that feels lost sometimes or has weak spots! You're also sooo young, I'm turning 30 next month and thinking about going back to school lol, you're doing great.
If doesn’t matter how many times it takes to understand something it just matters that you learn it when you do. Never give up. I’m the oldest person in my masters
The first time I ever took Chemistry I was always lost too, I failed with a D. I had to retake the class and then ended up with an A. You can do it!!! Sometimes it’s the way they teach it. You just need someone who knows how to explain good.
Couldn’t relate more when it comes to feeling like you’re too old/dumb. I’m 34 back in community college after quitting so many times due to anxiety. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way sometimes but I’m definitely not giving up this time. Thanks for sharing and being vulnerable ❤️
I’m in my first semester of college at 24 years old after I dropped out of high school my senior year. Even during my zoom class I have all these feelings resurfacing from high school. It will probably get easier, but I think that even if it doesn’t, we can do this.
Whatever you do, don’t give up! I went back to school at 24 right after having my son and I’ll have a bachelors degree in four months. It feels weird sometimes being 27 but I’m proud as hell and even though the days are long- the years are short 💕
Omg me too!!! I HATED chemistry in high school! The moles part was excruciating. I never got it. I don’t remember how i got through it but I totally relate. I finally graduated a couple months ago and once you are holding that diploma in your hands, you feel sooo proud of all the hard work you put in and literal blood, sweat, and tears... its so worth it girl. Keep pushing through, you can do it!!

Okay so after watching the whole thing, Megan, I am the exact same with Chemistry. Everyone said I would LOVE it because I love Math but my brain is like...nope. Everyone deals with a little imposter syndrome. You gotta tell yourself you are smart enough, because you aaaareee! You have a dream on your heart and you're 100% capable of achieving it!

I struggled with chemistry in college too. I don't use it at all in my career but I still had to take it as an engineering major. I had so many times where I doubted myself and felt like I wasn't cut out for it but I made it to the end and you will too! Once you graduate and make it to your career field GPA doesn't matter at all, at least in my experience. I'm just as competent as everyone else at work and that's all that matters. It was so nice to see you thriving in the lab :)

Yes girl, you ARE smart enough to be there. Everyone has certain struggles that we don’t even realize they are having a hard time with. I’m sure some of your fellow lab mates were having the same struggle and were feeling the same way. You are doing amazing things. Keep pushing forward, it’ll be soooo worth it 💜
Going into my major, I didn’t realize how chem based it was and I would cry almost every other day because it never came easy to me and I would always have to ask my lab partners for extra help. It got to the point where I was about to drop out bc I had to stay an extra year for failing only my chem classes. I eventually stuck it out and now I’m working full time in a job that I love :,) you got this girl!

I took chemistry many years ago in college. I was the same way with conversions. Ended up switching my major and didn't need chemistry anymore and dropped it halfway through. I am also older than my peers currently being in my 30's. The only good part about that is I have more real world experience to bring to discussions.

I was in your shoes about the chem story.. I relied on RUclips videos to teach me through some parts! Anyways I just found out I got accepted into a dental program!! I’m a single mom and just turned 25 so I’m a bit of an untraditional student but I feel like I’ve come so far and I’m actually proud of myself! Just keep pushing! I felt the same way with chemistry ❤️ it’s so hard and it’s annoying that any biology based degree has some chemistry in there! It put me off doing a biology related degree because I tried and tried but could never wrap my head around chemistry. I’m glad you managed to grasp it in the end!!

i love all the lab stuff! i have a phlebotomy degree and those labs were just us drawing blood and learning the tests/tubes. but i was a nursing major (now radiology) and we had to take anatomy and microbiology which is obviously all about the human body and all about bacteria/viruses/infectious diseases....all my favorites! so awesome!

i went to college later also (was like 22 when i started, majoring in chemistry) and the labs made me sooo happy too! it's just such a weird feeling. almost like you're a kid, all the curiosity you felt for the world comes rushing back. i love it
