- My first WEEK in university as a zoology student :) I've been dreaming about going to university for a looong time.. (and I mean LONG as it's been almost 7 years since I graduated high school.. yeah.. im old) so I wanted to share what a real look into this new chapter of my life is like, how it is juggling youtube & school and how I'm adjusting to living by myself. I really wanted to share how I was truly feeling and what it was really like to be a mature student going from working full time to now having to worry about essays/quizzes etc again!! It's scary, and I know there are many of you out there doing the same thing and I hope watching my struggle makes you feel better.. or entertains you haha :)

Girl. I'm 27 and started pharmacy school when I was 25. I suuucked at chemistry (ironic, because pharmacology 🤷🏼♀️), and I struggled so hard the first year and a half. I thought I was going to have to drop out because everyone else had such fresh and good basic knowledge of chem, but I didn't. Anyway, here I am halfway through and I'm caught up on everything and it looks like I'll actually be a pharmacist in 2.5 years. All of this to say, it gets better I promise. But you have to focus and prioritize with organic chem, because she be crazy sometimes. Love you, you got this!

I’m currently in medschool and I just got rid of organic chem. Honestly y’all pharmacology students always inspire me. Y’all seem like super humans learning and remembering all that chem stuff. It’s just shocking tbh.

I got PTSD flashbacks when I heard that alarm at the beginning
For anyone who struggles to get up for school/work with alarm... Make the phrase that pops up with the alarm something super aligned with your best self. Like: "YOU ARE AMAZING" or "YOU LOVE SUNRISE" or "THE UNIVERSE/GOD IS EXCITED FOR YOU TODAY" etc. It helps. If the message is a demand, or something that only speaks to requiring work, discomfort from you, it's harder.

I like the quote "it's never too late to be who you could have been". I finished my undergrad degree in 2014 and went back to school beginning of 2020 (after working full time for 6 years) at age 27. I've still got a few years left of grad school, but then I'll be able to move to the UK and become a clinical psychologist. I'm still running my fashion business while studying and some days I don't know how I'll get through it. But seeing you motivated to learn is motivating me to go study for my upcoming exams now. We got this! ❤

I am so excited for you!!! I am 100% sure you will do great. Don’t panic. Doing well in uni is all about consistently plodding thru the confusion, and asking for help. 99% of people don’t ask profs for help or show interest/excitement.

When you were crying over chemistry, I felt that lol I had to take physics at uni and I STRUGGLED so bad. Can’t believe I passed it😂 but I failed another subject and had to wait a year to retake it, and then failed it again so I dropped out. 4 years of uni for nothing 🙃 when I think about it I get so freaking depressed 😫😫
Also, megan i love you and i took AP Psychology last year and remember my teacher telling us to take our notes in colors because the brain remembers colored text better! I love you !!!!

I'm better. So grateful that you asked :) I stopped taking that medication after 5 days for obvious reasons..it was just to strong for a young adult. Chanced my doctor too.. I can say that I can fight without any medication now. With better and not so pride days :)
To understand the enantiomers many teachers always compare them to our hands, like they are the same but if you put one on the other they are not gonna match becouse your thumb will be on your pinkie, so they are specular,I don't know if it makes sense or if this is useful idk. Anyway you got this girl ❤️💪

Just wanted to encourage you about doing a good job on the whole living thing alone, school and long distant relationship. Idk how you do it but your strong. I don’t know how you are living along without anyone really to talk to. And watching you upset and sad makes me sad too, even though we don’t know each other. I totally understand how you felt when you said that you felt like you had failed before you even started. I just started my masters program after taking two years off since undergrad. At the introductory day for the course, while the module leader was discussing the expectation they had of us and how the year was going to go I already felt like I was going to fail or I was in over my head. I questioned taking time off before going back to school because it was making me feel so far behind everyone else. Really remember how you felt this week. At the end of this year reflect back, you are going to be amazed at how far you have come and how silly your fear of failure was. Thats what I'm looking forward to, and the motivation to study hard for everything. To prove to myself in a years time that I did not make any wrong decisions, that everything happens just the way it's supposed to, and that I had nothing to be afraid of in the first few weeks. Good luck Megan, we can do this :)

Legit, I felt the stress as soon as your chem class started. i started having flashbacks. lol the first day of school is always the toughest but give it some time and soon you will get in the routine! First year of uni is spent in a confusing haze no matter how much you prepared or studied or how much you remember from highschool. I started my second year of medschool and I signed up to be a “guide” for the first years. I forgot how confused and scared and overwhelmed I felt the entire first year. It didn’t help that some people seemed so sure on them.
Funny thing, as I was talking about it with friends, they told me that they always thought I had it all togheter because I always studied and passed exams and just looked confident. That’s just me masking my insecurities lmao. So don’t worry, everyone is as much of a mess as you feel.!

O-chem in the states is typically a senior class in Uni. Honestly, pre-med student OFTEN talk about it. Do your best ask questions please please ask your professors if they have office hours I can’t tell you how many times office hours helped so much

Uni can be rough! But if you ever feel like you are not doing well just remember people were once in your shoes and are no longer there! Just keep at it! :D Also I love these vlogs, don't get me wrong I love sit down videos and planned videos. But vlogs are so much more personal it brings a much more closer connection to you! I think youtubers that vlog have a much closer connection to their subscribers because we see a different side of them. So please bring more :D
So great to see how your first week of school went! Learning new things can be overwhelming but you know you have what it takes as you did great - love your note-taking system. It’s been proven that hand writing notes does help you remember things! Living alone will teach you who you are and you eventually will learn to love your own company, as there are many of us who do live solo. You have funny Carl and Waffles, too, and grandparents not too far away. Keep treating yourself to great food and your treats at weeks end. Love your videos, music and watching you cook. Don’t forget, as Deepak Chopra says “Everything is as it should be.” ❤️

Also in case it helps, I found the free MIT open course classes in calculus and org chem super helpful as for some reason their profs explained concepts in a way that made more sense to me...

Hey you! Love the videos. I had fun in my twenties and slowly graduated with an Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree. I'm back in school for a year to meet minimum qualifications for a work promotion and l will be done this December! Through the tears and stress of projects, reading and exams... 6 figure job here I come!!

Go easy on yourself with uni, it is hard and I think doing the virtual classes you won't see that your classmates are finding it hard too so you can't encourage each other. I definitely came out of lectures where we would look at each other and be like 'wtf was that??!!' and mentally that made it a lot easier to get through. You're doing great! 😁

I'm 27 and I think about going back to grad school. I keep saying I'm gonna do it, but I've made no effort or moves thus far. I haven't been out of school as long as you have, but I do find it a bit difficult to get back into the grind, especially because I work full time. I do eventually hope to go back. I know it can be hard, but it'll get easier. Just keep plowing through it! ❤️

omg this alarm clock.. I have 2 roommates and they both are using this tone. So every morning I'm stuck with full hour of such tone because they keep hitting a snooze the whole time! :D
And since I got used to sleep less and less while growing up I now get up at 3AM, so I'm ready for the snoozing marathon too, haha.
I didn't want roommates but sadly the first years don't have such a luxury to have their own room.. 2nd week and I have enough already 😆

MEGAN SOME ADVICE - idk how the system is in England but in the US, unless ur trying to go to graduate school, ur grades/gpa in university don't matter. Employers don't really check ur transcript after graduation. So don't worry too much about grades. What really matters is ur experience/internships/building ur resume. I wish someone would have told this to me when i was in undergrad cuz i know how frustrating it can be! Good luck girl, I'm rooting for you. you got this!!!

(The rest is me typing as I am watching, so it may be a little run on!)
The first few weeks are super overwhelming. It's ok, it's normal.
However, just hang in there. If the classes aren't recorded, see if you can record them, even if it's just voice, so you can go back if you need to.
I can not emphasize enough how important it is to take good notes.
Terms/Vocab- scribble them down - you can go back and then look in your books for the definitions and look in the appendix to read a little more on what they mean and how they are used.
Processes - so you learn step by step how to do things and what they are applied to.
AND- join a study group for each class. If one doesn't exist, set one up!
Try to talk to your classmates - if you have questions, they likely do as well.
Go to the end of the chapters in your texts and see if there's a chapter summary. Those are great!
Look for vocab lists, theories. processes, etc.
Make sure your computer is backing up regularly. Shut it off each night and turn it on as soon as you wake up so that any updates can happen while you shower/eat breakfast.
YAY- you went to see a tutor! I knew that class would be a tough one and now your tutor has confirmed it.
And you are having your coffee and rewarding with the Reese's! Yassss!
BTW- I just bought those Reese's bars you eat! I have to try one tonight - I'm a huge Reese's fan and I've never had that kind before. It was hard to find!

I love these week in my life videos! I only recently discovered you (maybe a couple of weeks ago?) and have binge watched most of your videos since. I too started graduate school after taking a couple of years off and wanted to cry most days. It does get better though as things fall into place!
This video was so inspirational! I know how hard it can be, chemistry is a total pain. But it was so encouraging to see you push through your struggles and put in the effort to understand what you’re learning.
Im telling you, once you graduate and you look back on these vlogs and remember how hard you worked, it’ll be worth it to know that you put forth that effort to do what you love.

I was considering going to Veterinary College as a mature student, crappy thing is that you need at least 3 years of either internship or some other extensive animal hands-on type work just for them to consider your application for the interview process (it's the only Vet school in Ontario, so it's in super high demand which makes it nearly impossible to get in)...which, as a mature student would put me at almost retirement age by the time I graduate (lol jk I'm still in my 30s, but still). That isn't going to work out, so I looked into Vet tech...3 year waiting list for the course. WTF!? So now, I'm kinda on the fence. I don't think their's zoology anywhere here so I was considering "human zoology" -- becoming a Personal Support Worker or something like that in an extended care living facility (old age home). If I can't work with animals, working with people is a decent close second lol. But all of this was off-topic. Just had to get it off my chest because it's really disappointing.
What I was working up towards was that Oct 2nd WAS MY BIRTHDAY!! Got my haircut, had sushi and then the next day I dyed my hair lmao crazy or what?? We were doing the same stuff on the same day lol. I did mine blue though. Well, black blue. I don't have the box anymore so I forget the name of it but it's super dark blue to the point of being almost black. Did my beard too :) (well, facial hair...saying 'beard' without having a picture makes it sound like biker Santa beard status).
Anyways though, this 'comment' is incredibly long so I'll stop now. Also, to make things more fun, whenever I typed a bracket take a shot! (lol sorry about all of those...here's two more for irony sake)
