  • The Khazar Empire, a prominent political entity from the late 6th to the 10th century, was located in the region now spanning southeastern Europe, including parts of modern-day Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Established by a Turkic-speaking nomadic group, the Khazars became influential through their strategic control of key trade routes connecting the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic Caliphates.
At the height of their power, the Khazar rulers converted to Judaism in the 8th or 9th century, a unique occurrence among nomadic steppe cultures. This conversion is subject to much historical debate but is thought to have been motivated by political and diplomatic considerations, as it allowed the Khazars to maintain neutrality and balance in their relations with Christian Byzantium and the Muslim world.
The Khazar-Arab wars, spanning from the early 7th to the mid-8th century, were significant in shaping the empire's history. These conflicts were part of the broader Arab-Byzantine wars, with the Khazars often allying with the Byzantine Empire against the expanding Arab Caliphate. The wars were marked by several fierce battles, including the notable siege of Derbent and the Battle of Balanjar. The Khazars' resilience and strategic prowess enabled them to halt Arab advances into Eastern Europe, securing their dominance in the region for several centuries.
The decline of the Khazar Empire in the late 10th century was accelerated by internal strife, economic challenges, and external pressures from emerging powers such as the Rus' and the Pechenegs. During this period, the Seljuks, originally part of the Khazar military forces, began to rise in prominence. They eventually migrated into the Middle East, where they founded the Seljuk Empire, which played a crucial role in the region's history....

the khazarian empire is the first and only empire of the ashkenazi jews (thats if you don't consider their current economic dominance as a type of empire). The historical jews from the bible were a different people, and they were called hebrews (after Heber, the leader of their people after the languages were split in the peoples at the tower of babel, hence those who spoke Heber's languages were called Hebrews), not jews, they were largely if not entirely wiped out due to various genocides and racemixing, the modern ashkenazi likely have some hebrew blood but not much (same with the sephardi and other "jewish" races). The term "jew" comes from the tribe of Israel "Judah" whose people were called "Judaeans", through various degrees of transliteration we have the word "jew".
The modern (ashkenazi) jews however are only partially related, they are mostly ashkenazi and the little jew they do have in them is mostly edomitish, not jewish. This is because Maccabees conquered the Edomites and actually allowed them to join the country for the reason that Esau (the progenitor of the Edomites) was the brother of Jacob (progenitor of the Israelites, he was renamed as Israel), as such the Edomites who mixed with the Jews were called Idumeans, this is because they neighboured the Judaeans, so the combibnation of edomites and Judaeans was Idumaeans, the idumeans lived in Edom, not Judaea. Fun fact, of all of Jesus's disciples only 1 was an idumean, judas iscariot, and "king" herod of israel was not generally accepted by most jews as a real king as a real king has to be a judaean and of the line of David, but herod was an idumaean, not a judaean, also the pharisees were mostly of idumaean stock and it was largely an idumaean movement. After the fall of Jerusalem the Idumaeans headed north and intermingled with the Turks and later with the Ashkenazi, this is when the Ashkenazi converted to "judaism" (really just a roleplay of judaism, its not the same thing).
In fact the Ashkenazi are extremely distantly related to the jews, their progenitor, Ashkenaz, is mentioned in the bible as the son of Gomer, who is the son of Japheth, who is the son of Noah, however the Hebrews decend from Noah's other son Shem, not Japheth (Shem is also where the term semite comes from, all semites are descended from Shem), so technically speaking Ashkenazi are not semites.
